<smacks forehead> I missed his CSS only popup example.
I do agree with his "cargo cult" critique of using numbers as teeny click targets. It's why I tried to use something a bit easier, just "more" inline in the text.
Also accept your critique that this needs to be click not hover.
It's clearly dependent on the need, as he points out at the very beginning, parentheses work pretty well! (for short text)

What does "the system doesn't need them" even mean? Does he really think that normal text search is the same? That completely misunderstands how/why hashtags are used.

You know the phrase I've heard more in the #Fediverse than ANYWHERE else?
"just my 2 cents"
I think this sums up the culture here pretty well. People just LOVE to tell you how you've got it wrong. This ESPECIALLY applies to posts that aren't even TRYING to be opinionated. There is just this vocal contingent (sometimes german? *always* male) that is hell bent on making sure there isn't "Someone wrong on the internet"
See if you can help yourself and not critique ;-) I certainly don't want it

looking forward to your new editor. I use Wordpress on my blog and the default editor just.... don't get me started. I compose elsewhere and just copy/paste in.

Your opinion on my post shouldn't matter. If the original poster wants to have a smaller reply surface, that's their choice. Sure, they may not meet new people but they also will get a shit ton less harassment/noise (which you most likely don't have)
The fediverse should be about control and safety and if someone wants it, that's entirely their call.

Strongly agree. I assume you're referring to the recent proposal to flag posts on Mastodon with various limits on who can reply?
