Yes. I was deep into Ballard fandom when I lived a couple of streets away from the mailing address for Ambit.
I never did go bang on the door, because that would have been weird.
I can't remember where/when I found a copy of Hospital Ship. Perhaps the no longer extant Endeavour Books in Whitby, which always had a wall of english SF.
I would always buy a handful of p/bs and leave them in the holiday lets among the Clarksons and Binchys.

It's actually pretty easy. Assuming you even see applications from women, the chances are they'll be better than dudes.
If some oik is being a sexist twat, call them on it. Standing there and going 'Mate. Really? Is it 1975 or what?' is good actually.
Someone gets talked over in a meeting?
'Mate, I don't think (blah) had finished?'
Keep doing that. Keep doing the work. Do not expect cookies.
Do expect a significantly more pleasant workplace.

Choice of writing instrument really does affect yr handwriting doesn't it.
