Inspired by @npub1wmr…g240 idea, #Nostr relay implementation #Nosflare has been updated to v4.22.25 with NIP-05 validation! In order to publish an event, a valid Nostr address must be stored for the pubkey's latest kind 0 event. If none is found on the Nosflare-powered relay itself, it'll fallback to an external relay (nostr.band) to check. There's also option to allow or block specific domains. Test it out now using wss://relay.nosflare.com

"Say a sat a post/reply or something"... It's technically possible 😏 But also not possible until all clients show messages received from relays. For now, what I've implemented in Nosflare is it hashes every note sent to it. And this can be fine-tuned down to the hash of a single word. So, for example, as I've done with the wss://relay.nosflare.com relay it only allows the same thing once. If someone else writes a note that just says "GM" they'll be the only ones who can publish a note with just "GM" that day. But as this is configurable, it can help at least stop spam that blasts the same thing over and over again. Of course, it can be evaded should they iterate those notes incrementally with something that makes the content unique each time. In my mind, it's the best compromise for now, that doesn't rely on WoT, and won't effectively excommunicate interactions from new peeps on Nostr.

Ok #Nostr I'm launching something absolutely mental...
A first come, first serve, 24hrs-only events #relay. Example: if you're the first to say GM, you'll be the only one able to publish GM to the relay that day. And then it's reset. Add it to your clients now:

It's running the hardened version of #Nosflare and with an R2 bucket object lifecycle of 24hrs.

I have not yet implemented a WoT approach as I I feel that's best left for a friends/family relay and not a public one. But I'll eventually add support for WoT for those who want to use it. However, for now, I feel like this hash based filter will suffice to stop spam.

This #nostr relay project from a few months ago has gone with little notice, but I think it's still a dope relay implementation. It's the reverse version of Blastr. You can't publish notes to it. But it REQs from as many listed online relays as possible using the nostr.watch API.
You can use it with wss://unostr.site

#Nostr I think I'll be tinkering around with some more strict rate limiting measures in #Nosflare relay that stores the hash of the content of each note's json. In a similar way I have it check for duplicates already on #Anonostr but this would apply relay wide.
This way bursts of spam notes that repeat the same thing, regardless if disposable npubs are used, can be stopped quickly at the relay level. And it would be quick to adapt if the spammer adapts. Of course, will have a filtering logic available for any single word or phrases you'd want still allowed. But might be useful to block X thing once repeated Y times within a given time frame.
I'm fully aware that a spammer could iterate through each note with completely unique content to bypass. And that's why I'm thinking the next best feature might be to have a minimum created_at requirement to publish to the relay. When an EVENT message is received it goes into a queue and the author's pubkey is checked against another relay for its oldest created_at event. If it is less than X time old, it gets dropped.
Could be something relay implementations collab on to help the community. Some standard that let's relays share this data and make it easily REQable. Thoughts? #AskNostr

Ah yup, that's something that's unfortunately unavoidable. Depends mostly on the client. I see the notes and replies on Primal. But I don't on Damus or noStrudel. And definitely not on Nostur due to WoT. Not sure if Damus or noStrudel are doing some filtering logic they haven't disclosed (maybe only showing things from users who have a stored kind 0 profile data somewhere?). I'll dig into that and see if I can find out why. But either way, the best visibility would be to add in hashtags where you know people would see those notes. 🤙
