Dear Acme Acres Community,
This week on the ranch was one long reminder of why we do things the hard way.
It would be easier to cut corners. Use what’s legal. Push animals faster. Rely on one processor and hope nothing breaks. Plenty of folks do.
That’s never been the point here.
We don’t use vaccines, GMOs, hormones or antibiotics because the way we raise animals doesn’t require them. Our cattle, pigs, sheep, and chickens live outside, on grass, with room to move and low stress.
Healthy conditions create healthy animals. It really is that simple.
A lot of folks ask what happens when processors shut down or get backed up. You’ve seen it in the news. Plants close. Timelines explode. Food gets harder to find.
We don’t wait around.
Right now we work with multiple processors across Idaho and Washington. It means more miles, more coordination, and more hustle. But it also means we keep delivering when others can’t.
That mindset carries into everything we do.
It’s why whole beef orders come with a freezer. Space is usually the real obstacle, not price. I still buy freezers at wholesale, so I use that to remove friction. If you don’t need it, we take it off the price. Simple.
It’s also why we accept Bitcoin, gold, silver, and trades. Food is foundational. People have different ways of storing value. We’re happy to meet you where you are.
On the food side, we’ve had more positive feedback lately than ever — especially on the beef. Finishing on grass through Idaho winters isn’t fast or cheap. Some months we gain. Some months we hold.
We don’t rush it.
Our Longhorn–Charolais crosses are doing exactly what we hoped: hardy, efficient on grass, and producing beef people keep calling us back about.
We’re also keeping sausage bundles available, fresh pork sausage — clean, simple, and made from animals raised the same way as everything else here. If you want something specific, ask. If it makes sense, we’ll figure it out.
One thing worth saying out loud: buying bulk meat takes planning. This isn’t grocery-store logistics. If you’re halfway through your freezer, it’s probably time to think about the next order.
Good food takes time.

Good morning again nostr fam. Let’s try this again. My first post was not accurate about the fires. Fires not contained and the smoke was hidden by the cloud cover and lack of sunlight. Please accept my apologies for that. I am learning. Please keep our area and neighbors in your thoughts. It appears this is going to be a tough one.
We are thankful for the cooler temps and rain moving in, hopefully it will help with these raging fires. We are praying for those affected by all the fires in our area, it’s too close to home.

Good corner posts, live trees work well, 5 wires and if possible a hot wire too. Gates are important, make sure wide enough to accommodate your equipment. Also a holding pen Shute area too.

Well up here it’s mostly corner support posts and wire. Cattle really don’t know how big they are. Now some figure it out and that’s never good. I walk my fence line almost everyday because they always figure out a way to break something.
I find that lots of food and water keeps them happy and not looking to explore 😂.

Thought I’d make an introduction of one of our steers. This is Lorenzo and he’s a bottle calf or he’s actually going to end up a 1200lb dog with horns. We brought him home a stormy winter night after his mama just didn’t know what to do. Not sure my wife is going to ok sending him to freezer camp.

North Idaho ranching is a little different than other places. If your pasture isn’t irrigated it’s about done by mid July. That picture was from October of last year. The rest of the year it’s under snow. Haying is a big big deal around here.
