I appreciate @npub12y3…05cn @npub19f6…n48s, @npub145e…kjzl and ESPECIALLY @npub1fmx…wp74 for rushing in to fill the chasm left by the devastating death of JCD. I've been a listener, then a producer, then an active participant in this amazing community for too long to just let it float away. I'm prepared to welcome the evolution.
Also... Should any of you ever require or desire a woman's perspective, there are a few Dames who would love to contribute. ;) Cheers and Smooches!

I feel like allopathic medicine has its lane... if I shatter a bone, I want surgeons and such. But for microbial disruptions... well, let's just say I'm doing my part to keep herbalism alive!

My husband is subjecting me to a video compilation of porch pirates acting all offended and traumatized when they get a booby-trapped package. I'm sure some are fake, but I'm exactly as sure some are real, and that is disturbing.

Every person's body is different, so take with a grain of salt, but my body is less demon-possessed with some carbs than with others. Pure sugars, not so bad. Starches are WAY more addictive. Oats and corn are the least problematic. Then potatoes, with waxy potatoes being less demonic than mealy potatoes. Rice is really addictive, but brown less than white. And wheat? Might as well put a Wonder Bread wrapper on my tombstone. Assuming I can fit in a casket.

I sure get that! I try to approximate the taco flavor by turning them "inside out" with a lettuce wrap... but it's never the same.
Keto comes with a lot of compromises. I stick to it, because I have learned that with carbs I am like an alcoholic and can't be satisfied with a reasonable serving. It kicks off insane cravings! Best to just avoid that.
It seems like you can have taco or two without feeling the carb demon, and I tip my sombrero to you!

I haven't gotten to the white-hair stage yet, but they can't hear that on the phone. I'm actually pretty happy with the way my hair is changing as I get older. This is yesterday:

Cleanfeed users,
(Everybody else, PLZ boost for visibility! xo)
2 questions:
1) a noticeable gap has recently appeared before each clip, when I hit the button, even if the front of said clip is trimmed to a hair's width. What happened, and how do I fix it?
2) HOW does Adam do those instant replays? Like when the stream gets wonky and Adam just says, "ok take it from here" and replays to that exact point in the conversation. Is he just a wizard? Or is there a special secret?

I don't know if this means anything, but I feel I should mention it:
I contacted Alby support a couple of days ago to get instructions directly from them. They answered very quickly. Within an hour. I followed the instructions PRECISELY and kept hitting a wall regarding a recovery path. So I emailed again, thus:
"Please send me the correct Windows desktop installer (.exe) for the version that supports seed recovery."
Crickets for 24 hrs.
Does Alby not want me to recover my stuff?

Thank you for sticking with me as long as you did. I apologize again for how frustrated I was at the start. None of that was directed at you personally. I’ve just hit so many roadblocks — loops, missing screens, files that won’t open, recovery steps I can’t reach. I know developers don’t always see what end users go through, but you’re the only one who even replied, so I’m grateful.

I'm obviously no tech wizard, but I’m also not trying to summon lightning. (Just the NODE!) I’m just trying to find ONE screen that looks like the guide says it should. Instead, everything shape-shifts the moment I look at it. It’s like my computer is auditioning for experimental theater. I’ll get this sorted eventually, but goodness, this journey has... personality.
Thank you for your attention to this rant.

I’ve spent WEEKS trying to get into the Alby Hub wallet I made in July. Every tutorial shows magical buttons that refuse to appear for me. Pages loop, menus vanish, features teleport. I’m starting to wonder if my setup was built on a dare. Adam was right — it’s a miracle any of this functions. At this point I’m running on sheer determination and caffeine.

I don't see those sats in any of the other wallets, and I don't know which one transferred. It just did the transfer without identifying the wallet. All the wallets in the extension now show the same amount. 6637. (Which should make me happy because it's a prime number, but I still want to recover the account in full.)

@bumi I am unable to achieve the first requirement. When I tried to pay through my Alby wallet, I am thwarted. And the Alby wallet also seems to be somewhat diminished from the last time I tried this.
I want to fund opening a channel with my already existing Alby wallet. Alby Hub won't integrate those requirements.
All of the steps you recommend are GRAYED OUT until I ensure this wallet is ONLINE and CONNECTED.
Plz tell me HOW to do that?!

2025-11-12 21:14:18 UTC

- reply

LND node is installed through Umbrel. (And uninstalled and reinstalled.) It still doesn't show any numbers.
Alby Hub is set up on Umbrel with nothing in the wallet.
Alby extension shows 114,480 sats.
I can't make those two connect.

2025-11-04 18:44:59 UTC

- reply

"The 400 error ("Wallet configuration error... Request failed with status code 400") boils down to Alby Hub failing to authenticate or communicate with your underlying Lightning node (LND). Alby Hub relies on LND for all wallet operations (like generating invoices for channel opens or linking extensions), but something in the config or connection layer breaks, turning it into a loop where the app can't "unlock" or query the wallet properly."

Do you mean the kind of dualism that exists within each of us... the good wolf/bad wolf scenario? Because I'm okay with that. I don't mind the serpent/devil character as a repository for the evil of man, or the hero archetype as the upward path.
It definitely gets screwed up though, when it descends into tribalism. The Ishmael/Isaac conundrum, for instance, that continues to plague the ME even today. That's bull-scat.

No, it doesn't. I'm not a Big Banger. It's quite rude of you to assume I am. I will say though, that there's more evidence to support that model than there is to support biblical creationism.
Not that you asked, or that it's your business, but since you obviously need to be corrected, I will oblige. I do not KNOW the origin story of the universe. I never will, because I wasn't there. Nobody knows. Anyone who claims to know is lying, deluded or both.

I can accept the core of the bible in a Jordan Peterson kind of frame. I can accept the psychology of the authors, and the power of metaphor. Damnation falls neatly into that structure. As he points out repeatedly, "Hell is real enough." I'm a bit old for Santa Clause-type fantasies, however.
"...people from your faith..." That's a little presumptuous. You don't know me, my faith, or lack thereof, yet still have no problem telling me what I believe. 🙄

I don't have to look far to see culture disconnected from ethnicity. I know children adopted in infancy who exemplify nurture's triumph over nature.
I can't get on board with religion being thrown in the mix, either. The Christians I grew up around actually believe in virgin birth, resurrection, and other ridiculousness. I think I can align with Christian values without literally believing things that are physically impossible. What's wrong with that?

I'm convinced Lisa Murkowski is a compromised nepo-baby. She got elected in a write-in that was a result of her not making the deadline to submit her candidacy, but SOMEHOW still managed to get elected... SOMEHOW... maybe because her father sat in that senatorial seat for 20 years and was then governor of Alaska? She does NOT represent Alaskans. I don't even think she was fairly elected. SHE is a dictatorial figure. No wonder she defends Zelenskyy, who doesn't even bother to hold elections.

Thank you. I've had 3 years to process it all, and I think I'm doing okay. I started podcasting as my self-medication for therapy, so that's a win, I guess. Better than some other forms of self-medication anyway.
But my point was that I'm in a unique position to understand why people feel bad for the doggo. Even in a horrific scenario, there's still room in your heart for the innocent dog.

1) Thank you for your compassion. It's one of the nicer things about the left, when it doesn't go off the rails to the point of pathology.
2)Adoption is sweet and all, but it doesn't fill the deep biological need for one's actual genetics to carry on after one dies. For men, if assured paternity wasn't an issue, marriage would not exist as an institution. It's a fundamental drive. We WANT our own babies, grandies, and so forth.
3) next post...

You nailed it. You advocate for "Socially nicer but also more laid back". That's where I feel like the left has lost its dang mind. You cannot be nice and laid back when that means losing the hope of grandchildren to people who cannot figure out that sex is biology, and that it is the duty of every generation to produce and raise the next one; when these "socially nice and laid back" people challenge and disrupt something as basic as SEX. It's YOUR FAULT and I don't feel nice. 🔥 😡

Why do you listen to No Agenda?

2025-02-17 19:48:57 UTC

I'm getting feedback from a couple of people who suggest including video in my podcast projects. What is it about video podcasts that make them more appealing to some people than audio-only? I really LIKE the old radio format. You can listen while you drive or do chores. If you have to direct all of your attention at a screen in order to make sense of the presentation, that's often a deal-breaker for me as a media consumer. What's behind the preference for video?

2025-02-10 18:50:41 UTC

Hey Fam... I want an AI music generator for Windows that I can try for free without signing a contract with Satan.
This is a last-ditch attempt at a solution (albeit a very crappy and regrettable one) for music (or something similar) on Grumpy Old Dames.

I'm not sure yet, but I may have been Trap-Dogged. By a dang Pomeranian. Meet Finley. He was apparently being abused, and brought to me by his rescuer, who said, "Just a couple of days..." Well, she's known to renege. And I knew her when I accepted the mission. I suspect trap-dog.
So you may as well meet Finley. He's a Pomeranian who thinks he's a malamute.

Western stupidity? When I'm in the global south, people throw their trash everywhere and just live in filth. They don't flush their poopy toilet paper, even in places where the plumbing is adequate to the task. They wear a gallon of cologne and insist on crowding into elevators or in public spaces, FORCING people to endure their stench. They're inconsiderate with their loud music. They drive aggressively/dangerously. I prefer western stupidity to the global south version.

So, Donald Trump, an ultra-wealthy man, keeps begging for money. This is as insane as Israel begging for money. You're rich Jew bankers! Spend your own money!
I can't really internalize the concept that the politician who raises the most campaign funds usually wins. Does anyone really think sign and stickers and even rallies and commercials will change anyone's mind? Or is it more a litmus test to see who has the most support?

It's not difficult. Put the words "herbal abortifacient" into a search engine. It's a good idea to do it as soon as you think you might have erred. You can buy this stuff by the pound from Amazon and keep it in your cupboard if you are prone to promiscuity. Surgical abortions are all about making money for the surgeons. Withholding information just makes more money for the physicians.

2024-09-19 03:36:21 UTC

- reply

I agree! Casual sex is destructive. It took a long time and a lot of real pain to figure that out.
I just don't think abortion should be an issue. A TEENSY bit of REAL education would make it a non-issue. We don't have to have babies we don't want, and it not difficult or expensive and it doesn't require crossing state lines.
IGNORANCE led us here. Both of the benefits of morality, and the relative ease of early abortion.

2024-09-19 03:20:15 UTC

If you really feel that abortion should be decided by mothers or potential mothers, why are you speaking of it? I don't mean to assume your gender, but ya look like a dude to me.
We don't really need anyone's permission. We have our women's ways. You can have a seat in the corner, Sir. We'll call you when we need you for manly things, like protecting and providing, if you're still manly enough to do that.

Yeah, I get it. I was just all triggered because we often encounter certain assumptions when he's always driving a high-end classic that looks like it came off the showroom floor.
Case in point: Sir restored a stately Mercedez Benz and when he drove it to church, they asked him to be on the building committee. 🙄

My husband is a mechanical engineer by trade, but he loves tinkering on cars. He's restored a BMW, a Jaguar, a Farrari, a Rolls Royce, and a crap-ton of big American trucks and muscle cars. That's what I know off the top of my head. It's not entitlement when you earn it. But, somehow, that's still the prevailing opinion among those who have not earned it. 🙄

Yeah, probably because I meant shouldn't VOLUNTARY caloric restriction, i.e. fasting on purpose, produce the same response? I mean, is there a difference, physiologically, between involuntary fasting, which we call starving, and voluntary fasting, which could be considered dieting? At least in this respect? It seems caloric restriction is good for longevity, no matter how it's achieved. Until you go too far, Solzhenitsyn style?

2024-09-06 18:14:59 UTC

Another observation:
"The study also found that the progeny of the starved worms had a longer life span than the progeny of the controls. "
This has also been demonstrated in rats. Shouldn't involuntary caloric restriction produce the same effect?

Except for rare moments of an “empty” mind, during every waking minute we are processing our experiences in relation to our values and instincts. Reason is how we mentally engage with the wider world. Sam and Vox dig into this rich topic.

Good points. I'm pretty resilient that way, actually. I can initiate conversations easily and don't get butt hurt if someone doesn't want to talk. That's not why I don't really go out.
My husband is a field service engineer, and we travel to his field at least half the year. We aren't home. I'm in hotels and on freeways and in restaurants all the time out of necessity. So when I'm home, I'm HOME. Peopled out. But still disconnected.

True. I'm a terrible homebody. I built a home gym so if never have to leave for exercise. But this little street has people walking dogs and such all the time. I COULD force myself to go for walks in lieu of trying to find a whole community in one building. That's probably a better answer.

So what do you do connect with your local community? I mean, the podcasting community is great, but I'm disconnected from my NEIGHBORS. And I travel at least half the year, so volunteering or joining an arts council type thing doesn't work.
I need to meet my dang neighbors.

Prayer is a messy business. Unless it's scripted for the purpose of reflecting on the script, as in the Lord's Prayer. I no more want to hear another person's prayer than I want to see him or her in any other deeply personal endeavor. And I certainly don't want to been seen in such a vulnerable position.
Public prayer is fake and not the real struggle with God of which prayer honestly consists. It's a stage performance. It disgusts me, I'd rather see someone jack off, and that's ick.

I just realized something HUGE.
I thought I wanted to try to find a church, if it wasn't too dogmatic, for the purpose of establishing community connections. There's one not far from the house, and they podcast their sermons. So I listened, to ascertain whether or not this might be a good fit. That's the setting.
First thing the pastor does is pray. In public. To me, you might as well be masturbating in public. It's PERSONAL. It grosses me out. I'll never have a church.

For younger generations, that may well be true. I don't understand kids these days. I think it's less common in women of middle age or seniors.

If it sounded like an indirect insult to men, it was because it was in response to a direct insult to women. The guy who blocked me was basically saying women just use the state to coerce men into supporting them financially. He was pretty much calling us all manipulative, scheming sluts with no genuine love for our husbands. A guy who walks around with that attitude isn't likely to find a woman worth loving, physically or otherwise. But, yeah, I got my knickers in a bunch.

We are more than simply biology.

I ordered a bra on Amazon. (Don't judge. I live in Alaska and I hate clothes shopping.) The tag on it said "This is not a bra." Well wtf is it then? A hat? A truck? A chihuahua? Because I ordered a bra.
It actually turns out to be a good bra, and I ordered 5 more, but that is a terrible marketing decision. Or maybe everyone really is trying to rip out the structure of reality by stating that a thing is not what it is.
Nefarious bra...🙄

I'm an only child, so I'm the only one who lost her mom. My children support me, but they didn't know her the same way. I started reaching out to more distant family, though. Met some wonderful people. Silver linings. Always silver linings, if you want to see them.

For the moment setting aside the oxymoron "random laws", I'm doing my best to be okay. It's been 2 years, 8 months, and 16 days since I got the call, and they haven't found the murderer. By now, I suspect they never will. I'm as okay as I'm gonna get, I guess. Counting blessings. Podcasting for a better place to focus. It's really the best I can manage.

Ouch. Ya hit a nerve with that one. My mom did get murdered, and I did start a podcast. I stayed far away from the topic of murder, because that's what I was trying to divert my attention from, but it's been my therapy. That meme still punches me in the gut, tho.

OK, when I said "I don't stim. I married up", it meant that I don't get any sort of government stimulus. At all. And when they send it to me without my request or even my approval, I always give that to others. Always. I don't need it. I married a good provider.

"INdependence Day"?
I'm looking for docs to PAY TAXES? Does that sound like independence to you?
That's the irony.

I don't stim. I married up. BUT... In an ironic twist, I ended up spending the afternoon searching for documents for the tax preparer.

I actually bought one for my daughter the last time I had all my kids together 3 years ago.
The camera was bad enough, but the film for it was outrageous. I knew it was a one-time-only toy for the party. Don't think I'll do it again, though.

Well I certainly and sincerely apologize. I didn't mean for it to come off that way. It's just that your trust in humans to "adult" consistently and reliably is something I generally hear from much younger people. I'm reading increasing animosity in your posts that I don't understand. I'm just having a discussion here.

Y'all have a LOT more trust in the "milk of human kindness" than I do. Maybe I'm old enough to be your mom, I dunno, but I've been around long enough to know that people are not naturally as selfless and generous as would be needed for anarchy to exist at all, even briefly. And it would quickly become a tribe/gang dominated kind of government. Sort of a Mad Max landscape.

Oh I understand the concept. I just don't think it's necessarily relevant. There's no way to make people want the same thing, and what they want is often at odds with others, i.e. I want the last piece of chicken and so does everyone else at the table.

That's precisely my point. Governments AREN'T going anywhere, because humans are, in a HUGE circle back to the OP, too retarded to effectively govern themselves. It's never happened in human history beyond small tribes where everyone knows everyone else.
And I'm not saying solve every problem. That's strawmanning. I'm saying your proposal is unrealistic to implement because humans are not fit for it.

This assumes that just because you and your friends don't form governments with militaries that the group over the ridge won't. Groups will ALWAYS form, leaders will ALWAYS emerge, and there will ALWAYS be conflict.
What you are suggesting will turn into "might makes right". And, eventually, people form tribes/gangs who will do/take whatever they desire because what are you gonna do about it?

Well, the most obvious problem you fail to see is how to you propose to field a military, and compel everyone who "uses" it to pay up? Without threat of violence, don't you think there will be free riders? Alternatively, you can forgo a military, and be annexed by a neighbor who has one. Assuming you have anything worth annexing.
Crime will still happen, so do we all need private security? What if you can't afford it? What if you have a fire but can't afford...
