great questions! correct, the wallet has to rely on a majority of peers to defend their funds. but this is expected because they personally benefit from slashing the dishonest party's collateral.
we can't use blind signatures directly because they're not transferable across mints and would be orphaned when an operator exits. however we can easily move back and forth between this system and ecash mints, or use other privacy techniques. also note that there is no direct network connection between the wallet and the operator, which is a problem with cashu

i ended up here because i was working on a bitcoin acceptance hack, and i basically reinvented nwc. someone familiar asked "why not nwc?" i didn't even know what nostr was, but in implementing it in my project i saw the beauty of what was already out there - an entire ecosystem controlled by nothing more than keys. the same type of key that can control money. the implications for sovereignty are profound, and even to this day, largely unappreciated. but every app built on this foundation necessarily provides individual control because there is no other path. yes, apps like primal can be centralized, but there is a clear and obvious boundary at your nsec. without it, you are not in control. with it, you are. lose it, and you've lost your identity. this simplicity reveals what's real and what's not, and in a world of hidden complexity, simplicity is inherently valuable.

Honestly, I'm not sure how anyone makes it past this sentence. If I'm going to trust them to delete keys, why not just go custodial?
A tree of "unilateral exits"
They have a lot of complicated key rewriting making it difficult to understand, but any scheme of this nature needs to prove it isn't vulnerable to an early transaction forcing a whole subtree on-chain to defend funds. Your 15,000₿ wallet isn't worth anything if someone waits for a high fee environment and it takes 10,000₿ to defend, plus another UTXO to get back in.
But I've been hacking on something that I think is better, so there's some conflict of interest here
