Quad9 has new DNS over HTTPS and DNS over TLS .mobileconfig profiles for iOS/MacOS for January 2026 <-> January 2027.
The previous profile expires today, January 20th.
The new .mobileconfig files now support MacOS >=26.1, which did not work with the previous (2025 -> 2026) files due to a breaking change introduced in MacOS 26.1.

In last 24-36 hrs we've seen high volume of queries to the domain perferctdmng[.]is that is attributed to the #Mirai Botnet.
Poland, the Netherlands, and Germany are among the top countries that queries are originating. The domain was submitted to us by our #threatintel partners #Ticura and #ThreatConnect.

For those tracking...a new summons against quad9 (alone) on behalf of [@CANALPLUS_SPORT](https://sportsbots.xyz/users/CANALPLUS_SPORT ) to appear before the Paris Court of First Instance on September 30th, 2025, including the usual claims based on Article L.333-10 of the French Sport Code concerning the blocking of 16 websites illegally broadcasting matches of the new season of TOP14 until June 27, 2026. 🙄

We have open-sourced our visualization tool for mapping realtime events onto a view of the Earth.
The WebGL tool takes websocket data or static JSON with geographic information and allows a variety of views and analysis to be performed on the data that is projected on the map.

We see that #LetsEncrypt is now experimentally issuing IPv4 and IPv6 certs! (https://letsencrypt.org/2025/07/01/issuing-our-first-ip-address-certificate/).
This is fantastic news for people who want to set up their own #DOH or #DOT servers that support automatic encryption upgrade (DDR - https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc9462/).
We look forward to this being put into production. We wish the expiry time was a bit longer - maybe a new profile with 30 day validity? But in any case - great to see this happening. 👏

2/2-The outage duration varied, but some sites were sporadically or entirely unavailable during between 12:50-13:45 UTC. Most Quad9 locations were not in the set, but notable cities that were in the change group: Bogota, Frankfurt, Turin, Miami, Athens. This issue created delays or missed query responses for ~ 12% of our user community. We apologize for the outage to those users who saw problems, and we have identified and resolved the root issue so this is not a repeated failure condition.

1/2 - Quad9 experienced a significant outage in some points of presence today while replacing/updating core software components in our resolver stack. We repeatedly performed this update on smaller portions of our network without experiencing any problems, as part of a normal incrementing change cycle. However, when we moved to this larger group of systems there were issues with automatic health checks which caused withdrawals of service in some locations.
