My understanding is that the host-read spots are worth a LOT more to sponsors than pre-recorded commercials from others. On the Media just did a podcast talking about how they're adding those kinds of spots specifically because of the economic benefit.
I find that the skip-30 button usually is enough for me to get past ads without getting too annoyed these days.

Jesus fuck, all of this! The further you move away from KYC and custodial wallets, the further you get from good UX. Which makes sense (more money to throw at UX in those places), but is still a huge problem.

Have you seen how Stacker News (also Lightning-signed, social media with zaps, but more forum/discussion based) handles things? They offer muting, but they also have an algorithm that rewards zapping with a trust score between people.
(That said, in the month I've been there, I think I've only seen 3-5 regular users who have female names and/or avatars.)
