Its better to make it from plants, if the economics around it aren't predatory.
From plants, its carbon neutral - I don't think we're at a problem point with carbon dioxide, but it will surely come eventually. Plants get their carbon from the air, so if you burn a plant as fuel and it goes into the air, the net effect is nothing.
But the economics around it matter a lot. I mean, who grows it, or is allowed to grow it, and what their inputs are. Fertilizer based agriculture is the thing destroying the planet. It has to stop. Petrol is not the main problem, not even close.

I did realize it 🎯. Its actually part of why I've started studying biology.
Yeah, there's good reasons to believe the so-called fossil fuels are abiogenic. Titan is one - the biggest gas station in the solar system is just waiting for us.
We're gonna get those small reactors. Idk if people will want them in cars, but houses for sure. The future comes when 3d printers that use metal are cheap and widespread. We'll print whole cars, too.

Probably, at least a little. But its probably coming from US corn. Our gasoline has I think 10% biofuel but its made from corn, and making the corn is entirely dependent on fossil fuels. I've seen claims that its actually increasing our use of fossil fuels, though I can't say for sure if that's right. One thing I know for sure is that agricultural exports are the main thing in our diplomacy, so if your country is an ally, its guaranteed that you're bring forced to buy our agricultural exports, which is mostly GMO corn and soy.

Gasoline can be made from non-dinojuice sources. You can make it from plants - hemp is supposedly quite good for this. There's also GMO algae that excrete gasoline.

There's multiple kinds of complexity. Mechanically, an ICE is more complex. But materially, its arguably less complex, since it doesn't rely on rare earths or lithium, and the knowledge base for construction and maintenance of ICE is already established.
There's another important thing to consider - the energy density of the fuel or battery. Petrol is nothing short of miraculous. We can literally poor energy into a tank. We can transport it with zero energy loss, over any distance and any time. Conversely, any use of batteries faces massive losses in efficiency due to conversion losses.

Hmm. Well, bad test. I switched the Tor setting to full privacy and now it's much fewer relays in the list when I tap the bottom thingy. Now I think its all only the relays I manually input, and maybe half are timing out. One always has and I just haven't gotten around to deleting it. Two were working fine two days ago but stopped yesterday. Could be a weekend thing.

🤔 every book I've ever read is the best book I've ever read. If it wasn't, I'd put it down.
My last best book ever was The Perennial Philosophy. My current best book ever is Biology 11th ed. from McGraw Hill.
I have a couple new books coming that I'm really excited about, about how to merge genetic engineering with materials science. They should've arrived yesterday. Not sure mail will come on a Sunday, but I'll be checking.

🤔 thinking about Iran... I was wondering about religious freedom there, so did a search and found that there are Christian churches and cathedrals there. Here's the cathedrals :
- Vank Cathedral (Armenian Apostolic) in Isfahan’s New Julfa.
- St. Sarkis Cathedral (Armenian Apostolic) in Tehran.
- Cathedral of the Consolata (Catholic, Latin rite) in Tehran.
Unfortunately, they don't let new churches be built, and its illegal to try to convert a Muslim. IMO that's really disrespectful to Muslims. They aren't stupid, so don't treat them like children.
But compare Iran with Saudi Arabia... No churches. Not a single one. They're basically ISIS that settled into borders. Nothing but murderers.
There's something wrong with this situation. Strategically, sure, it makes sense to ally all the weaker countries to gang up on the big country. But maybe we should have some fucking standards first. I think we should require a country to meet our standards on human rights before allying or cooperating in any way. Iran, F'd up as it is, is actually closer to a reasonable standard than Saudi is, and probably Israel too.

Its buried. One of the days I've been genuinely angry (I try not to be) was when I visited the Shanghai Museum (I think its just called that) and found soooo much history omitted. It had a huge section presenting a timeline from the British to ww2, and it basically lied about all of it. No mention of the Boxer Rebellion and how that caused the British to take action, nor how the empress invited them initially to help but then turned on them to appease the Boxers, which was the catalyst for them burning the winter palace - the Winter Palace was basically like Versailles in the sense that the monarch spent so much on it that it impoverished people and caused the rebellion. Then they omitted the alliance between the Republic of China, which in the time of ww2 was all of China, and the US, and how the Republic forces fought the Japanese while the communist forces his and then backstabbed the Republic after it was weakened from the battle of Nanjing. Then also not a single mention of Doolittle's Raiders, who crashed in China and were helped by Chinese people.
I love history. I also really like China. That museum pissed me off. Fucking liars.

Every time I see numbers like these, they are lower. China, for example, killed over 70 million by starvation caused by it's Great Leap Forward, and that doesn't include the millions killed in the broader Cultural Revolution, in which thousands of kids formed literal armies in the streets of the big cities and had pitched battles against each other, despite all being communists, and also had kangaroo trials where they publicly executed their teachers. No joke, this shit happened.
Similar with the Nazis, who ought to be on this list, since they were socialists. We hear all the time now that they killed 6 million people. But that was the number of Jews allegedly killed, not the total. The total was double that, at least 11 million "undesirables" murdered outside of military action.

Is there anything that can be done to make relays work better for people using Tor? Or Orbot, if it makes a difference. I write to Orly, but it seems to have the same problem all of them have, which is not seeing my notes sometimes. I think it's because of Tor.

Its a fun subject to talk about. Buuuut you give me too much credit - I vaguely recall that and I think I was being rather absolutist. Y'all are right - its precisely the increase in money supply that creates the problems down the line, though I'd also add the risk free nature of lending the way modern banks do (can't lose what never existed). I really like the compromise they found in some middle eastern countries - usury is prohibited, but they still want to have a modern economy, so they shift it from interest payments to a stake of equity in the good being borrowed for. Still some moral hazard, but I think its better. As far as the math is concerned, its identical, but instead of the lender becoming big Mr money bags and snowballing it into an empire of basically slavery, the lender gets responsibility and must think more about the risk of bad stewardship. And if they decide to sell that equity and get cash, which would be equivalent to earning yield, that sell pressure could act to lower prices, which is the opposite of what free money does, and that cancels the mispricing you get from debt magnifying the price signal to producers, and when you cancel out that mispricing you get a more efficient economy. I always wonder how much of homelessness, joblessness, or even disease, is really because everything is priced wrong because we have debt sloshing around and causing too much of the wrong stuff to be made. I think the crowding out effect of government spending is like some multiple higher than any economist has ever calculated.
Anyways, a bitcoin economy will sort stuff like that out. But it will only be a positive for the world if people actually use it as money. If we get a world where bitcoin is only used as a reserve and some fiat is issues with bitcoin backing, a lot of bitcoiners will be fooled and think they've won, but that won't be a win. The money supply will still increase and crony capitalism won't be affected at all.

🤔 the war in Iran might not have been the strategic blunder it at first appeared to be.
Iran was supplying shaheds to Russia, and most of the combined output of Russia and Iran was being used in Ukraine - that's somewhere in the range of 3200-3700 drones per month (combined). Ukraine recently passed a macabre milestone in that the number of Russian soldiers killed exceeded the number recruited.
By forcing Iran to use its drones at home, Ukraine **_might_** be under less pressure. It could be like a force multiplier of sorts, amplifying the edge they've gained. And since Russia's tied up in Ukraine, they won't be helping much.
The effect on China is where it really gets interesting. Their Belt and Road project would have made China much less dependent on water shipping, if it completed. Without having to rely on oil shipping, they would be free to attack Taiwan or anyone in the west Pacific. IF the US wins in Iran, cheap Iranian oil will not be flowing to China, via either the land route slightly to their north or via shipping. Expensive oil, sure, but not cheap. China faces a couple of choices here. It could accept the challenge this will pose and continue to wait for monetary problems in the US - some kind of perestroika event is likely, though I see a way it might be delayed. Or they could commit more resources to helping Iran (they have a frigate sitting in the gulf feeding Iran targeting info). Or they could say "F it" and attack Taiwan now, but that will require also attacking Japan.
Now... Its been literally twenty years that I've been watching East Asia with frustration, wondering if they will **_ever_** get over their petty rivalries and form an East Asian Nato... What in fuck does it take for them to see the necessity and do it? Idk. At a minimum, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines need to be in a defense pact, training together, sharing satellites, etc. I've heard South Korea has restarted their nuclear program, BTW. I've also heard there's no way in hell they'll have enough enriched uranium to make any difference by next year, which is when the party is supposed to start.

I'm starting to feel an itch to do a deep dive on Quranic stuff or whatever makes them think this, just to debunk it. I bet its debunkable... I'm convinced that Christ returns in your heart and that is the Apocalypse, and all this end of the world eschatological crap is just crap, and if a deep dive in the bible yielded that, I bet I could get the same from their scripture too.

"Double tap," in case anyone still doesn't know, is when you bomb a place a second time to hit the emergency first responders. Its specifically to maximize deaths. Its a terror tactic. Israel does that shit... And America did it.
When I was a kid, people prayed to God for hearts to soften and peace to reign... For mercy... People still said, "forgive our debts as we forgive others" (or a variation). Now I see Hegseth boasting about killing, and then praying. That's a mockery of God.
It offends me. All this shit offends me. We're so lost.
I don't think God will tolerate being mocked for long. I think Biblical shit's about to happen. I think it would be wise to get out of the way. But idk. Maybe there's a Jonah out there, or a remnant.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that the age of aircraft carriers is at its end, because of drones/cheap missiles. These things are only going to get cheaper. A lot cheaper... radically cheaper, compared with their current cheapness already. When I watch an interception, I see two problems with defense.
First is the cost - I can see that the experience we're gaining here is telling us that expensive defense is a dumb against cheap offense. So, interception will be bullets or drones, and if you watched the defense of that embassy last night, maybe you'll agree - i think bullets are the way. There's also that company with the lasers, which seem very impressive, but that won't work in the near future, despite working quite well, because of the second problem...
All the interception video I've seen shows only one or two missiles at a time, and I've only seen one drone at a time. In the case of that embassy, the drones were coming in fairly quickly, but were still one at a time. That won't continue. If you can shoot down one, they'll send two. If you can shoot down two, they'll send three. Etc. As long as attack is cheap - not necessarily cheapER, just cheap - then the attacker always has the option to just send more simultaneously. This has been my main criticism of Iran's tactics so far - everything makes sense except this one thing : they could have saturated every target, but didn't. I'm not rooting for them, just to be clear. If an cutting edge system like lasers can defend an area effectively, then you just send a dozen of the flying lawnmowers at the same time at that one target, and then everything behind it is freebies. Or two dozen. Is that really how 'dozen' is spelled? Anyways. Or you send in a combo - that nifty Sejjil is surely the most advanced system in this fight, and all the moreso if it slams down immediately after defenses engage a bunch of the cheap drones.
And, as I said initially, these things are going to get even cheaper. And smaller, and faster, and more precise, all at once. Its hard for me to imagine us pouring billions into carriers in the age of drones. Similarly, **_any_** large and relatively immobile target - like bases - is too vulnerable. All force will have to be mobile or stealthy, and all will have to be hyper reactive to changing environments. Slow convoys from point A to point B are not going to work.
Well anyways. This is just my current favorite thing. I'm no expert.
