that, sadly, is the point. her politics is entirely aesthetic and all the more powerful because of it. if she refuses to be constrained by reality and instead sketches a simple terrain of grievance upon which the hateful can map their own specific vengeance fantasies, she has a massive and unassailable platform. we failed to establish a cordon sanitaire and we are paying for it.

that's... actually an improvement. i didn't think we did those anymore

exactly. the only thing anthony ‘i fight tories’ albanese is beating the tories at is their own game.

I've reached contemptuous. albo is on track to have a worse legacy than morrison.
morrisson was a disaster, but everything he did was in line with his stated ideology, reactionary hauntology. he was a venal liar and never pretended to be anything different.
albo has been handed things that he knows are problems and is refusing to fix them, contrary to the ideology he claims, and to every stated goal, to every promise. he won the election by total default and his opposition was in shambles and his government has used that as an excuse to do every awful thing they can to please their masters, presumably because they presume this one's a freebie. after all, how often do you have the chance to be so deliberately damaging, while still fucking up less than the other guys would have done?

it really is an absolute gift for the far right. this labour government is going to end up with a worse legacy than the morrison government.

i feel like the government could be doing something, so the reserve bank didn't have to keep pulling the one lever they have access to, but then i remembered that the government is unable to acknowledge the existence of the many levers it has access to, let alone pull any of them, then i have a little swear.

voting alone will not solve the problem, it will merely reset the clock.
there needs to be a more profound shift away from a model that promotes the tendencies that lead to fascism as good, from the myth of the rugged individual, to neoliberalism.

while it is deeply satisfying to wreath ourselves in righeous anger and point like nemesis at those who demonstrate such blatant disregard of everything they claim to stand for, it tends not to move the needle.
there's no better nature to appeal to.

someone pointed out how clearly this illustrates the fact that the only organising principle of mainstream conservatism is white nationalism.
this is something they claim to be a foundational belief; that when the government ceases to represent the interests of the people, and begins to infringe upon freedoms, the moral response is armed defence. and yet here and now when not only civil liberties, but actual laws, have been (in material effect at least) suspended when it comes to vast swathes of the population, they are howling with rage at even peaceful protest.

gods: haha i love this little freak let's see what it does next

2025-10-29 22:32:48 UTC

- reply

absolutely. like, i know it objectively, sam altman doesn't have enough compute or power to deliver the things he promised last time. microsoft is not going to build him his own nuclear reactor, no matter how often he asks. the blackwell chip still sets itself on fire due to the limits of the materials it is made of.
i just worry that it doesn't matter, they are going to effortlessly transition to quantum or whatever the next hyperscaler hopium is, the economy is going to crater but we are all going to have to pretend that it isn't happening. we will have to walk around saying that ai was a success in order to preserve the self-mythology of vapour-huffers like prabhakar raghavan and, and, like, peter theil or whoever, so they don't order their unwashed, barefoot partyboy palmer luckey to drone-strike several blocks of public housing.

2025-10-29 19:36:54 UTC

- reply

my intrusive fear is that it won't be allowed to burst because it's too much of the economy, too pure a distillation of the ideology. like, it will all slowly collapse, and all the markets will contract and recess but we will just have to pretend.
we will end up rewriting history, and doing nuclear priesthood for vc funding sam altman’s version of john murray speer’s god machine.
