As a private direct messaging specification, it is not perfect but it was the best we have at this time.
This job is to answer the question, which clients support NIP-44?
This job is complete when the question has been answered for all of the popular Mobile and Web clients listed at nostr.net plus any other client with more than 50 github stars. NIP-44 was merged on Dec 20th, 2023 so any client which hasn't been updated since then can be ruled out.
The deliverable will be a list of DM-supporting clients showing yes/no on NIP-44 support and for supporting clients a link to the PR or commit when NIP-44 support was merged or to the announcement of release.

Better late than never indeed. I'm back and never got it done but I'm still interested. Were you one of the ones who messaged me through plebwork? If not, let me just say the purpose is to provide a second data point to what nostr.band has provided. I'd like to get someone (maybe you) to develop it and then host for a year. The format should be a daily and weekly graphs with all npubs and then a lightly filtered version. If it goes well, perhaps we can build more into it.

Starting to feel like Lightning is useless for real privacy. Can't pay nostr.wine invoice from either Mutiny or cashu.me Quixote mint. Errors like "Failed to find route" and "Failed to Fetch" tell me nothing. Is Tor the problem? Are VPNs the best we can do as far as privacy?

Getting "Failed to fetch" whenever I try to pay an invoice from Cashu mint @npub1jq9…9lgq to Mutiny or to nostr.wine.
I'm using Tor and messaged them yesterday. Don't have a huge amount of sats there but with full custodial we need to nail this experience.

# Cat and Mouse
The story with Samourai is the latest round of an eternal game between cat and mouse. The mouse always wants to live in peace, the cat always wants to catch the mice. However good the mice get at hiding, the cat has to get better at finding.
In the same way that we want to maintain our privacy and keep our hard-earned money, the government wants to maintain order and take an ever-larger cut. There will always be some kind of a state and it will not give up its power voluntarily. Neither will we give in totally. We develop tools, they work to defeat them.
The best we can hope for is a balance where we prosper while keeping the state in the dark. At this time the state is strong and is attempting to scare us but that will change. The state will begin to starve as our tools improve and are adopted by an ever larger segment of society.
This game of cat and mouse will never stop. It's human nature to want power just as it is to want to be left alone. Though our freedoms always seem to be diminishing and the state's power growing it doesn't go that way for ever. There are always balancing factors.
Our challenge is to develop and use our tools with discretion and care. Only in that way can we keep the corrupt state in the dark so that more of us can live in peace than the state has any idea.

probably depends on your exit node so you'll want to have more relays than fewer. through Tor I'm getting notes just fine from damus, lol, and purplerelay.com.
i assumed the issue was getting to tor in the first place, not nostr use once it's on.
if anyone wants to check it out, download whonix gateway and workstation VMs to use tor pretty seamlessly

Attempting to use Nostr and Lightning through the Tor Browser.
The good:
primal, nostrudel, and Mutiny wallet work
The bad:
Tor Browser doesn't save any info so I have to do a lot of copy pasting.
Tor Browser doesn't allow clipboard so have to type the seed phrase into Mutiny each time.
Might setup a VM which proxies everything through Tor so trade a little privacy for usability.
Overall, impressed with how well things work just playing around for a couple hours.
