Kill all your heroes.
There are many people who I would otherwise respect, but who poison themselves with alcohol. It saddens me, and diminishes them.
I could almost make the same claim regarding sugar, but I won't. I doubt anyone actually believes consuming alcohol is really a net benefit, if they take the time to think it through.
I am lucky. I was able to stop, and I can't imagine the damage I may have caused if I hadn't. I am thankful for that.
I hope that as people re-examine health as part of time preference, they find better, less dangerous options.

No one can censor you?
I don't think this is really true. Relays can censor your notes, or your npub - but you are free to use other relays, or your own relays. Content hosting (image hosting) can refuse to host your images or content. Anyone can ignore you, block you, or otherwise curate their content to not include your notes.
So everyone can censor you, individually. As it should be. The difference here is there is no central control over censorship. No one person or organization that can determine your content is not worthy of being transmitted through the nostr protocol. Each relay operator, content hoster, and user is able to censor for themselves.

I didn't see it mentioned, but some communities are also living under direct rule/control of local warlords, cartels, gangs, or other coercive body that has supplanted state control for their own. These societies are also not living under rule of a modern state, and enjoy a form of autonomy.
On an even snaller scale, cults and communes have also established autonomy in their locales, at least for a period of time.
I could draw some conclusions or judgments here, but would rather not at this time.

Ok, I'm going to expand a little on what I've been posting lately.
Here's how I see it:
1) you can't trust anything you hear from outside your own circle of trust / area of influence. For most of us, this is a few friends, some family, and maybe a few dozen acres of geography, if that. Anything you don't observe yourself is only as trusted as the source (so Aunt Patty spewing whatever was on TV news - complete bullshit, and Aunt Patty probably shouldn't be in your circle of trust.)
2) Even if you hear something true, there is fuckall you can do about it. This where area of influence comes in hard and heavy. You might relay information, but that is not really useful outside of your CoT. You can send money, but better than fair chance, that money won't get to where you were hoping, or have the impact you were hoping it would, if the problem is even legit and the solution is money, both of which are often enough false. Unless the problem is directly affecting those in your CoT/AoI, chances are the best thing you can do to react is nothing at all.
3) So what CAN we do? Don't react, prepare. Assume all possibilities you hear (and even ones you imagine or dream) are true, and prepare for those. This isn't necessarily prepper shit, buying bottled water and tubs of shitty "food". This means preparing for a reality where you may need to harvest your own resources, purify water, hunt, etc. And if you stockpile, you may need to defend - so stockpiling may not be your best preparation. I think the best preparations are learning new skills, and doing the mental work necessary. Keeping your mind in a healthy state of readiness. Assess your threats and your ability to respond to those threats, and make adjustments where practical. Your threats could easily be from within your CoT/AoI, so you must assess those as well - and make adjustments.
4) Preparing isn't about reacting; it is about acting first, every day. If you live in a state of preparation and action, others will notice. You may gain their respect; or worse, their dependence. But you can mask some of your preparation, if you are careful.
5) Some things I did to prepare - bought, then learned how to ride, amotorcycle. I see mobility as an issue in most adverse circumstances. If I can commandeer any vehicle, from a quad or dirtbike to a dump truck or fishing boat, my mobility options increase. I should also learn how to properly ride a horse, although I've never been a fan of horses. Smaller motored vehicles take less gas and need less roads. Horses need neither, but do need to be fed. Or they can be food, I suppose. I also bought a diesel truck. Utility, power, and I bet I'll find diesel sources long after gas is gone. I also wanted to learn more about diesel engines, and keep up on manual transmissions, hadn't had one in a while.I bet anyone that saw me buy the bike and truck just thought mid-life crisis. This is the masking. Bitcoin is part of preparation, and so is gold, some cash, bullets. But more important than having them is knowing when and how to use them, and how to hide them. Nostr is also a preparation, because this is at its roots a communications system that can be implemented over any network. A relay can be on your phone. Your phone can be on wifi, which can be on a LAN, which can be expanded over satelite, radio, LoRa, whatever. There's also a ton of information here that could be valuable, even if it is historic rather than contemporary. I think Wiki projects are important, as would be any cataloguing of information, recipes, 3d prints, whatever.
Paranoid? Not at all. I don't believe anything bad will necessarily happen. The point of my preparation is just readiness, for whatever may happen, good or bad. Learn. Act. Conceal. Prepare. Frankie MacDonald and the Boy Scouts weren't wrong about being prepared.
Then you can laugh! Most of what you see is comedy, farce, manufactured drama, and complete horseshit. Laugh at it! This is how you remove its power over you. Don't take things so seriously, because you know that you have already prepared for far worse, and will likely experience far better. Yes, by preparing, you become free to enjoy the better outcomes, the good times, the relief.
There is no single thing that is more important than the mental and emotional fortitude and attitude of constant learning and assessment. Be ready for the worst, and hope for the best! If nothing happens, which often happens, at least you will have learned some things, done some things, and probably met some good people along the way. This is living your best life.
Learning things doesn't have to cost money, although I don't regret any money I've spent on learning things. It is all attitude and the desire to learn; if you want to know something, you will find a way to learn it eventually, even if it does end up costing you.

As a sugar addict, I can tell you that is very dangerous to me. May work for some, but even a hint of sweetener and I can put myself on a sugar binge that will last a day or more. Maybe someday I will regain better control, but for now, it is safer to avoid sweeteners altogether, regardless of how natural they may be.
Also because I am obese, any setback to weight loss is also dangerous. A little honey taking me from 24 BMI to 25 BMI is different from reverting fron 32 BMI to 33 BMI on the way to 26. I put in the work for each of those BMI units, and to backslide is pyschologically impactful, never mind the physical health impact.

I think we're wrong.
We've been trying to answer the question of existence (or being). I'm sensing this is somewhat misplaced, and all thought depending on this question and its answers is misleading and tainted by this root focus. This affects most "first principles" reasoning.
I'm considering that existence/being is the wrong frame. But that begs the question of what would be the right frame, the right question to resolve and ponder? I'm thinking it is one of manifestation. What we choose to see, to create, and of course, to feel.
This allows us to reimagine action, sensation, connection - a different approach to our lives.
I don't know where I may end up with these ideas. I'm sure to experience a lot along the way, though.

I am also an obese bitcoiner, struggling daily with a sugar addiction. Will I ever not be obese? Time will tell. Will I ever not be addictes to sugar? I doubt it.
I will say that oils were not that hard to give up. I assume that I still consume some when dining out, but not enough to matter. I've definitely experienced benefits directly related to not having oils in my diet, including a much higher resistance to sunburn.
I was reflecting today on how many ways people poison themselves, gladly, in the name of health. I don't care if someone wants to eat a plant. Sure, they are ingesting whatever plant toxins it has, but hopefully in a very low amount compared to what may cause harm. I think processed "foods" are possibly the worst offenders, along with "supplements". Saw a jar or powder claiming "Fiber - with real sugar!". To me, that reads "cardboard, with real cocaine!". And to be fair, cocaine might be preferable, and do less damage! People consume this shit because the govt and pharma tells them so, and poison themselves as a result.
So go ahead, eat some berries. Maybe some lettuce or a cucumber or whatever. I choose not to, but you do you. If you're not a sugar addict, maybe have some honey once in a while. But don't eat shit out of boxes, plastic bottles, etc. Your food should be recognizable as its ingredients. Just my thoughts as an obese bitcoiner.

Why more useful than rubber duck? Inherent in my ideas are often questions that an AI might help answer. Another aspect is memory; I would expect my AI to be able to recall that crazy idea I was grinding on last month, especially if I'm now thinking of something related to it.
Brave does show sources ;) as does Duck Duck Go. And sometimes those sources include Wikipedia. DDG's browser product is trash, though, I just use their search at times.

Ge nostr. Finally got Facebook to schedule my account for deletion. There may be an orphaned Instagram account that I never used hanging around out there, doubt I'll ever be able to access it. I created (and just deleted) a Whatsapp account as part of trying to access the IG account. Fuck it. On a sadder note, also deleted my dead cat's FB account (they wouldn't ever allow me to memorialize it anyway.) That should have me entirely out of Meta except for that orphaned IG account that I will probably fuck with again in the future, trying to delete it.
I think that leaves LinkedIn as my only corporate social left.
Also, in separate news, wife is pissed (both in the American sense, still; I did try to apologize for missing her texts yd, but it apparently didn't land - and in the British sense, already several tall boys in.)
Should be a great night!

Yes, I know if you wanted an AI answer, you would have just asked an AI. That said, I was also curious, and my fastest easiest way to scratch that itch was an AI answer. It seemed complete enough I decided to share the result.
I think it is interesting that apparently our eyes are accustomed to seeing rectangles. Moreso that rectangles are rare in nature. That must be recent. Maybe it is that we associate modernity as being in opposition to nature, so unnatural shapes such as rectangles fit with our conception of modernity, which we have been trained to value as good. Obviously there is a lot there. And now I'm considering tall vs. wide rectangles.
Imagine that the television could be seen as a window into someone else's life. Windows are rectangles, in most construction. Also imagine the television as a visual adaptation of a stage, which is framed as a rectangle by floor and curtains. I would add these concepts for consideration.

Not feeling like I'm doing that well (although certainly everything is fine). Some of this may be seasonal, interestingly enough. I think I'm normally pretty good at getting things done. And it feels like that is slipping, like I 'm doing the bare minimum, if even that.
At times I can tell myself I deserve a break or it's nice to relax a bit, but it stiil just feels lazy, and not good enough. Is everything handled? Sure, I suppose. But I know I could do more.
This is a bad illustration of that. I told my wife at the end last month that I quit Facebook, deleted the app off my phone. That is mostly true, the account is still there because of a long story that pisses me off, but Meta won't let me delete it. I told her to text me instead of using Messenger (her go-to for all communication). She was annoyed, but went along.
Today I didn't look at my cell phone between maybe right when I got up (6 am) and when I quit working (after 5pm). She had texted twice (two different topics, several texts throughout the day). I didn't see them until after I had welcomed her home from work (I work from home, she gets home around 4pm). The first topic, she had eventually resolved herself. The second, she is also taking care of.
Now I'm pretty sure she's pissed at me. And I get that. This morning I got up at 6a, set up some stuff for work that ran all day, and started gaming (Ark). I did see her before she left for work and wished her a good day (which happens maybe 10% of days). Then I gamed and worked (mostly gamed, checked work emails and messages a few times) all day. Checked on what had been running all day at the end of the day, it wasn't done, so set it to run all night. Yes, a really easy day at work.
I don't like cell phones. Don't like that I am instantly interruptible. But I have to balance that against my wife's "needs", and one of those is the need to feel heard and supported. I didn't make her feel that way today.
With FB Messenger, I had a desktop client that would alert me on the computer when she messaged. Not so much with texts. So I'm sure she is blaming my leaving Facebook, and equating it with leaving her. I can see that.
And I don't think that this needs a technical solution. I think it needs a mindset solution, or a good talk-through with her, probably both.
But back to the original concept. I feel like I'm not doing enough, even here. Maybe I should be checking my phone more. Maybe I shouldn't be so distracted by gaming. Maybe I should have done more around the house today. Maybe I should have done something nice for my wife.
There's plenty of emotions here. Guilt is one of them, actually more than one of them, as there are multiple guilt elements. One you didn't think about - I can feel guilty I have an easy day of work. Hard to even call it work.
No immediate good resolutions here. This isn't something that is easy to fix. There may be simple solutions, but they aren't easy.
And this is why I nostr. So I can write all this out, which forces me to explore it, accept it, manifest it all in a way. If you've gotten this far or even if you skipped to the end, I appreciate you. This helps.

This is a really fair point. I like the idea of having an AI to be a sounding board, just to bounce random ideas off of. But that AI would have to be private. Also I don't want to spend a lot of time learning how to communicate with it.
What has been helpful is Brave browser's AI search result. I can't comment on other browsers/search engines.
It feels like everything else that a computer *could* automate, I've got it handled. I don't want/need help writing things. I enjoy shopping, when I do choose to buy products and services. There just isn't that much else there for me right now, except for that personal private sounding board.
I think AI will best be used by companies to provide cheaper products/services to me that I already use, or just obfuscate entire methods of action, like email did to snail mail (and couriers, copiers, lots of things.)

I couldn't say what twitter has become,aa I haven't been there in a long while, but Elon's JRE interview was pretty uninteresting. Seemed like a lot of Elon agreeing with Rogan, and not really saying anything new. I kept waiting for him to lay out some reasoning for voting for Trump, and I never heard it, just more of what everyone has already been saying, nothing new to add. Elon just seemed like an awkward kid trying to fit in with a popular kid, and that is never a good look.

Moving between different accounting models. I had been very focused on visualizing everything through the fiat paradigm of assets, liabilities, and cash flow. I did budgeting, again in the standard fiat sense, taking my monthly fiat mine income, deducting my monthly expenses from it, and based decisions on whatever was left over each month.
Now I'm rethinking this. I'm looking at total net worth, total savings, ratio of savings to net worth, total expendable, total monthly liability, and months of runway, all in bitcoin terms. As long as I have x months of runway (let's say 6) as expendable wealth, I can save everything else. I'm able to extend that runway as well as savings through additional debt. You might notice that monthly income isn't represented. This is because it isn't assumed until realized. I could probably factor it in to my runway estimates as a forecast if I wanted to.
This approach is based off lots of ideas I've taken from Mark Moss, Michael Saylor, and others. I am completely divorcing myself from living paycheck to paycheck, and ramping up to take full advantage of this fiat debasement cycle.

When I hear someone say something that I disagree with, I can move on without any outrage. That person's take is just information to me, not a personal attack. Even when they may intend it to be a personal attack, it is still information, and only serves to inform me of their position.

I appreciate your sentiments and explanation. I've come to many of the same conclusions over the past few years, although I have found that by not ingesting sugar and staying as low-carb as possible, I don't have the need to ingest a filler such as fiber, and the satiety I get from meat is enough to get me through to the next meal, which is often the next day.
You seem quick to ridicule carnivore diets, while apparently agreeing with much of the reasoning behind them. I'm not sure where that is coming from, possibly the cultism of its adherents?
I've already lost about half of the weight I was needing to lose to acheive a BMI of 26, where I believe I will start to see the changes I am looking for. I doubt I would see those changes at a higher BMI. My current BMI is 37. My end goal is actually 24.
I would challenge that sugar addiction is the primary cause of premature death and misery in our later years. This includes complications of obesity, as well as heart disease, cancer, and dementia.
Having put my nicotine addiction to rest for now, and hopefully for good, I am now focused on my sugar addiction. Thank you for further validating my conviction.

Ok, I think this captures enough of what you've commented. Must be a touchy subject for you. I never said nourish. I also didn't say anything about eating more or less.
I am morbidly obese. It is one of several goals to correct this, but secondary to other health factors. Adding fiber to my diet, or whey protein, do not seem to me to be a way of safely doing so. I also don't think eating "more" is a great idea.
So, as I asked politely, how do adding fiber and whey protein fuel and replenish your body while allowing for safe weight loss?

This doesn't make sense to me - it seems you are basically eating something with close to zero nutritional benefit, just (I assume) to feel full and trick your body into starving itself to lose weight? If losing weight is your goal, fine - but how does this plan properly fuel and replenish the body, and how does it improve upon eating ruminant animal meat?

On the topic of doing hard scary shit.
I thought uphill switchbacks at relatively low speed wouldn't be that hard.
Until I took the first 10mph buttonhook turn steep uphill on the inside radius. Fuck me! I made it, barely. Gravity, road at a slant, trying to turn a motorcycle and balance while forward momentum is being sucked away by steepness... scary shit.
It was hard. I kept going. It isn't getting less scary or hard if I give up. Some turns I almost lost it. A couple I had to go into the oncoming lane at the end, luckily with no downhill traffic at the wrong moment.
I'm no pro at this shit.
I made it to the top. Now I have to go back down the same turns.
This felt scarier. I took my time at the top. Told myself I would pull off at the pullouts to cool things down (brake, clutch, etc). I was worried, for sure. This was going to be hard.
And shit you not, it wasn't. So much easier. Having momentum and gravity working together on your side is so much nicer. Sure, I took things slow, pulled off a couple times to let cars pass, no big deal. I got to the bottom, no problem.
All this shows sometimes what we expect to be no big deal ends up hard and scary, and vice versa. Either way, DO IT ANYWAY, because not doing it won't get you anywhere.
Doing hard scary shit will change your life, and rarely for the worse. Fear is fine, as long as you don't allow it to paralyze you.

Today's travels led me to Cripple Creek, where I found a rad museum dedicated to mining and the Victorian era in the west.
Then on to Pike's Peak, elevation over 14,000 feet. How many people have ridden a motorcycle to the top? Some, to be sure - there are motorcycle parking spots. But not many. And I am one.
Tomorrow, New Mexico. Looks like Taos and Gallup, not sure how much further I'll get.

Gn nostr. Made it all the way to Pueblo, CO today. 810 miles. 12 miles shy of 1500 miles in two days. Great weather, just a little windy through Wyoming. And of all the states so far, Colorado has the worst roads, in terms of smoothness/repair. But they may have the best drivers.
Staying relatively local for the next couple days, before travelling through the southwest.

Gm. Today's goals - minimum goal: Salt Lake City. Easy goal: Laramie, Wy. Stretch goal: Ft. Collins, CO. Bonus - anything south of Ft. Collins. Yesterday I ended up about 30 miles past Twin Falls, which was my stretch goal - so nicely into bonus miles. It makes today a lot less stressful. Pueblo on Sunday is only 770 miles away, I could make that today if I wanted to. The meetup tomorrow in Springs is looking good.

I'm really glad I'm gping on vacation at the end of the week, because I almost quit. I even told my manager I quit - quit doing all the leadership stuff, effective immediately.
