Is the #Fediverse really open for #freedom?
In the last weeks, I noticed more & more messages from different instances/admins about moderation, banning and de-federations. Initially, people told the Fediverse is more open, not blocking and deleting content compared to other social medias. However, I think it shifted to the opposite where a single instance admin decides for the whole user base (which might not even be aware of it).

Would you be interested into an alternative #IPv6 Tunnelbroker service? Hosted and located in Germany, offering free IPv6 subnets (not sure about sizes, sth. between /64 - /48) that can be used by #SIT, #GRE, #OpenVPN or #Wireguard tunnels. Currently, this is already available but only for @npub1av0…490d users.

What do you miss in #Proxmox or #XCPng?
My customers often told me, that when migrating from #VMware based setups, they would miss something like #DRS. As a result I published #ProxLB as a load balancer. Now, I do the same for #DPM and also some other things. What do you miss or what stops you or your business from switching to Proxmox or XCPng?

We techies really are nerds living in our own little bubble. Every time I talk to friends outside of IT, they just laugh at the things we take for granted. In our world, it’s completely normal to assume that everyone has their own domain, self-hosts everything, avoids anything proprietary like it’s the plague, and probably has a dozen side projects running on some self-built server in their closet.
But then there’s my friend, a mechanic, who finds this absolutely hilarious. To him, it’s like expecting every car mechanic to not only have their own repair garage at home but also to manufacture their own tools and, while they’re at it, maybe even start their own car brand. It sounds ridiculous when you put it that way - but to us, that’s just how things should be!

The #Fediverse is free, free of censorship, federated and full of great content!
Also the Fediverse - instance admins randomly blocking whole instances just because a single user feels offended of a post by a single instance user. Blocking whole instances is just a finger snip away, censoring unwanted content and parenting users of instances. Defederating just because of… ok no clue :) Using content warner for any possible content just to annoy or aeemmm make it more interesting to other users. Thanks, I’m old enough :) Seeing all the spam because it’s just a thing of 5 minutes automation to create randomly new instances on different domains (or subdomains from dynamic-ip hosters) and to fill the network with automated content.
Sometimes, pros can easily switch into cons… luckily more and more single user instances are raising up for exactly this reasons and can still easily federate by using relays…

I never understood people complaining about Twitter, X, Reddit etc using their data for training - but now spreading their public data to everyone who scrapes it - for even more users to train their AI and even easier. Simply follow profile for profile of a post, thankfully even easier for specific topics on hashtags and briefly described alt images

I got asked if I could create a #howto for creating a (public) #NAT64 service - just like I did recently for #BoxyBSD. With #DNS64 and #NAT64 you can also reach resource in the legacy internet (#IPv4) on #IPv6 only systems.
While this is based on #unbound and #tayga, there’s also a solution by using the #OpenBSD's native way which is also running on the other gateway. I’ll share a second how to how to do this in OpenBSD and pf.

Wondering if @npub1av0…490d users running their free #VPS instances would be interested in being reachable on #IPv4 for their website by a shared HA Loadbalancer.
My idea would be, that user can add DNS names in the self-service portal and a service gathers SSL certificates from #LetsEncrypt and creates a reverse proxy Vhost config to the users VPS box instance. But - this would mean that the certificates would be placed on a shared loadbalancer and I’m not sure if I really want to be able to have those certificates on a system which even would provide me the possibility for MITM. Also, it would require a high trust level. However, people asked for something like this after I recently added the #NAT64 gateway.

I moved from a classic multi-component mail server setup (based on #postfix, #dovecot,…) to #Stalwart mailserver - entirely written in Rust and it runs and performs great so far after half an year :)

also don’t see the problem - at least for consumer sites (B2C). Even with public IPv6 spaces, the prefixes may still frequently be changed. In Germany it’s still pretty common to assign a new IPv6 prefix every 24hrs. So from this perspective, nothing gained, nor?

:boxybsd: Oh, @npub1av0…490d has a self-service portal now!
I just wrote a ssh alike service where BoxyBSD users can connect to and manage their own #BSD based VMs, hosted on my BoxyBSD platform. You can now also reset you VM or connect to the console.
Currently, I do not have that much time to provide support for my BoxyBSD project and as a result I created this self-service tool. Hope it helps even it's still far from being perfect.
