Can't afford pesticides around here.
Most locals are pretty hands off for super nasty treatments but eco copper sulphate is used . Eco, Jesus!
They aren't shy with synthetic fertiliser when not sourcing local manure but other than that this area has very good olive oil.
Nothing out of a packet goes on our trees. They are healthy enough living with groundcover and the chippings from pruning time. Beyond eco, but without the damned certificate from the eco mafia you can't sell eco or bio labelled olive oil.
Funnily enough I couldn't even sell my olive oil yesterday. They thought 8€ a litre was too much. Ho ho, let them eat euros then!

Sorry to break your bubble but all IS lost in the UK, as that is not extra virgin olive oil.
The label says so!
it's second press olive oil cut with a bit of extra virgen first cold press.
EVOO would be plastered all over the label if it were so,, but it isn't.
Cold press is also a minefield as it includes from room temperature mid 20's, the average bona fide temp in the better mills, up to 60c.
Higher the temperature the higher the yield. It's the first question of the season when you look for places to press.
I believe the mills do between 3 and 5 pressings. Cold press, a second hotter pressing IE mostly your oil - and then various lantern oils.
Just have to buy direct from growers and not from a supermarket, at least not in a supermarket outside olive country.

Unless a significantly larger proportion of the population grasp where inflation comes from and understand who first legitimised money, society is heading for a bad place.
The states running on a fiat standard have been steadily wresting the rights from the people to decide what money is. Less cash in circulation makes more transactions monitorable and stoppable by self appointed permission givers.
And having taken control of the supply of money, rather than use it for the general good, they choose to press a printing button to make us work ever harder to stand still. And not satisfied with that, print even more to make us go backwards. All the while they are making up BS reasons and causes for inflation/ rising cost of living, as a cover for the top to continue accumulating real assets for themselves.
It's not alright to accept such a corrupt financial system, especially as it is the 99.9% of people who vote in the representatives of the people, most of whom in reality actually are wolves in sheep's clothing, doing the bidding of the robber class.
It is not alright to lower ourselves to their cowardly level and frighten, threaten, manipulate, shoot or beat them into submission.
It is perfectly fine to find an alternative money that is accepted by the people and transact within communities p2p and leave the "powerful" who would see us in the gutter, financially disengaged.
And if those elected to power don't want to provide a few essential national services from a greatly reduced government office, they should end up out on their ear.
For me, that's why bitcoin has to be adopted wide and fast. And why I'm running for president.

I'm getting a taste for what it's like being outside the system.
Yesterday I found out that if you aren't currently insured, car insurance rates in Spain start from point Xero, treated as a new teen driver.
Next step down from that, just been told I'm lucky to be able to pay astronomical rate because most insurers aren't even prepared to insure me.
For context I have had a full licence since 1982 in 3 different countries never had a serious accident, and according to official tables of accident rate demographics, Im in almost the safest age bracket for insurers. But I haven't had a car for 4 years...
I live off grid so you don't get post or courier service. A simple solution, you set up a drop off point with a local post office or courier agent in town. Nowadays try buying off of Amazon type sites, so many products are flagged not able to be sent to drop off addresses. Need a home address. So I'm what, knocking on someone's door asking if they will accept my packages?
A word to Nostr, the open solution to walled gardens. Try setting up a lightning wallet to work with some apps - limited drop down options are creeping in.
You can push back on Nostr. There's no point screaming at legacy insurance companies or e-commerce sites. But the sooner open minded companies move into every legacy space the better. Because this is developing into a road to nowhere, pay to play, massive exclusion and growing anger at faceless companies - and I still need to drive and I still need the products I can't get delivered.

I don't think the lady at the car insurance office understood how wrong her industry is. Wrong as in broken and predatory.
I started driving 45 years ago and played the game with insurance, start high go low over time..
I had full insurance in Spain for 9 years. 4 years ago I sold my car and been walking ever since. But now I need a van.
I asked for a quote, information. She required my driving license. When she asked about the vehicle I showed her an option online. She required the registration number.
I was literally dumbstruck. Wtf. It's not my vehicle. I want info not a signed up policy. She would not continue without it.
After all that the cheapest quote for basic insurance was €700.
The justification was that I did not have an active car insurance policy therefore there was no claims to reference, back to the start. I couldn't speak, it was like a sucker punch. 41 of the last 45 years playing the game just wiped away. What?
2 years with no claims and it will start to go down, she said, completely oblivious to what 700€ actually means in a country where 1000 a month is OK money for the majority. I asked why it wouldn't be cheaper next year and she dropped the next bombshell.
Cost of living rises will put the lower price back up to €700. Just like that, broad grinned acceptance that inflation will make sure I never benefit from driving safe.
This is the matrix, the fricking crazy world where I'm the rude person asking her to justify the racket.

Summer veg is all nice and dandy but basic survival food is perennial winter food, nuts and fruit.
At 8000 calories per litre, I just stashed about 1 million calories of extra virgen olive oil, 5kgs olivas muertas - that's about 600kgs of pressed olives and 20kgs of almonds.
Chickens need imported feed to lay at full speed but if it ever got ugly, they can get by on forage and keep us in eggs.
Meat is obviously another source of food :) but, here's an unpopular observation - if it's in the deep freeze, that doesn't count as secure food.
For a bit of food in reserve, think of food sources that require no tech to store.
Hope it never comes to be vital.

Arguably the only thing that can change the desolate direction of travel of mankind is a new fiñancial system.
Review the incentives from the top down. Family, yes or no? Education or indoctrination? For sustainable profit or for Maximum profit whatever the cost?
Health, entertainment, food production, transport options...
the decision making on that little lot seems at its bottom line driven by the financial consequences.
The financial system is inflationary, precarious by design, predatory by design. With investment for instance, we are all thrown in the ring despite being deliberately de educated from childhood about money and the system. The few best players win all at a game that is to deceive, to string along.
We are a social, cooperative animal at the core. We should be deciding on our present and future options based on best incentives for all, not, how do 99.9% of us protect ourselves against a group literally out to get us without us realising, or if you do wake up, wheres the static target to aim at, address, challenge, negotiate with. There isn't one.
They have all the cards etc 2. Numbers and bitcoin. And unlike the few, we don't have to hurt a fly to rebalance the game. Just wake up and make a decision.
Hard money for a better life. Easy money, a shit life and arguably end of life for everyone including the few.

I'm sure if they swapped cardboard for thin plywood that bed base would be indestructible.
My bed is 8 concrete blocks for a base with oversize pallets topped off with a panel of 2"/50mm celotex. On the base I have a thin eiderdown. Voila, it has the same feel as a physio bench and can probably take the weight of an elephant!

You'd be surprised by so called normies, at least where I live. So many people are skeptical about the mainstream, and historically there is a distrust in the provinces of Madrid govt and an undercurrent of independence seekers.
Spain is quite big on bitcoin but not in the sticks. There are lots of alternative types doing their thing falling off the radar, even tried to introduce a local currency years ago. The missing link is lack of awareness of the "right tech".
To avoid tracking on social media locals trading between themselves are mostly stuck on WhatsApp private groups, and don't spend their lives studying bitcoin, so Nostr and zapping is not on their radar. But if and when they turn up on nostr, you should get some cool content and amazing variety of food and from resourceful people
, as it stands, though, Nostr has no appeal to 99% of normies pitching up for the revolution. It doesn't help that landing cold on a Nostr social app it is endless scrolling through zealous bitcoin bullshit. So I need to tell people, sign up anon and immediately search hashtags for your interests - and pray it is true that bitcoiners do have interests outside of fricking ngu and hating on monero :)

One theory is the govt social engineering people out the cities to less densely populated areas.
Well, that is a big policy about turn right there, because the govt prefers everyone in one place, easier to " look after". For a real life example, Franco drove the rural population into the towns, and there they still stay. Rural depopulation is massive and is a global trend. The more in cities, the merrier.
Maybe govts saw sense in encouraging humanity to once again live in harmony with nature and are trying to fog us out for a few days so that billions of urbanites with suffocating mortgages upsticks into the countryside to build neat little homesteads with a bridging loan.
If so, I would run for the hills because the govt has lost its tiny mind. What a physically and financially ridiculous notion.
But hey, those who want to relocate to the countryside and live the dream off grid , be prepared, because the fog that's been a regular natural phenomenon for aeons ain't great for power generation for modern conveniences :)

Not preaching, but experience says, if you can cut alcohol out of your routine, you should find that much falls back into place.
Going through my blood readings last year, my doc was raving about my kidneys being super healthy , which, knowing my taste for wine, seemed a bit freaky. Thinking I was some freak of nature, she then asked if I ate meat and I said no. Clever so and so told me to cut down on the booze. I asked how she knew I drank a lot. Simple. Alcohol was the most likely source of excess sugar in my blood. Bollocks.
Natural wine doesn't induce hang overs and is about as healthy as an alcoholic beverage can get, but even a bottle of that every day erodes your constitution.

Found myself defending gold when talking to a trader. Ouch.
I did it on behalf of the hard asset community! And a reaction to the charge that convicted Bitcoiners are too conservative.
For them everything is a dollar accumulation trade, even bitcoin. They say gold is a lame duck. No returns worth a dime.
I suggested that gold is the enemy of fiat, the asset that traditionally would reveal the failings of fiat. Suppress the dollar price of gold, hide the fiat fraud. If hyperinflation kicks in, gold's past performance will have nothing to do with future returns. Not heard back. Have I got it wrong?
Bitcoin is the fastest horse etc etc, but holders of gold surely sleep well too.

Good advice for certain lifestyles, but reading this from rural Spain, every hour of lifting weights and machines sounds like a productive hour lost. Your point about the economy crashing when the dollar becomes valueless - well, yeah. That's the way of hyperinflation.

Satoshi started dispersing bitcoin as far and as fast as possible, so that the maximum number of people had an instrument to get through a fiat financial collapse. If it had been a hodl technology BTC would never have taken off.
This is all points I remember from Max Keiser btw.
It is becoming clear that if we believe in bitcoin we have to spend it into the general economy. And because it is such a hard asset, whatever it is spent should be put to very good use, hardening the economy as it spreads, reducing the impact of fiat collapse.

The Weimar republic comes to mind. Even if fiat still exists there comes a point where nobody wants it in exchange for real things. As Max Keiser notes, at some point we will be offered 10m for a bitcoin and nobody will bite. The fiat becomes pointless, however easily big players can access its endless pot they won't be able to buy BTC with it.
I think that's how it is going to play out eventually.
There are all sorts of what ifs, like being forced to accept fiat or forced confiscation of valuable hard money etc, but that's a set of issues that implies a governnent is hanging on to power by a thread. That's when a social issue for the people to resolve takes precedent, and concerns for btc as a currency has to sit and wait for an outcome.

Isn't bitcoin already well distributed, and the idea of 10 holders in total highly unlikely? Even if 10 were trying to be all-owning there would be at least 1 more out there not selling their bitcoin - you. And I recall 74% of all bitcoin hasn't moved in months since the ETFs. Might want to fact check that, but overall the meglananiacs will be limited by refusal to sell for any amount of fiat shit.

Your reference to making a law to allow bitcoin usage under certain conditions jumped out as an act of control.
Bitcoin already has rules, which work quite fine without, and with no care for any attempted intervention. It saw off China apparently.
That's where I was coming from with "control"
I don't doubt that your scenario is an accurate portrayal of the likely direction in "stable" states but it should hopefully be a deviation as people realise the system they have got used to is more broken than they thought.
As Self custody options improve in leaps and bounds, along the trajectory we have seen in recent years, bank solutions will become ever more exposed for what they are - desperate land grabs that change nothing for the vast majority.
I don't want to see a collapse, bankers are people too, apparently, but just look to the actions of people in broken states who already understand that a bank is not necessary to use bitcoin.
There will be much effort to shoehorn broken institutions into bitcoin, but at some point the lights will come on en masse. bitcoin offers a 180 degree alternative to the dead end direction the financial system was taking us. I don't know if I will be around to see it, but I like to think I maybe contributed a couple of sats worth to the outcome.

Don't you think the main problem is that most people in well off nations want change without doing anything different?
Even if you had 100 live wires on the inside, a libertarian govt would still be looking at a nation where the vast majority would not react well to being told to go make a job.
Not saying it isn't a fine aim, but don't you remember how frustrated Maradona got when managing a team that literally couldn't do what he showed them over and over!

Prior to 2019, there was a 20 year period of policy that tolerated growing inequality, compounded by austerity started in 2010. A consistent period of compounded lack of care for the old or the poor or the health service. Then Brexit was used as the distraction in 2016.
The EU was not on anyone's radar in 2016 UK.
This is a classic example of how the media and govt colluded to tell a nation what to think about while they are being hammered from every angle. Old women and babies were dying at greater rates than ever because of politicians' policies, meanwhile politicians were blaming morality rates on the weather.

Something happened yesterday that made me wonder. What if the western elites decided long ago that the way to gain total control over the population was to first let China push the envelope on surveillance and control. Paint them as the bad guys, make us think that the average Chinese person lives like a timid victim of Big Brother, when it's nothing of the sort. But paint that picture.
Meanwhile the west are playing the classic moral high ground game of accusing your adversary of exactly what you do behind the scenes!
IE the unthinkable is rolling out before our eyes and instead of the opportunity to make America great by focusing on liberty and freedom, they and the rest of the g7 are actually going to out big brother the Chinese and their Brix buddies as they position themselves in a fast evolving multi polar world.
That's the thesis for my next novel.

Don't shoot the messenger but attitude to hygiene standards are different shall we say in the US, compared to Europe. In the US it seems the level of husbandry in huge operations is such that cleaning is deemed essential.
IE chlorinated washes to clean chicken carcasses. I have no idea how battery farmed eggs could ever be contaminated but hey, I guess the authorities there just want to covertheir arses and have the eggs cleaned too? Mental because shells are porous.
In Europe, the BS merchants in Brussels will tell the world their farmers run their industrial scale farms at a hospital level of clean. Maybe they do in comparison, I don't know.
But I do know that the everyday person who tries an egg from a chicken living in humane circumstances from chicken owners like us can't believe how tasty the eggs are, and can see the difference in the look of the yolk, compared to the perfect industrial European egg.
So anything that dismantles the industrial farming of chickens, and BS rules, sign me up.

Persist with Nostr semantic pedantics and Nostr will not grow as fast as it could.
The wide world understands platform, accounts, app, server, password, username.
It currently doesn't much care for protocols, relays, clients, nPubs, nSecs, Nips. For crying out loud, Nips! Nobody who you want to use Nostr cares what a Nip is, any more than I want to know what makes my car work.
Just saying. I was listening to #BenArc explaining Nostr to #MrObnoxious. He practically invented this place but there is no elevator big enough to take that pitch.
It was a big kick in the ass for me. So thanks Mr Ark. I am preparing a "For dummies" text to guide prospective visitors into signing up to Nostr so they can access the Nostr features I have integrated into a new website.
Gotta pitch it so your disinterested 80 year old mother ends up pushing you out the way to sign up!

What is the most barebones Nostr app you can think of, so that when I send a newbie to sign up, they don't think "Nostr is ..."
By that I mean, the focus is so much on social media. Newbies finding Nostr via Twitter or on youtube etc are almost pre-programmed to think "Nostr is social media", which is not the reality, it's a whole fricking internet in the making.
So I want my (go to iris.to) instructions to be:
- Go to "nostr-no-name" (little clue what Nostr is)
Add a nym
Press Go!
Settings > Keys - Copy the key pair into a password manager
- Open browser settings
Search for getalby
Install
Add key pair.

Colonialism alive and well.
A couple of other words I've come across for "foreigner" . Excuse the spelling, khawaja. The white skinned people said it means white man, but the uncomfortable truth is it actually means rich man, So some locals were known too as khawaja, and then you realise it isnt perhaps a positive word!, even though, delivered with no malice.
Here white ex pat immigrants, covering my bases there! are referred to as guiris. I've still not worked out what it really means because although it's never said with malice, they say it is tourist, but after 20 years Im still a guiri!?
In SW UK the tourists are called grokles and that was not a positive word.
Who knows in this desemanticised touchy age, does anyone know what they are even saying any more :)

Climate change is too big a concept, too many moving parts, too easy to get whataboutery so it becomes a sullied subject.
I am a simple person and just look out the window and what I see tallies with that last list, mostly man made pollution and interference on a local level multiplied about globally.
The eco devastation of wars, forest fires, just two incredibly destructive events with mans paws all over them. Kind of doesn't matter if "the global climate" is misfiring, til we aren't doing our nonsense locally, it's hard to have a debate about how we pull together to improve the world. Cheers
