And so Iceland said "no" to joining the European Union.
Honestly? I get it. Who in their right mind willingly signs up for top-down moralizing and a bureaucratic apparatus designed to regulate everything down to the shape of your cucumbers?
Yet, part of me still feels a bit of a sting. I actually believe in human brotherhood, cultural exchange, and voluntary cooperation.
I just hate that the State hijacked the concept and sold us a membership card with a 1,000 page terms of service.
Real, lasting cooperation doesn't come from treaties signed by politicians in expensive suits. It comes from voluntary alignment, aligned incentives, and game theory.
You know, the stuff that makes Bitcoin tick and keeps open-source software running without a central CEO calling the shots.
Open source isn't just a license for software code, it's a architecture for life. It proves we can build complex, thriving, and deeply cooperative global systems without borders, without coercive authority, and without asking for permission.
Less Brussels, more consensus mechanisms. 🤙

Is the duration of peace directly proportional to the magnitude of the preceding disaster?
WWI was a global catastrophe, followed by barely 20 years of fragile truce. WWII was an exponential leap in destruction, yet it paved the way for nearly 80 years of (relative) stability.
It seems humanity only finds balance when the scars are deep enough to be terrifying.
Now that those scars are fading, the peace is starting to creak.
Are we doomed to need ever-greater disasters to secure longer eras of peace? Or can we find a way to break this cycle of 'peace through trauma'?
History is a brutal teacher.

They’re all FIAT stuff.
I still use them most of the time, but they’re just tools. I keep spreading the word about open source, trying to help the people around me go down the rabbit hole!
Banks could still exist in a Bitcoin standard, though. Not everyone is willing to take full responsibility for self-custody, and a proper custody service, without fractional reserves or other nonsense, could actually be a useful and legitimate business.

I believe that absolute freedom is an ideal to strive for, though impossible to fully achieve.
Yet, every choice we make is a step closer to the greatest relative freedom possible.
I don’t see anything wrong with entrusting a few sats or some data to a private entity you deeply trust. In fact, I think a well-designed federated network can be a good compromise on this challenging journey toward freedom.

I often daydream of a united, prosperous Europe, a global powerhouse of freedom and human rights.
That was the vision of pioneers like my fellow countryman Alcide De Gasperi after the nightmare of WWII.
But today, I see that dream drowning in absurd bureaucracy, top-down regulations, and chilling economic policies.
Bitcoin, NOSTR, and open source teach us a better way: a borderless, open world where human potential flourishes in harmony.
Let's build that.
Freedom is power.

The knowledge of the English language is crucial nowadays and has become almost indispensable in the tech world, especially in the Bitcoin space. As a native Italian living in Italy, I really feel this need.
I can understand written English fairly well, but when it comes to having a real conversation, that’s where the problems start, and the same happens when I watch a series or listen to a podcast. To stay informed and practice at the same time, I listen to podcasts, often slowing the playback down to 0.75x so I can follow more easily. Among the many I’ve tried, "Once Bitten!" di @nprofile…3424 is definitely one of the shows I find easiest to understand, and I recommend it to anyone who, like me, wants to improve their English but doesn’t have daily opportunities to practice.
This episode about the Op-Return debate is one I really, really enjoyed!

I've always adored Bowie, ever since I was a kid. I've always considered him one of the smartest, most visionary, and prophetic artists in the world.
This album, The Man Who Sold The World (which gave its name to the song famously covered by Nirvana in their final MTV live) contains an absolute gem that, when listened to through the lens of generative AI and large language models, hits differently.

You’re absolutely right, I will definitely read it. You probably already understand that my criticism was more of a self-critique rather than about your work, which I actually consider extremely valuable.
After all, nothing stops us from starting to experiment with networks and secondary devices until we gain enough confidence.
Another key aspect, in my opinion, is being able to count on developer and advocate “proxies” who can self-host, even just for a small circle of close friends, in a federated, value-for-value mindset, which I believe is one of the hallmarks of open source technologies.

really appreciate what you’re building here, this kind of work is crucial for real digital sovereignty and self‑hosting.
I’m still too much of a beginner with networking and security to run a setup like this safely, and for people without the right skills there’s a real risk of doing the opposite of privacy and exposing a critical vulnerability. So for now I’ll keep learning and experimenting on a smaller scale.
Your work is essential for people who want to self‑host their own infrastructure. Huge respect.

Big shoutout to @nprofile…ewfh and his Orangepill App, such a clean, focused way to help Bitcoiners connect worldwide. Been using it for a couple of years now, and it’s amazing to see how much it’s grown.
Sure, you can use TG or other “free” tools to get similar results, but that small subscription fee is totally worth it for the quality, signal, and overall experience.
Sometimes I wonder if NOSTR should evolve in a similar direction, maybe through dedicated relays where a few sats of subscription could keep the space clean from bots and scammers. I’m no NOSTR expert, but it feels right that relay maintainers should be paid directly by users in a true value-for-value model, instead of relying on forced or indirect monetization.

It marks a brief, hopeful pause of light before winter, born from a simple act of generosity.

Just finished binge-watching “Il Mostro” on Netflix — a gripping take on one of Italy’s most famous and controversial true-crime cases.
It stirred the uneasy fascination felt as a kid hearing about those murders.
Highly recommended if you want a window into Italy’s late ’60s and ’70s: the ’68 upheaval, women’s emancipation, and the birth of modern society.
Production design is outstanding, with meticulous, handcrafted detail.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain sats privately.
I believe those interested in stopping Bitcoin, having understood that the protocol is unstoppable and immutable, are trying to make direct and private access ever harder.
If they cannot stop it, they will at least choose to control it.It is our destiny, a game of cat and mouse: freedom has a price, and that price is the effort and study required to stay updated, understand, and master new technologies...
It is a power play: control, knowledge, freedom.

"C'est dans l'angoisse que l'homme prend conscience de sa liberté…"
Sartre.
"It is in anguish that man becomes aware of his freedom..."
Freedom isn’t given. It weighs heavy. Like mastering Bitcoin and NOSTR, radical freedom, protocol-ensured.
Few understand. Family, friends don’t get it.
You pay the price in solitude and effort.
Maybe this anguish is why so many religious-like impulses grow in this space: the need to polarize, to form tribes.
Sometimes aggression and rudeness are just shadows of that anguish
Still, even if we are few and somewhat suffering, we are on the right path.
Embrace the struggle.
Own your freedom.

Just read France is pushing to add BTC as a national reserve asset 🇫🇷. I love our cousins across the border, but as a proud Italian, that friendly rivalry stings a bit 😏.
They’re not just holding seized coins—they plan to **mine new ones** with their nuclear surplus (a sector where they lap us, no contest).
Meanwhile, Italy—like so many “old inside” nations—keeps slamming the brakes on innovation, blind to progress, stuck in rigid, aging stagnation.

Diving into the world of BIP standards for generating child seeds from a master seed can feel a bit overwhelming, but you’re on the right track with BIP-85!
It builds on the foundation of hierarchical deterministic (HD) wallets from BIP-32, refined to make deriving child seeds much more intuitive.
The real win with hardware wallets like BitBox02 and Blockstream Jade is their straightforward app design: no need to write code or manually track derivations like in Sparrow or Electrum.
You just pick a number (say, #1 for ‘Nipote Luca Xmas’), generate a child seed, and name it right in the app.
Klever uses standard BIP-39 seeds to create addresses, with naming handled through simple in-app notes for easy tracking, but BIP-85 gives you full wallet separation, recoverable with your master seed and the number you chose.
As an Italian, I love how this keeps family gifting organized – it’s like labeling jars in nonna’s kitchen!
Labeling UTXOs is simpler, but BIP-85 is perfect for your nieces/nephews’ sats.
I’m sure @BTCsessions’ video will break it all down perfectly – don’t be afraid to experiment, creating wallets carries no risk.
With fees low right now, load a few thousand sats and try recovering them without the seed, just using the serial number or label.
Sharing these tips keeps our sats and stories secure.
Hope the video sparks some ideas!

For your use case, I think BIP-85 is perfect – it lets you derive 'n' child keys from a master seed, each tied to a serial number you choose.
For example, pick numbers tied to your nieces/nephews (birthdays, anniversaries, or just 1, 2, 3...). With your master seed (keep it yours, offline!), you can generate infinite gift addresses and recover coins if they’re lost, using just the seed + serial index.
It’s a top feature, super secure with hardware wallets!
BitBox02 and Blockstream Jade make it intuitive – check this BitBox post for a clear breakdown:
https://blog.bitbox.swiss/en/using-bip-85-child-keys-with-the-bitbox/
Labeling UTXOs is simpler, but BIP-85 nails family gifting.
I love that you’re bringing your nieces/nephews into Bitcoin – as an Italian, la famiglia is everything to me!
They will be forever grateful to you.
Sharing these tips keeps our ledgers and hearts organized.

Your raw honesty resonates deeply.
Raised in an Italian Christian family, I rebelled in high school, wielding Nietzsche’s superhuman and Bacon’s tabula rasa to break free from dogma, diving into atheism, nearly nihilism.
Yet Kant’s take on Christianity as a moral compass stuck with me.
Now, maturity pulls me toward Zen’s calm, where Christ’s teachings oddly echo.
I love this blend of spirituality and tech in the Nostr and Bitcoin world.
Even if it risks some fanaticism, it’s precious that philosophy tackles innovation while keeping morality in focus.
Dialogue and debate are the foundations of knowledge and human progress.

Great question, thank you!
Yes, almost all wallets let you export an "Excel" file with labels – but please, use an open-source spreadsheet like LibreOffice Calc instead of Microsoft, open-source everything is the rule!
I’ve heard great things about Blockstream Green: the latest version (2025) ties your personal labels directly to the seed, so you find them on any device. It’s multi-platform and includes a simple yet effective 2FA with multisig – perfect for securely holding medium-value amounts even on a hot wallet.
No KYC, all tied to your private keys.
For the rest, pretty much every solid wallet (e.g., Electrum, Sparrow, BlueWallet) now has this label-saving feature, always non-custodial.
For extra security, you can periodically save all your transactions locally...
If you're already using a non-custodial wallet – which is essential – it probably already has this feature built-in! Let me know if you need help!

The fevers of Saturday night 🤒
NOSTR ⚡ & BTC 🚀
Last night, chatting with the AI, I discovered this thing about using OP_RETURN as a "container" for NOSTR events.
I am favorable to a cross-use of BTC, I have always supported (and dreamed) that the BTC technology could expand beyond its original purpose (=money). I believe that even Satoshi had this desire.
What we have to be careful about, in my opinion, is to avoid as much as possible operations that could, in the future, push toward centralization.
It is really difficult to predict what turn some choices will take, so, if we really want to lean NOSTR on BTC, we should do it with the maximum caution.
I don't have the "titles" to support deep discussions, but I am very curious about this debate and completely captured by the decentralization and distribution of NOSTR and BTC.
I wonder if anchoring NOSTR to the blockchain is too risky...

What really matters… is the label, but not the fashion kind 😎
I never cared for brands, but Bitcoin made me fall in love with labeling. ✅
Label every transaction, in, out, and especially your change UTXOs.
It keeps your on-chain (and lightning) history clean and traceable.
Most wallets let you export labels, do it monthly, back them up.
Otherwise, if you change wallet or device, you might lose them.
Stay organized 🗃️
And if you’re feeling fancy, use OP-RETURN for an immutable and ultra public record…
...just don’t annoy the Spam War purists 🤣
Bitcoin proves it: sometimes, the label does matter. 🧡

I always enjoy grabbing a few satoshis at ATH.
I firmly believe in DCA, sometimes we’re doubtful about when to buy Bitcoin, and we feel bad if, right after the trade, the price drops.
Like every trader dreams, we’d all love to buy at the bottom and sell at the top.
But the magic of Bitcoin is this: it makes short-term fluctuations irrelevant.
Okay, I bought at ATH?
It’s going to be pure joy, I already know, to look back on that purchase in a few years and see the difference in fiat terms...
So don’t despair if you buy and retraces a couple of hours later, just smile and stay calm, because sooner or later you’ll laugh about it!

The recent Gaza protests in Italy struck a chord with me.
The scenes from Palestine are brutal.
Young people, flooded with real-time global news, are angry and they have every right to be.
Their anger is sacred.
Their fight for peace is pure.
But I can’t stand how our sterile, toxic political forces exploit it.
Meanwhile, wars rage on in Ukraine, Congo, and Haiti, destroying lives we can’t ignore.
I remember my studies in anarchism and its core values.
The non-aggression principle and mutual aid, what Kropotkin called mutual support, alone could wipe out many wars and injustices.
We’re here on NOSTR because we believe in open-source thinking and aren’t scared of proof of work.
Whether it’s marching in the streets, sailing to Gaza, running a Bitcoin node or a NOSTR relay, or building open-source software, I admire anyone who fights for freedom, peace, and justice.
And honestly, I wish politicians would just mind their own damn business.
There’s no other way.
To know and study the greats of the past.
Don't trust, verify.
Only then can we imagine a future without violence and oppression.
Change comes from authenticity, awareness, collective action, not empty political noise.
Join the fight. Speak up. Act now.
The future does not exist, but we do.

Absolutely! I think the same way.
My words were just a play on words, but what you write I fully agree with.
Aristotle, with his doctrine of the ten categories, taught us that labeling reality is a way to understand and communicate the essence of things. These categories are the fundamental structure through which the human mind organizes and interprets the world, but they remain an attempt to frame a reality that often goes beyond mere words.
Just as the shift from classical physics to quantum physics does not mean abandoning the past but integrating it into a broader and deeper vision, so too must our way of thinking and naming the world go beyond traditional labels to embrace a fuller and more nuanced knowledge.
In this way, even if we find ourselves on different ships in a shared sea, we can navigate together with consensus, understanding, and respect for diversity.

I just read a translation by @nprofile…3x2d that really helped me understand a thought I’ve had for a while but struggled to put into words. Thanks to Italiansatoshi for inspiring me to understand time in Bitcoin as more existential and philosophical, rather than scientific.
I’ve seen many Bitcoin maximalists debating whether to call it “timechain” instead of “blockchain”—mostly because “blockchain” has become such a buzzword and is often misused.
As far as I’m concerned, I could also just call it “chain” or, why not, “satschain.”
For me, the name doesn't change the fact that it’s a continuous chain of data—in practice, a chain of satoshi transactions—that has a unique sense of time: one that emerges existentially from consensus and difficulty adjustments, not from scientific clocks.
So, whatever you call it, the core of Bitcoin remains the same: a protocol where time and truth are intertwined in a living network.
In the end, names are just labels; what truly matters is the temporal and Cartesian revolution that Bitcoin has brought to cyberspace, guaranteeing the second axis of knowledge and uniqueness on the Internet.

So, I heard about the whole Comet-Perplexity drama and thought:
“Well, that sounds like a mess.”
I've always liked Perplexity since its launch, but I've mostly used other free AIs instead.
Then this PayPal deal shows up: 12 months of Perplexity Pro free.
My first thought?
“They must’ve really screwed up with Comet to throw that kind of offer out.”
Anyway, I grabbed it today.
After tinkering with it for a few hours today, I think I made a good deal.
Sometimes you gotta turn someone else’s disaster into your advantage, right?

YEAH! That's great!
Full of wonderful people here at the Villaggio Bitcoin Open Day, 4th birthday!
I met very special men and women, it always amazes me how my beloved Orange Protocol can create such an amazing alchemy of souls and hearts.
Many of the people I have met have unique and unrepeatable stories.. stories of work, passion and freedom.
I love the digital way, but physical is better, sometimes.
Love, study and use #Bitcoin...
Always!

I get your point and say no to #boat the UTXO set!
OP_RETURN keeps junk out of the UTXO set.
Without a drain, spam floods the state every node must carry forever.
I don't entirely agree with how it was imposed and, if I had a node, I would stay at 29 for a while... 'still I think it could work!

On #OP_RETURN and #spam in #Bitcoin
Think of spam like a flood.
If we design proper spillways and drainage channels, excess water can flow away without destroying our homes. But if we don’t plan for it, the flood will have nowhere to go and it might end up in our living rooms.
OP_RETURN works like one of those spillways: it gives arbitrary data a controlled escape path, instead of letting it clog the essential channels of Bitcoin.
Good protocol design doesn’t deny that floods (or spam) exist, it accepts them and builds resilient ways to handle them.
