It’s been exactly 1.5 years since I started my own business, doing custom window and restorations services in my city

This months book club. Good read, was captivated for most of the book. Not much character depth but appreciated the world building. I felt the ending fell quite flat and was disengaging. Have not watched the Netflix series though. Would be curious to see how they brought it to life

Here’s a custom designed piece to match the restored one. This will be going over the front door, the other will be their bay window
I salvaged the original painted bird centerpiece from the other window from the home, and suggested we add it to the new one to pay homage. Bring a little old into the new
I really love the opaque blue mosaic squares in this design, with various blue shades. Just adds some twang to it and reminds me of the glass that was in my church as a kid

A one-of-a-kind stained glass installation laying two windows on top of one another
The homeowner loved the design of the original window but felt the colours weren’t complementing the home well. They didn’t want to remove the window either, so we came to the idea of stacking the windows. They were an artist themselves, so they appreciated the contemporary approach
The final result is a beautiful layered window that creates a 3 dimensional effect, adding some serious depth and movement to the window

Big fan pencil and paper always to brain dump ideas for any stained glass window I make. Try to separate from technology in the brainstorm process to limit any distraction and allow the creativity to flow. Lol at my initial brain dump vs the final window
In terms of AI aversion. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I just use it to compliment the creation process like building a tool to colour, texture and 3D render my windows and other admin I do on my laptop. Any digitally interfacing activity is something to consider if it’s worth building an AI tool to make the process faster to free up more capacity for your creativity

First time using 1/2” round lead. I’m entranced by it. Typical leaded windows are1/4” or 3/16”. Very difficult to find this kind of lead, but needed it for such a large window. Strong as hell to add more strength

I was in the fiat mines too. For about 1.5 years I coached cybersecurity teams, helping them collaborate across the globe. I appreciated the work, but I knew early on that a laptop-bound career wasn't for me. I wanted to be out in the world, seeing the fruits of my labour
So I made a pact with myself, every Sunday for a year was dedicated for me. No agenda, just permission to be curious. I tried different art forms, toyed with business ideas, let my mind wander without restriction. That's when I got deep into film photography. I'd walk the streets of my city, hyper-aware of every detail around me, shooting and developing rolls. I was fascinated with stained glass windows, there are so many where I live, and told myself one day I'd like try it out, take a workshop
Two years ago I moved to Texas for a work secondment, consulting for a large oil company. New city, not many friends, a lot of time alone, which honestly suited me. I knew the job wasn't a true reflection of who I was, so I leaned into that solitude. I looked back at my self across my life, what I naturally enjoyed doing if I had the choice, because I think that's where you find yourself in your purest form. I kept my Sunday commitment, but this time I was on YouTube, falling down rabbit holes of artisans around the world creating incredible work. I found a stained glass artist and that was it. Watched everything they made, learned the process inside out, started sketching my own designs in my spare time
When I came home, I started building. Small pieces at first, just getting familiar with the craft. I had enough saved to step back from work for a while, which I needed. Working in Oil & Gas had taken a lot out of me and I lost sight of myself for a moment. I took a sabbatical from work, started creating more, I put my work out into the local community, and the project inquiries haven't stopped since
A big misconception about finding your passion is that some people just get lucky. To me, that couldn't be further from the truth. It takes intention, time, patience, and humility. If your sole focus is making money on the side, I don't think you'll find it. But if your focus is play, exploration, and genuine curiosity, then that's a different story entirely

First time ever ‘vibe coding’ and crazy impressed with what Claude and I were able to make
Typically the designing process for my windows, especially the final render with glass types, was previously done on my iPad, and it was very tedious and time consuming. Now I have a app that I can just organize, drag and drop glass textures into my stencils, and then create a png to send to my clients

This is very real. Many artists I speak with have such a difficult time monetizing their work because they bounce from idea to the next. They feel that when a new idea comes to mind they have to take advantage of it immediately, but forget that they can just write it down and store it somewhere they can easily access until the idea is ready. This distracts them from a vision and then they wonder why they aren’t making progress towards their goal
I think having a business background really helped me personally stay focused on the most important things, while knowing how to organize ideas effectively
Just some thoughts because I see this so often from others

My friend is the COO of a tech startup and was showing me how he built 4 AI agents that work for him. He has 1 agent overseeing the other 3. The 3 agents work together and submit their work to the 1 agent, who proofreads everything before sending it to him. He used an AI to build these AI agents. He did all of with very little coding experience. Imagine what large companies will be able to do to displace workers

Thank you! The reflection is due to me encapsulating the window into a thermal unit, pretty much sandwiching the leaded window into between 2 clear panels for more security and insulation for the home

I rent out a window at a local arts market mainly to market myself and show past projects to get more work. Have been wanting to create small little motif’s and sell them, for those who don’t have the money or space for larger leaded windows

Is this for real? I use turpentine in my cement mix when I make my stained glass windows. It smells like something I shouldn’t be inhaling and I’m always worried about inhaling it as well

I lived in Houston for about a year in 2024. Whenever I told anyone I lived there they would talk with a ‘cowboy accent’ to me and make jokes about me being out in the country with the farm animals. It was comical but definitely not even close to being right. Texas is so huge, and I think people assume it’s just cowboys, guns and farmland everywhere. They forget that the state has the second biggest economy in the US next to Cali
