This Iran war shows an utter disregard for the lessons of 50 years of anti-American guerilla warware.
Of course, Iran was not going to have a conventional shooting war against US aircraft and ships. Instead, attacking the Strait and neighbours was the obvious response.

But I fear that abandoning either of the major parties ignores the massive institutional power they have.
Trump could only win because he took over the Republicans. Abandoning Labour leaves it wide open for corporate power to further corrupt it.
To me, the only solution for Labour or the US Democrats is to take over the party and pull it left. They must remain a big tent, so it will never be truly progressive. But 3rd parties won't get power. IMO

I'm certainly not arguing for fully centralised economic planning (eg Soviet style).
Instead, I think the central gov needs to perform a key role in enabling, direction setting and protecting against monopoly/oligarchy power. That will allow local economies to flourish.
But I resist the libertarian model (not that you proposed it) of a weak centre, which leaves weak localities at the mercy of destructive corporate and overseas powers.

The oil/gas oligarchy is one of the most powerful exploitative/extractive out there. To break it's power, we need distributed power generation - not only big "national" projects.
Gov plays a key role in funding this and building transmission lines. But we must break the hold of these power companies - who are key to the autocratic rise and destruction of the environment.

The model is broken, not because it is top-down, rather because it is an exploitative/extractive model designed to consolidate wealth in the hands of untaxed oligarchs.
The post-war world shows the tremendous potential of top down economics, when focused on growing the middle class and raising those in poverty.
We should focus on rebuilding that, rather than delegate decisions to even weaker "local" bodies.

It shows public pressure and democratic representation is working.
Compare to the Tories or American Republicans. "Firm control" of the party means the leaders do whatever their donors want regardless of party (or public) support.

No, IMO, the problem is that politics draws those seeking power, or worse those amoral people willing to use power as their donors direct.

The #GovShutdown is a preview of life after Dems win the House in the mid-terms.
Trump will embrace shutdowns to stop normal governance - and things will only be done through corrupt favors and contacts.
And the things he wants (military and ICE) will be exempted and taken from money allocated elsewhere.
#Dems need to prepare now - and realize this shutdown is just the first testing phase.

We need to give people a way out of MAGA. Anyone should be welcomed into the antifascist coalition whenever they are ready to join.
But like AA, we need a space for them to articulate what they did and how they can learn from it.

Allow me to posit one more theory on how Mandelson was appointed - that it was a "low cost" move to appease Trump.
It's clear the British strategy is to constantly stroke Trump's ego while actually giving him little. State dinners, friendly faces at the embassy, these things carry great weight with the #AmericanClownEmperor even though they are mostly symbolic.

Which acts, specifically?
Because Republicans seem just fine with masked, unbadged people beating brown people up in the street, then locking them away for weeks without due process.
...Or killing people in a boat rather than boarding it.
...Or revoking visas and deporting people to places they were granted asylum from
These all seem like political violence to me, and it is absolutely encouraged.
