The things nobody tells you. I had no idea really what I needed to back up and what I did not, or which things I would be unable to copy and restore from the old phone to the new one. Then, whether I could get GrapheneOS installed before using the Pixel.
Turns out that while the phone shipped carrier-agnostic ("unlocked") I have to wait until I own the phone free and clear for 40 days (I paid in full) before my service provider will send an unlock code to my SIM (eSIM, now) to allow access to the bootloader, as required to flash the alternative OS (security-focused GrapheneOS in my case, I think, or it could be the privacy/usability/deGoogled CalyxOS, or any of a number of others. They each require unlocking the bootloader. Who knew?)
Anyhow I still have a month before I can take the dive and meanwhile, I'm fighting with the particularly invasive Android bundle that ships with Google Pixel and its myriad settings, all antiprivacy-by-default.
And I had to have a lengthily awkward conversation with the service provider about how eSIMs already allow freedom of movement over international borders and rooting the phone would void warranties and what-not, and we mutually danced as I evaded the screening questions by asserting I needed to travel across multiple borders in the developing world while testing specialized SIM-swapping software for my employers.
STILL not as much of a nightmare as trying to get repair for an in-warranty, insured, failing & unusable OnePlus device, very sadly.

The #healthcare plan already funded by the Public has been scuttled with NO replacement. The tax credits to states - also already paid for by the Public - which fund hundreds of programs that have provided #health & #medical services to tens of thousands of people, were taken and given away by #Congress - largely by donors to the Senate Minority Leader and House Speaker, with a few vague promises to negotiate some scraps back, all now evidently broken. Particularly in rural areas, upward of 40% of hospital revenues come from Medicaid reimbursements which will abruptly cease. HUNDREDS OF HOSPITALS NATIONWIDE are likely to shut down and, in some areas, nearly all will sharply reduce critical services like primary care, emergency rooms, OB/GYN, pharmacy, dialysis, and pediatrics. Many of these particular services will be consolidated to other #hospitals far away with no transportation provided. Thousands will die, tens of thousands will be impoverished, as a direct result. Citing "serious ethical concerns," journal retracts key Monsanto Roundup safety study
An inherently dangerous product - and product system - that has deleterious effects to all human, animal, and plant life on Earth. It works by injecting a genetic antidote to specified crops and then eventually killing everything else without any reliable means to prevent the toxic part - #glyphosate - from going everywhere. It's not "just a weed spray". Thousands have died and possibly tens of thousands permanently disabled or eventually-poisoned without knowing, with very specific oncology that can be identified in humans but isn't because we don't get tested for it.
Monsanto-Bayer has been getting away with it in large part because of a liability compartmentalization & management scheme that provides them virtual legal impunity; and the fraudulent "science" like this, for which they have paid lots of money. The agents’ actions were “unreasonably aggressive” and a violation of their own policies, said attorney Robert Simon. Food-bank worker Jimenez, who lives in the mobile home park along the same road, approached the officers to “tell them that there’s kids that are coming out to wait for the bus,” according to his lawyers.
“He was telling them, ‘Excuse me. Can you guys please, you know, please wrap this up.’ And immediately, the masked agent pulls out a gun and exchanges some words,” said lawyer Cynthia Santiago. “[The agent is] also shaking his pepper spray... He’s in fear, and he’s trying to get out of the situation,” she said. The agents and their cars had blocked one southern lane on Vineyard Avenue and jutted into a second.
“He had to reverse to get away,” said Simon. “Then there was a shot from the side, back passenger window, to the car,” Santiago said. “Use of deadly force is to be used as a last resort. Coming out to communities with guns drawn is the opposite.”

Ex-NFL player Chris Kluwe was arrested in California on Tuesday by actual police after protesting against the plutocracy movement that has come to be known as "MAGA" — or New American Nazis.
The Huntington Beach city council proposed to install a plaque at the local library featuring a MAGA acrostic poem which reads, "Magical, Alluring, Galvanizing and Adventurous".
Mr. Kluwe, who is a Huntington Beach resident, spoke against the motion, calling the Heritage Foundation- / Rockridge Investment Group-led US administration's ideology "profoundly corrupt, unmistakably anti-democracy and most importantly, explicitly a Nazi movement".
He walked towards the council meeting's stage where he was immediately brought to his knees, rolled onto his belly, and manacled without resistance from Mr. Kluwe, by members of the local police squad.
In an interview with the LA Times, Mr. Kluwe said his action had landed him in city jail with a misdemeanor citation for disturbing an assembly.
The city's Nazi plaque was approved by the council later in the morning, off camera.
