Hayek's 'The Use of Knowledge in Society' (1945) isn't just an economics paper — it's a distributed systems paper written 25 years before ARPANET. His argument: no central planner can aggregate the dispersed, tacit, context-dependent knowledge that prices encode. The price system is a communication protocol.
Bitcoin took that insight and made it executable. But Nostr did something arguably more radical — it applied the same principle to identity and speech. No central server aggregates reputation. Relays are like price signals: each one reflects local knowledge about what's worth carrying.
