When I lived in CO, I saw more Mountain Chickadees than any other, though Black-capped were around. I once went into an art gallery and someone had painted a Black-capped, but the gallery mis-named it Mountain Chickadee. I pointed it out to the gallery owner and she was angry at ME and argued it WAS a Mountain Chickadee. I started to explain the physical difference and she just walked away in a huff. Oh well!

Good to know that somebody's media are talking about this. Ours doesn't, unless it's trump/ice-positive. Is it as bad here as they say? Yes. Violence and kidnaping are being normalized. Most of the people in this country either support our present state, or have NO idea about what's been going on for the last 10 years (yes, I count the first term).
I never thought I would welcome aging, but not a day goes by that I think "Damn, I'm glad I'm old."

His fee-fees were hurt by the fact that Renee was so calm and cool. A woman should NOT be that way. If he just wanted to kill someone, he would have killed her wife, who was provoking. But, no, he wanted that cool as a cucumber woman in the driver's seat, literally. So, he does what no officer is supposed to do, put himself in front of the vehicle. As a person with neuropathy in her feet, I feel for you. Gabapenten is usually what they order for it. Made me too dizzy and tired. I did buy some ice socks that help a lot, if you're willing to keep up with it and take up room in your freezer. The numbness is the worst thing; I look like a drunk when I'm walking down the street. And be careful where you step. I have a broken fibula and shoulder because of numbness.

I love teenage trick-or-treaters. They put a lot of effort into their costumes (at least the ones I've seen) and they're fully aware of how people think they're too old. BS. I loved the carousel. It's so creepy cool. You missed the Mustard Museum, the Hamburger Museum, the Fishing Hall of Fame (housed inside a giant Musky)! See that gondola-shaped thing hovering over a forest? Look closely, & you'll see people in it. It's the Infinity Room and it protrudes 218 ft. from The House on the Rock in Spring Green, WI; it's 154' high. With over 3000 panes of glass and a special viewing hole to look down into the forest, it's one of the attraction's most popular features. Some people crawl their way out there. Some won't go at all. It has no visible means of support. The house itself is fascinating.

She appears to be a Downy, with that small bill and small size. The bill on a Hairy is about the same size as its head and looks more like a weapon, while the Downy's is about 1/3 the size. Just my random Internet stranger opinion.

I've never grown plum or Roma tomatoes, but since I usually make tomato & marinara sauce, I thought I'd give them a try to see if they make a "meatier" sauce.
These are Amish Paste heirloom tomatoes, a cross between Marzanos & Roma.The one on the right is twice the size of a grocery store Roma. It weighs 5 oz. The one on the left is twice its size, 10 oz. They taste wonderful & the plant will keep producing 'til frost. Most of the ones on the plant are at least 1/2 a lb.

Green bean plants are masters of disguise. The stems, the vines, the curled leaves, even shadows, fool you when you're picking. You glean as much as you can, start walking away, look back and, crap, there are five or six more that you missed. The secret is to never look back.

A bear did $4000 of damage on my car's interior while looking for a bag of birdseed in the trunk. It opened all the (thankfully unlocked) doors w/o a scratch, then tore apart the backseat, twisting the frame metal like butter. The repair shop called it the Bear Car & everyone had to look at it. The Fed-Ex dude took pix to show his wife. It didn't get the seed and there wasn't a scratch on the exterior.

At long last. Tomatoes like full sun, but not blistering full sun every single damn day. As a result, it's taking forever for them to turn red. Sometimes I wonder if I should even bother to grow them, what with the watering, the pruning, fertilizing, blossom rot, etc., but then I get to eat ones like these and I wonder no more. The taste is unsurpassed.

If you're traveling in WI (quit laughing), avoid the Oshkosh area (like, duh) because this is the week of the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) Fly-In. It's like the 5000 year anniversary or so; Icarus was the first member. I think they should give it up, b/c no one has beaten his originality record to date. The small airport in Oshkosh becomes one of the busiest in the world this week. Not THE busiest. That record belongs to Epstein's island.

Wow, that was tough, a whole day without Mastodon yesterday.
Okay, it wasn't THAT tough, but unexpected. I got some gardening done, including searching every cabbage leaf for larvae that are eating them. I don't know how a cabbage moth got through the mesh the plants are covered with. I only found three teeny critters; there's probably more. <sigh> How do people manage keeping a whole row free of them? I just have three plants in a pot & that's hard enough.

Don't forget to factor in the wind when you're laying out future plans for veggie gardens, fruit trees, etc. This spring, our extremely prolific apple tree began blossoming, but then a super strong wind came through and blew all the blossoms away. I thought some would grow, but no, they have not. The squirrels, rabbits & many different birds depend on that tree for their winter food. I'm bummed, but not as bummed as they will be.

Our lawn guy weed whacked a 20' long row of wildflowers I planted early last spring and which produced many colorful, tall, bee-loving blooms all summer. AND HE SAW THEM ALL LAST SUMMER! Yeah, they looked sort of "weedy", but they were only five or six inches high.

With a cronically ill husband and multiple medical issues myself, going back to work is not an option. I'd definitely suggest to other seniors in my orbit to pool resources, living together, etc.
This drives me absolutely bonkers. "Entitlement" is NOT a bad word, it's been made into one by the repubs. We are absolutely ENTITLED to what we worked for all our lives.

I broke my face. The last time I fell, I broke my humerus. This time I did a literal face plant on concrete. I was bleeding from my forehead to my chin. The neighbor's tRump sign & stand keep blowing over & this time the sign has separated from the metal stand and it's lying on the grass. I choose to take this as a sign of things to come (see what I did there?). I'm pretty sure this is a female Monarch Butterfly. There were a couple of them around today, taking advantage of the wildflowers I planted (actually, more like tossed a bunch of seeds on some dirt). The bees love all the blooms, too. What I'm really curious about is the plant behind the butterfly. Five of them sprung up with the flowers, but there's no hint of any blossoms on these plants. Anyone have a clue? They're about 4 ft. tall.

You're making me hungry for muffins! I've had my blueberry muffin recipe on the counter for a week, but dealing with an over-abundance of tomatoes has taken over. Have you ever used dried buttermilk powder? Neither of us drinks buttermilk, so it always went to waste after a recipe or two. Now I just keep the dried stuff in the fridge (it keeps forever) and use it when necessary.

9/11 ... 2023. One year ago today, I had to have my best buddy put down. I never had any dreams about him until last night. In the dream, he was crazy about shrimp, especially the shells. (IRL, he didn't like anything but his boring dry food.) He was frenetic and doing a lot of zoomies. (Just like IRL.) He came to me when I called, also like real life; we called him our cat/dog. I will always miss my Gonzo. I just hope he visits my dreams more often.

She is lovely. All of the women on the maternal side of my family live well into their 90s. GM was 99, mother was 98, aunt 97; I have about 20 years to go if that holds true.
But look at your mom, leopard print and an air of wisdom about her. It's the sort of photo I'd expect to see on a book jacket; very writerly.

Oh, you can be sure they did! They probably figured they couldn't do anything about the name of the city anyway, so they may as well roll with it. Mathers seemed a bit embarrassed by it all.

I totally understand. I'm my husband's caretaker, too. Stay strong, but when you're not feeling up to it, take care of you, too. I think Summer must help with that, too.
