Went to sign up for a GDC Expo pass so I could pop in, check out the middleware and tools, and catch a few random folks.
There's no Expo pass this year. The grifters that run the show want you to pay for a full pass (>$1K) unless you go through a multi-day approval process for a discounted $649 pass after you prove you're indie enough.
So instead of $350-ish, Informa will get $0. I'll wander between a few key hotel lobby bars for that time instead and the exhibitors will lose eyeballs.

@nprofile…ljct My questions were based on voice actor use in video games -- projects were either all SAG or none based usually on the lead actor being required as celebrity or not.
All of it reminds me of the lack of unions for video game work and all the real problems like inconsistent credits, binge/purge employment, etc.

@nprofile…zlzn I’m asking because I expect 100% compatibility from Apple’s VT102 Tool for stuff like tmux. It was certified by DEC back in the day. AFAIK the only difference from a real VT102 is that the line printing start/stop sequences don’t generate pages properly for printing.

The HGST HUH721010AL4200 (10TB helium) drives I installed in 2018 are reporting only 5 months of runtime because even though the power-on-hours field is 32-bit, it clearly keeps an unsigned 16-bit counter because one extra bit would give the true value.
Either a bug in firmware A38F, or bad QA somewhere along the way.

@nprofile…v02f I should note that as my kid started playing Yotei, I went back and started Tsushima, since I was busy when it came out and I never got to it.
Finally Platinumed it a couple of weeks back. Still working on the Legends trophies, but man, that game scratched every itch I didn't know I had. It was awesome!

Collecting PII means I need to disclose that in my app description on the App Store and steward that information according a growing variety of laws around the planet. No thanks. Forcing me to collect that data is a horror show of amateur governing.

It’s time to rethink the IDE.
IDEs with bespoke project formats and mapping files around are done. That model worked well from 1984 to 2020 or so, but the traditional model with a build dependence graph of some kind (Makefile, etc.) that uses only the filesystem layout won.
Adding a column of AI chat was good for last year. That’s now over.
Now the coordination we need is among simultaneous AI-driven projects and rapidly switching between them as project manager, able to dive into details.

Congratulations to the folks at Bungie on the launch of this new generation of Marathon.
I’ve been enjoying it on my PS5 all day despite the lack of BOBs running about screaming “frog blast the vent core!”
As with the original, the only correct music to listen to while playing multiplayer is “Digeridoo” by Aphex Twin, but that seems to annoy your crew by drowning out team chat.

1. If your hub is tvOS, during acc setup all the names are generic like “Input Source 2” instead of what you offer. A few plugins on GitHub have hit this now for two years.
2. Janky workarounds for missing abilities like volumes that are absolute not up/down. I’m offering a fan or a lightbulb, with fans being less likely to be accidentally triggered by an “all lights” command from Siri.

Home Assistant removed a plugin instead of ever looking at the bug where I told them exactly what code was broken and was manually replying every time the bot suggested it was about to be closed for inactivity. Those bots are so disrespectful of people’s time spent reporting issues.

@nprofile…p3t0 FWIW I have a 2022 2 and most of my complaints are solved in current production. The only remaining ones are the cup holder spring tabs break easily and their AAOS still tells CarPlay that it has an ICE engine so I’m shown gas stations instead of chargers. Rear view is expected for a hot hatch-like shape. If it works for your vision (not mine) the rear view mirror can be swapped for the camera/screen one from EX40.
