For years, our surges have gotten lower. Could COVID be on its way to finally become a more predicable and endemic virus? I'll stay cautious, given Long COVID risks, but it would be nice to see infection risks continue to drop, wouldn't it?
Signs point to continued lower levels of surges--until and unless our low vaccination rate OR a significant COVID mutation causes a greater surge. 2026 will be an interesting bellwether year for #COVID19, I think.

Christians are attacking the Pope for saying we should care for the poor and not blame them.
The GOP leader of the House has the House adjourned for 77 out of the last 89 days to avoid swearing in a Democrat and prevent a vote to release the Epstein files.
The federal government has lied to judges three dozen times this year to prevent justice.

When COVID is surging (as it is now):
- No dining or drinking in restaurants and bars. (When COVID is low, I may go into emptier places at off-hours to avoid crowds.)
- Private socializing in homes or outside. Rather than meet people in crowded spots, we'll have a few friends over or go to their house. We also avoid socializing with people we know aren't being very careful.
Other things don't change, like masking, which I do regularly regardless of level.

Well, there was a well-recognized design flaw in several years' models. I, too, owned a Pinto. (If I recall, it was a 1980, the year they changed the design), and I liked the car.

People voted for Trump to raise prices. In his first hours, Trump rescinded Biden's rules that delivered lower prices for medications to those on #medicare and #medicaid. On day one, Trump is delivering higher prices. Yet, I don't see much outcry from Conservatives. It's almost as if this wasn't ever about inflation or prices.

The US SCOTUS just overruled a lower court and is allowing Virginia to purge voters immediately before an election, despite the 90-day quiet rule. All three liberal justices dissented. This is another right-wing attack on democracy, this time coming from the biased Supreme Court.
If we don't elect Democrats in Congress and the White House, we'll never restore integrity to the Supreme Court.

I'm not that surprised by the mask data. First of all, N95s aren't perfect--that 5% risk over the course of 40 hours a week of working accumulates. Second, many don't wear masks with a tight fit. And third, as you point out, even the "always" people take them off from time to time. Just like vaccines aren't a magic bullet, neither are masks. It's why we need new rules for safe air in workplaces and commercial spaces!

STUDY of #COVID19 infections in people who work outside the home:
Working outside the home was associated with 1.46x higher risks of infection. "American Indian/Alaskan Native, Black, and Hispanic/Latino participants were more likely than others to work in occupational categories with the highest odds of infection. Cases were less likely than controls to report always wearing a mask (31.9% vs. 41.5%) and wearing a KN95/N95/KF94 mask (16.8% vs. 27.2%) at work."
