I recommend these easy first steps to #DigitalSovereignty for an average user:

All of the above can be done on non free operating systems.
Start experimenting with #Linux on a spare computer or laptop. All recommended software works there as well.

#Linux question: Sometimes, I want to use a newer version of an #application than of the version that is provided as a #package in the #repository.
When I install a #flatpak with the latest version I get two similar icons for the application. Also, I do not know if the configuration of the package and flatpak version are shared. Or if data could get corrupted when mixing use of both versions.
Do you have recommendations or experience regarding this? Should I uninstall the package version?

Bankieren bij #ASNBank doe ik voornamelijk via de webbrowser met de #browsercode. Alleen grote bedragen kan zo niet. Daarvoor en ook voor identificatie moe(s)t in naar een kantoor. Ik moet nog overschrijfformulieren aanvragen.

In the context of #FOSS, #opensource software, I see often the word "alternative".
This word gives me a feeling of a second choice after the "real" thing.
For example: "Zammand is the open-source alternative for help desks".
Maybe it would be better to say something like: "Zammand is the open-source solution for help desks".
Or "solution", or "application".
What do you think?

Ik zou niet zeggen dat #Mastodon op zich een links speeltje is.
Ik denk dat mensen die zich bewust zijn van de #machtsconcentratie en beïnvloeding door #BigTech voornamelijk links-progressief zijn. En dat zij daar consequenties aan verbinden en dus naar een door #publiekewaarden gedreven platform gaan. Ieder is vrij om een meer rechts-conservatieve Mastodon-instance op te zetten.
Als ik Mastodon al zou categoriseren zou ik liever "progressief" dan "links" gebruiken.

Dat lijkt me heel frustrerend. Ik volg het thema #houtrook al vele jaren, en ik zie er gelukkig toch steeds meer aandacht voor.
De verkiezingsprogramma's voor de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen worden waarschijnlijk op dit moment geschreven.

Ik wil helemaal geen gebruik maken van Android (hoewel een volledige #opensource-versie misschien acceptabel zou kunnen zijn voor me, als #privacy is gewaarborgd). Ik wil kunnen bankieren zonder #appdwang. De #digipas en #browsercode vind ik wel acceptabel. Ik heb er geen probleem mee om een browser naar keuze te kunnen gebruiken.
Ik zou eens kunnen proberen of ik de app in #WayDroid werkend zou kunnen krijgen.

Vandaag met ASNbank-klantenservice gebeld en om een #digipas gevraagd. Die verstrekken ze niet meer aan particulieren. De persoon aan de lijn was begripvol toen ik uitlegde dat ik geen gebruik van Apple en Google wil maken. Mij werd verteld dat het mogelijk is om hoge overboekingen ook in de winkel (kantoor) van de #ASNBank te doen. Dan moet je een id meenemen (rijbewijs voldoet niet) en dan kan het bedrag worden overgemaakt.

The work on upgrading the operating system for the #Librem5 Linux phone is progressing well.
The work on this is funded by #Purism and people that have totally optional PureOS subscriptions.
The name of the official Purism #Linux distribution for the Librem5 is #PureOS.
The current version is #Byzantium, the next version will be #Crimson.

My idea about how #trade agreements should be done by the #EU: All products imported into the EU should adhere to current and *future* EU regulations. EU regulations should enforce #workerrights, #animalrights, #climate change protection, #environmental responsibility, #consumer rights and more.
All who adhere to good practices should be welcome to sell without tariffs.

Did you know that @npub1qy0…nsak is working towards a new release for the #Librem5 #FOSS phone?
The name of this new version is #Crimson. Crimson will be the next version of the PureOS #Linux distribution for the Librem 5.
#Purism only earns once money on their sell of a #phone, because Purism is not selling your data.
Since July 2024 you can take an optional subscription to advance the #PureOS development.
Since then there has been a monthly report on the progress.

Ik waardeer je inzet zeer. Ook je focus op digitale rechten!
Ik ben echter zeer huiverig voor de reflex om specifieke regelingen te maken voor mensen met laag inkomen. Uiteindelijk zijn dit allemaal kostbare, ingewikkelde en stigmatiserende pleisters.
Neemt idd niet weg dat mensen nú een probleem hebben door geldgebrek.
Maar ik zou ook altijd de structurele oplossingen noemen: #basisinkomen, hoger #minimumloon.

Lage internetprijs voor arme mensen?
Zorg dat mensen genoeg geld hebben, middels een #onvoorwaardelijk #basisinkomen. Dan kan iedereen voor zichzelf bepalen waar die het geld aan uitgeeft. Gaan we nu ook nog internetabonnementen inkomensafhankelijk maken? Nog meer complexiteit en geregel? Ik ben voor eenvoud en persoonlijke #vrijheid en #verantwoordelijkheid. En dat iedereen genoeg geld heeft voor de #basisbehoeften. Een onvoorwaardelijk basisinkomen dus.

This is what I roughly did on 2 Oct 2023. I unfollowed everybody except @joinmastodon.
Also I put a pinned tweet with a link to my mastodon account. And in my bio I put my #mastodon handle as well, together with the text:
"I'm not using Twitter anymore. I keep my account here to keep my handle and archive of messages. You can find me at #Mastodon:"
I also put up a nice background banner on my account (see below).

Last year I got a new #Librem5 mobile #Linux phone. #GPS on this new one works, contrary to the very early ones I had.
Today, I tracked for the first time a run with the #Jogger app. Jogger is a great app available via #Flathub (https://flathub.org/apps/xyz.slothlife.Jogger).
To get it working, I had to do a little tweak on my Librem 5 (https://codeberg.org/baarkerlounger/jogger/issues/8#issuecomment-1103201), but then it nicely found my location and tracked the run.

Absolutely. I made the change slowly, both in becoming vegetarian and later vegan. I was ~ 15 years vegetarian, before fully moving to being #vegan.

I'm still donating, but I also need Signal for Linux on ARM, because I use a #Librem5 as phone.
Also, it would be great if #MobileLinux devices could be used as the primary Signal device.
