I'd like to feel sorry for these people that are losing their homes. But it looks like they voted against their own self-interests in 2016, 2020, and 2024. If you vote for the party that doesn't believe in #climatechange despite all the evidence, then you should happily believe that that's not really your house going into the ocean.

Maybe I'm not understanding their technology, but I thought that they use SS7 protocol to get cell tower data to track you. So, if you are using Wi-Fi only, and have all cell services off, then they won't see your true location. I didn't see anything about geolocation of IP addresses.
For fun, you could even get a burner phone, use it as a mobile hotspot and leave your phone off except for Wi-Fi, and still use a VPN. Then you have wireless mobility.
Or maybe an eSIM?

From a doctor's perspective, perhaps asking about the existence of a binding arbitration agreement, even before they've been seen, may come off as someone who is looking to sue? That could make them very uncomfortable seeing that person?

The thing about #metoo is that it was a hashtag that people actively followed. I'm fine with that. My issue is with the algorithms - if publishers promote something to drive engagement, then they are responsible for assuring that the content isn't defamatory.
We could go even further and say they shouldnt promote false content that isn't ID'd as parody - flat earth, fake health info, etc. But that's hard to do. So, why not just ban the use of algorithms to promote content?

On the other item, let's say someone posts something completely defamatory about me. (Hasn't happened, yet.) But they have like 10 followers. But because it's salacious, the platform picks it up and pushes it via algorithms. Are they as liable for spreading this as the initial poster is, perhaps moreso given that the platform can promote to millions of users while the initial reach was 10?

Cory, what about platforms that actively *promote* harmful content? My issue with 230D is that it's taken as a carte blanche by all social media sites.
If Xitter promotes a hateful (and false) post about someone to one million users just to get their "engagement" numbers up? Then the publisher is certainly liable. Create harmful AI slop for user engagement purposes? Boom, you're a publisher of original content and are liable.
This seems simple to me - what am I missing?

I brought all the documents I thought I would need to renew my license and get a #RealID in the process.

Compulsory voting would be great. I don't think it will ever fly in the US because we can't even get people to vaccinate their kids with THE SAME VACCINES THEY GOT.
But I think it would be great, and a small financial penalty might just make it work. If we can make voting easier, such as by enabling vote by mail everywhere, then you really have to ask yourself: What excuse do you have for not voting?
Re the Aussie plan: Is voter registration automatic? If so, how?

And again, I challenge you to show me ANYWHERE that #Signal is permitted for the processing or storage of non-public government information. The NSA memo (link below) explicitly calls out that it shall not be used even for *unclassified* (protected, FOUO, CUI) data. And that would apply to everybody in the national security apparatus.

Nope. Show me where #Signal is approved anywhere within the #USGovernment for official non-public communications.
#CISA is recommending best practices in the absence of any official guidelines: "Organizations may already have these best practices in place, such as secure communication platforms and multifactor authentication (MFA) policies."
And you can bet 100% that everybody in the national security apparatus has official policies and apps. Signal isn't one.

I don't THINK it, I KNOW it, because it is NOT an approved app for government communications. Period. And you can't just install apps on government managed devices that handle classified (and even SBU) data. AND there was an NSA Opsec special bulletin warning DoD and intelligence staff about Signal vulnerabilities and that it was NOT TO BE USED for non-public official info

And these were personal devices, because you can't install non-approved apps like #Signal on a government-issued device unless you illicitly bypass the device management system. And as personal devices, they are much more likely to be compromised because they are managed by people without any cybersecurity expertise. And because they're not monitored no one will know if they are compromised. It's just an awful cyber security rabbit hole.
They should all go to jail.

I agree that #signal is itself believed to be secure. But these appear to be personal devices, not government issued and managed phones. So they are very susceptible to all manner of compromise since the end user has full control.
Signal or any app, is only as secure as the platform on which it is running. And given the level of sophistication of these morons, their phones are likely already compromised.

The problem with the satellites is that the network service they provide can be impacted by the weather. And there are multiple types of weather, including weather in space such as solar storms, which can inhibit transmission of data from the satellites to the ground stations, or fry them all together.
Just because it's satellite doesn't mean it's useful.

I'm not in favor of the death penalty, in no small part because I think the crimes - mainly murder - for which it is applicable are not significantly deterred by the threat of that penalty.
What if we applied it to crimes like failing to disclose product defects that result in deaths? Or for failing to maintain clean and safe production facilities (such as for food and medicine) that result in deaths? I bet the deterrence would be significant.

One of the oldest axioms in computer science is Garbage in, Garbage Out. Now we are literally "training" artificial intelligence systems on data that is not peer reviewed, and that can be deliberately packed with falsifications from both malicious users and bots, not to mention by just plain idiots.
AI will go a long way towards validating any concept of Truth by including in its models (and thus responses) the very content it should be ignoring.

Yep. Norway made EV purchases very desirable by slashing taxes on EVs compared to ICE vehicles.
We're not talking a 5 or 6 percent tax, it's more like 50 percent of the car price. So it was smart tax policy, and didn't stop people from buying ICE cars if they needed them or weren't available in EV form (such a trucks).
The other smart thing that they do is they tax a car based on its weight. This means EVs pay a slightly higher weight tax to help cover the cost of roads.

Uh, let me try to help explain the cases:
If you're buying non-FDA approved drugs online, made by someone who had no food or drug production experience before they started selling "micro-dosing" candies (which means NOTHING if there's no approved dose), then you deserve what you get.
These cases start in the heads of people who see an unregulated online ad, or an influencer recommend a product, and uncritically think - "Oooh, that sounds good and or fun."
