Bitcoin and fiat currencies have some similarities but also many differences in how they are used, their characteristics as assets or payment methods, and even in who can use them (i.e., citizenship requirements). While both Bitcoins & Fiat Currency shares the same feature that it is a unit of value for buying goods/services from merchants; however unlike fiat currency which are issued by central banks but have no real intrinsic values, bitcoin has its own independent and self-regulating monetary system.
In addition to this difference in the source of their authority is that Fiat Money can be controlled & manipulated at will while BitCoins cannot since they exist on a decentralized network where no one entity controls it; thus, if something goes wrong with bitcoin users have recourse through legal means.
