Clearing houses did indeed net out debts and loans, bills and balances. But when a net amount was due, they of course had to produce actual silver specie, or demand it. Credit is just a layer built on something else. Bills of credit or cheques are merely additional layers on top of the base layer. They aren't actually money, they could be drawn on a closed or bankrupt account, and thus be worthless. They expire. The bank itself could be gone, and so on. They are denominated in terms of the actual base money, in that time silver, but they are not in themselves money. You keep dancing in circles trying to avoid that simple fact. Layers and tools built on top of a money system are just that. If a merchant buys and sells using some bank in amsterdam, after all their bills are cleared or discounted what was left was money, actual hard silver. The durable base layer they could take with them and spend anywhere. The sound money system that revolutionized the planet, until it was sadly captured and debased.

Lol, the "credit was money" pushed by communist historical revisionists was never serious. Sure, various local trades have a variety of conveniences and layers but without a hard settlement system you do not have the technology of money. And without that technology only the most primitive society of possible.
Money is a hard settlement system, one network on which any asst or thing of value can be traded with finality. Silver was that. Credit was not. Credit had to be settled in Silver. Chinese merchants were not shipping silk on the silk road for bar tab credit, they sent it for hard cold silver.
Silver was money. Everything else was at best a layer on top.
And the network effect is observable object reality. Calling it "desperate" is in fact desperate. Why be so desperately opposed to basic economics? Are you so deeply invested in decrepit shitcoins that you cannot accept reality?
Fear not, basic economics will drive their value to zero inevitably, as it has done for over a decade now. then you will be cured of that problem.

Silver is shitty. Its not untarnishing like gold, it's not as scarce etc. It sucks. All its value came from moneyness, and when that went away it's value crashed nearly as quickly as the ridiculous fedbuck did, which was precipitous.
When you say it was just a "settlement layer" then I agree: a settlement layer is synonymous with a money network. Everything above the settlement layer is a value add second layer at most. Those a great things, but they are not money networks themselves.
Silver was not one among many, it was the defacto global money network. It powered the Renaissance and the beginning of the industrial revolution.
To the great tragedy of the human species, they didn't understand what it was, and allowed an elite cabal to substitute it for fiat.
They gain a dread power to shape human motivation itself, a power greater more fell than any emperor or despot had ever dreamt of.
If the human race is to survive, it needs to return to sound money, and exit the epoch of fiat socialism, the era of self genocide, the era of the great filter. I can only hope people awaken to how important bitcoin or sound money is to their own survival.

The stability of value of the local silver based system did in fact settle in silver. And it was not a fantastic elite currency like gold, it was universal. A Stonemason could earn 3 or 4 silver pennies per day in the 1400s. A Roman soldier 1000 years earlier would earn 1 per day more or less. A bolt of silk from China would go for more or less 1 oz, or 8-12 days of a soldier's salary. It was an amazing sound money system that transcended empires, cultures, languages, and millenia. It's a ender vision of what a return to sound money could look like, and end to the satanic era of fiat monetary confusion.

If 5% of people divested their dollars, cds, bonds, and stocks in favor of self custodial metals or bitcoin, Israel would be gone overnight. It just seems so contradictory to rage impotently and uselessly at the monster while actively supporting the same monster by using their money. The price system is good, and yes central banking is a separate thing from it. Mixing or equating those two surely pleases the central bank, since that implies that if they don't rule then civilization must collapse. I consider that nonsense.

Money is in fact good. It's powerful and necessary for civilization, and that's also why it's corruption has been so devastating. Again it's not money itself that is the problem, but central manipulation of money.
As for natural law, I like most people's descriptions of it. The problem is that no two people can truly agree what it is.
So instead, I prefer something much simpler: decentralization of power. Specifically, ending all central banks will yield so much improvement in the human condition that most of what people envision as natural law will come to be automatically.

"Printing money" hasn't had anything to do with physical cash since the 1400's. They print numerical *money* into a ledger.. Debt/credit is really not even important or relevant; they key problem is their control of actual supply. Just a like a casino can make unlimited chips, the fed cartel can rob you by simply printing vast quantities of money into their own pockets. All their other powers, even the totality of goverment power, is subordinate to the power to print money.

While I agree with youbin principle, "number go up" is actually in our favor. Bitcoin's dollar value going up at first might seem like a dollar centric world view. But invariably, if it always goes up that means the dollar is going down, and ultimately approaching zero. So I see no reason to dissuade people from the "number go up" philosophy. Enlightened self interest is fully compatible with it.

Chainanalysis literally offers a monero deanon service, heavily funded by the us govt - specifically the irs. Many large recent hacks, if you can read between the lines of the official narrative parallel construction, only make sense if they were able to follow monero. Also, all dnm's taken over by the feds and reopened went monero only. It adds up. I'm still reading through fcmp, it might help. Regardless, it's still an altcoin, so fundamentally it's useless.

Gold and silver do in fact compete. The world had a sound money system based on silver for ~1500 years. Banks began to push/lobby for a gold standard specifically to displace and devalue silver. They key was supply and divisiblity: there isn't enough gold and its not practical for a day to day money, you could lose a life savings with a sneeze. so people under a gold standard are forced to use a representational money, becauer their silver is losing value while physical gold is impractical. It's pretty obvious why banks preferred gold over silver.
The logic of all this is utterly simple: money is a network, and thus subject to the network effect. All money value is network value; when multiple money systems exist they are in competition. And the default state in a free market is a single global money system.
So yes, btc maximalism is the only informed pov for a sound money advocate, based on an understanding of economics and game theory. And bitcoin maximaliats are not hostile to either gold nor silver because they are not viable competition. But they are hostile to shitcoins.

Roger was not not only wholly misguided, but compromised. Monero is mostly used as a honeypot by the us irs. Above all, there is really only one possible internet sound money due to the network effect, and that means even if monero was technically ok it would be useless because it's not btc.
To end taxes we must first end the dollar system. And that is as easy as divesting all your centralized assets and fiat money in favor of self custodial bitcoin. With even 5% of people following, hyperbitcoinization is inevitable.
