Long CI times are a common headache, and let's be honest, tweaking pipelines is tedious. 😏 Almost every team has this task buried in their backlog. With AI agents, it's finally time to fix it. Bring this up at your next team meeting!

"Errors in production are expensive. Downtime costs real money."
Gordon Cooke learned this the hard way. His team rewrote a Scala service into Java, hoping for lower costs, easier hiring, and faster time to market. It completely backfired into far more bugs, a bigger team, and higher maintenance bills.
Paying a talent premium up front is just buying insurance against broken software.

My favorite talk from Scala Days 2026 was about baking refinement types right into the compiler.
Unlike libraries like Iron or Refined, it adds a built-in solver that verifies logic and math across multiple variables at compile time with zero runtime cost.
Moving from simple checks to full verification is how Scala's type system should evolve to constrain LLMs - AI code won't compile unless the math holds up.

Even though Scala is niche, I still think it's the most AI-ready language. Martin Odersky's Scala Days keynote shows why 👇

Scala 3.10 is here 🎉
This release cleans up legacy syntax, stabilizes strict equality pattern matching, and brings several new previews and experimentals.
Here are the key highlights:
- `with` type operator is now an error
- Java records pattern matching support
- `//> using dep` now works in the REPL
- Preview: referenceable package objects, relaxed lambdas, and unroll default args
- Experimental: inline traits and agentic spec strings
I already played with relaxed lambdas. I will look into the other new features once I get back from Scala Days. 🙌

So the new optional/error type T?E was approved for initial implementation. There were times when other languages copied #Scala, but recent direction feels like it is going the other way around. Instead of improving and unifying what we have, we introduce more and more fragmentation.

✅ Bazel-compatible caching system
✅ Faster startup times with the native-image sbtn client

Regarding yesterday's meetup, an interesting project was presented: dapr4s. 💡 It combines the Safe #Scala initiative and DAPR's durable runtime abstraction.
This concept offers the cleanest and most reliable approach to building distributed systems I've ever seen. It moves all infrastructure implementation details away (retries, observability, database), leaving just the pure business logic tracked by capabilities.
It's hard to explain everything in a single post since the presentation lasted nearly two hours (and had 89 slides! 😀), so check out the repository examples if you're curious 👇

If you're forced to use Python, read this article to help control its dynamic nature and reduce unexpected runtime surprises. It can't give you full Scala-level type safety, but it's a start to keeping your codebase sane. #python 👇

2026-03-09 09:21:20 UTC

I used to think LLMs would make #Python and other mainstream languages dominate forever. But if AI is writing the code, you don't need a language just because it's easy for beginners or hiring. You don't even need to fear refactoring anymore.
What you really need is a language that catches the AI's mistakes. You need strong compilers and strict types (like #Rust or #Scala) to act as safety nets when the AI messes up.
This article changed my perspective 👇

Three tips when starting with FP in Scala:
👉 Use IO everywhere instead of the generic F[_]
👉 Focus on using existing typeclasses rather than creating your own from scratch
👉 Consider using Tapir to bypass the initial learning curve of http4s

There's a lot to be excited about in the upcoming Postgres 18. My favourite improvements are:
✅ UUID v7 for time-ordered, index-friendly IDs
✅ io_uring for major async I/O improvements
✅ Index skip scans for more efficient queries based on composite indexes https://youtu.be/yIaE9lONIVI #postgres

Great video on bringing the Result type to React/TS. This is exactly why I'm not worried about the future of Scala - when powerful concepts like this get adopted everywhere, your skills become more valuable and transferable. https://youtu.be/VcOIz7tOBoM #react

This comes in handy if you don't want to pollute .gitignore files with your weird text editor settings. https://devtips.stribny.name/p/the-use-cases-of-global-git-excludes

Unpopular opinion: Instead of teaching sorting algorithms, binary trees, or time complexity, universities should teach things like retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, or observability.

What kind of macro sorcery is it that Ducktape now supports named tuples even though it still runs on Scala 3.3? 😀 #scala https://github.com/arainko/ducktape/releases/tag/v0.2.10

💡 Did you know that in Intellij, you can navigate to an implementation of the given by pressing `Cmd+Shift+P`? If you use IdeaVim, you can remap the shortcut to something like this: `nmap gt <Action>(Scala.ShowImplicitArguments)`

IntelliJ 2025.2 with the Scala Plugin is out! 🎉 Some of the new features include:
- support for named context bounds, e.g., def reduce[A: Monoid as m](xs: List[A]): A
- highlighting for duplicated field names in a named tuple
- support for referenceable package objects

After a few rides with autopilot on, I found that the car can keep itself in the middle of the lane much more accurately than I can. Anyway, I wonder if I can get used to "not driving". It's so scary! 😀 #autopilot
