Japan just made a major move. The government officially classified crypto as a financial instrument and backed plans to cut the maximum tax rate on crypto profits down to a flat 20%.
This isn’t a small headline.
Japan is one of the largest financial markets in the world. When they start treating Bitcoin like an asset class instead of a payment tool it opens the door for institutional money that couldn’t touch it before. ETFs, pension funds, asset managers — they all need regulatory clarity before they move.
Japan just gave them that clarity.
Watch for ETF inflows out of Japan to start building. This is the same playbook the US ran before the spot ETF approval in 2024 — regulatory recognition first, institutional capital second, price follows.
Bitcoin doesn’t need everyone to adopt it at once. It just needs one major economy at a time to open the door.
