#ScribesAndMakers 4 Sep: Reverse of last month's question: if e-books stopped being produced, how much would you miss them?
A nightmare. Just plowed my way through 10/12 books over the last couple weeks. A series, and another from the same author. Something light, simple and wonderful for my state of mind.
That wouldn't been possible bevor ebooks. The accessibility, the easyness to read wherever I am, not caring for light, adjusting the font size...
I never want to be w/o ebooks ever again.

#ScribesAndMakers – 1Sep. It's September. List 7 things about your creativity (accomplishments, goals, etc.) ⁣
1. I've written over 30 stories
2. I've self-published the majority.
3. I do want to get lost in writing again, but I'm not sure this is the time.
4. I'm teaching myself how to play piano.
5. Am thinking about taking up a drawing/painting course
6. My aunt called yesterday to tell me she liked my book (and found typos)
7. some stories of mine will never be published.

#ScribesAndMakers 31/08: Choose an adverb to sum up how your month went
Relaxedly.
Which was nice for a change.

I've got the bare bones of a story in my head. Unsure about the setting though. It might be fantasy, but I want it to be different from my usual spiel. Something new.
So, I'm delving into myths and folklore from non-European, non-Christian/Greek/Roman/Nordic settings. Food for thought.
It might come to nothing, but at least it's there.

#ScribesAndMakers – 26 Aug. Describe how it feels to be "locked in" to your work.
Every free thought is about the story. Fingers aren't fast enough. Back pain will be ignored as long as possible. Eating and drinking becomes secondary. Every day free for writing is a gift.
Love it when that happens.
Family and friends: Less so 🤪

#WritersCoffeeClub – 8th Jul. What's the last thing you read that motivated you to write?
To be honest - the last thing I read that motivated me to write was a piece of fanfiction I wrote earlier this year. Reading it yesterday motivated me to finish the piece.
Not sure this counts, but it is what happened.

Don't know if this is working. I find it pretty hard to describe a mood from the posts of you all.
Maybe that heat is frying my brain.

2026-06-27 07:45:23 UTC

#WritersCoffeeClub 27. C&R: Describe your opening scene without using your text. Everyone: Mood?
A granny tells her smallest grandchildren stories of the Sisters to distract them from the attack on their farm. Enter her 13yr old grandson to get them out; the house is on fire. Chaos, smoke, a falling beam - they barely make it into a chamber, the boy tries to open the windows. Small kids are dead and Granny's body gives out just as a hand reaches in and pulls boy out.

Update: Today, I went to the last bookstore and that one was even better. Had a long talk with the owner about books. I wants to read #FridaVonHameln in his vacation the week after next and told, if the conditions are met, he'd order a whole bunch and put them out on the table for local history! He said there's a niche at the moment! I cannot tell you how proud and happy I am today. It's almost scary!

2026-06-22 15:00:37 UTC

I did something today that was way out of my comfort zone: I went into the four local bookstores and told them about #FridaVonHameln. My heart was going a mile a minute and it was so hard not to turn around and run.
But it was worth it: Although the chains told me no right away, one of the others took a copy and promised to take a look.
I totally forgot to tell them that I got an English translation as well but - I did it!

#WritersCoffeeClub 7. Do you avoid expressions, idioms, colloquialisms, or embrace them?
I embrace them as long as they fit. I do avoid certain expressions in historical or epic fantasy settings, though.

2026-04-23 09:33:35 UTC

#WritersCoffeeClub 23 April: What are some form conventions you disregard?
I use adverbs.
I also use dialogue tags when necessary. That is a hill I'm willing to die on.

#ScribesAndMakers 26/1: Tell us about a memorable live music experience.
I was at a concert of Roxette, some years ago. The lead singer, Marie, had a brain tumor (had undergone surgery and was in remission at the time). In the middle of a beloved oldie of the group, her voice gave out.
The entire concert hall (some 15.000 people) stepped in and sang for her. I had tears in my eyes.
RIP, Marie.

Good morning to you too (well, it's lunch time here)!
First, I look at the story - is it something I'm comfortable with, that I would like to publish? Can I do it justice?
Second, I am very upfront with my authors about what I can and can't deliver. I don't buy stories but work on a shared royalties program. I take care of getting the story edited and out via the agreed channels. But my marketing budget is very small.
Not everyone agrees to that.

Excellent question! Research is very important for me. I do the bulk for historical fiction while I still bounce ideas around in my head - location, time, events or people I can include. While I write, I still have to look up certain things, but the bulk is done.
And yes, I prefer to have seen the places - although that is always time relative, of course. For this one, Hameln hasn't changed that much, but e.g. Berlin, for the last one, changed a lot.

#Phantastikprompts 03.12.

#ScribesAndMakers - 23 Nov. What's the lowest number of readers/viewers/users of your creative work that you would consider cause for celebration?
This may sound corny, but one person who likes it is always a cause for celebration.
Sure, I very much enjoyed the time when a book of mine was ranked Number 1 at Amazon (even though it was in free downloads), but EVERY reader counts.
Please leave a review, btw. Or at least a star (or several 😇)

#WordWeavers 22 If any artist, dead or alive, could create your cover, who would you choose?
I want Leonardo! Can I have Leonardo, please?
(On second thought, it might never get finished. Maybe I switch to Michelangelo and just put up with the grumpy attitude and the smell).

2025-11-17 08:09:52 UTC

#ScribesAndMakers – 17 Nov. Tell us about a memorable performance of a play you've attended.
Years ago, I went with a friend to a performance of the Life Ballet and saw a young dancer dance his own death. That was so intense, it sparked the birth of a character in my brain - Flo of #TheChildrenOfAngels
I even made him look like that performer, down to the very clothes.
Will never forget.

#WordWeavers Aug 13: On a scale from 1 to 10, how safe is your world?
With 1 being a huge meteorite approaching really fast,
and 10 being the place I live now, only without crime and assholes,
a 4. Shuy's just been abducted, Naynah basically locked up, and nobody but Kyz and Teilin gives a damn.
But at least they got a roof over their head and basic food and water. And no imminent death looming either (or...?)

#WordWeavers 12. On a scale from 1 to 10, how comfortable is your MC's life?
With 1 being locked up in some soggy dungeon in chains,
And 10 being lunging somewhere on plush cushions, without a worry regarding food, drink, and freedom for himself and his friends,
Kyz is currently at a solid 3.

#PhantastikPrompts 2. Juli

#PennedPossibilities 629 — How did you break into publishing? (If you’re already published, of course.)
I was first published by an indie publisher. When things went sideways with the owner (the CEO was wonderful, the owner less so), I pulled my books and decided to create my own tiny company, which is mostly a one person show. Said sweet CEO helped me a lot.
Basically, I'm a self-publisher who helps some others, less technically inclined authors, too.
And here I am.

I feel I need to clarify my take on likes & reposts - I DO know that mastodon works differently & there is no algorithm.
I hardly read the general feed but go by hashtags. That keeps me sane in this insane world. I also repost sparingly for reasons too long for this toot.
So, if you get a ⭐️ from me, that means I hear you, I like, you're not screaming into the void.
And if the toot impresses me much for whatever reason, I repost.
Opinions?

#WritersCoffeeClub Dec 31. What were the big writing moments for you in 2024?
My participation in #WritingMonth for the very first time. It was an insane ride which lasted six weeks and at the end stood a novel of 130k.
Granted, it was exhausting at times and wouldn't have been feasible with my former full-time job. It was also the first time I tracked my progress that way (not sure if I'll ever do that again).
But I'm ending the year with #GabrielZurmuehlen.

#WritingMonth Dec 4
I ... might be done.
Little drama and final resolution, due to some unexpected spare time today. This isn't polished yet and doesn't feel like the final words, more like a brain dump - but all I wanted to tell is there.
This doesn't feel real.
It probably isn't.

Yes, most definitely. But I will also enjoy a slower pace in December. I know the stress was self-made - no one forced me to write like a maniac.

Surprisingly, it wasn't crap what I wrote yesterday.

#WritingMonth Day 16
Slept like 🤬🤬🤬 last night and was dead tired today. Managed to build up to and start writing a pivotal scene, but not sure of it isn't all rubbish. I can't read that tonight.
Why do I sleep so terribly? It's like my brain is lacking the right synapses.

Do I need to put a CW on this?

#WritingMonth Day 8 - I'm not that fast anymore and didn't quite get back into the flow. However, I reread the entire thing and did some desperately needed editing.
