I was in a co-parenting situation with my daughter most of her life. She lived with me (during high school) full time for 4 out of her first 18 years.
The teenager years kinda sucked while they were happening, but in retrospect, I think both boys and girls go through it.
They think they know better. It manifest differently for boys and girls, but it's the same thing. That and put her in an all girls school if you can swing it. That's what we did. 👀

My daughter turns 29 this year & became a mom. She's a completely different person. One I've always been proud of, but different in a personal growth sort of way.

🤣😅😂 the first draft of this note started to get into all of that. But I rethunk it.
But yes, you are correct.
This city is emblematic of a failed monetary policy regime that plagues most blue jurisdictions in the U.S.
It's not their credit card, so they have no qualms making up celebrations and spending our money on stuff that 90% of the taxpayers couldn't give 2 f@cks about.
But I won't get started.
While I do still have a home there, my primary address changed last year. All they get (for now) is my property taxes. And I'm working on plugging that leak from p&l.

#Dogstr #2 the female Corso has 2 names. Most people IRL think her name is Wiggles. But it's not. That's the word I use when I'm speaking about her and not too her.
When I need her to focus, there is a secret name (command).
She is the first dog that I've done this with. I also began doing the same with #3. But due to current circumstances, it's likely not going to stick with #3, the way that it has with #2.
I decided after my last dog (Flako) that my next dog and I should speak our own language that makes no sense to other people. sometimes when in public spaces, I had to whisper commands to him, which can draw unnecessary attention. Not a fan of attention 90% of the time.
A dogs name is a command. The more people that can command your dog, the more chances there are for misbehavior and miscommunications.
This note was inspired by my mom's neighbor. Cool dude and dogstr has accepted him into the fold. But he asked this morning if she had hearing problems, bc sometimes Wiggles doesn't respond to Wiggles. 👀 My response...she is probably just tired. I felt bad for about 10 seconds for lying to him.

I had an interesting text exchange with mini-me last night.
She wanted to let me know that she's following me on Twitter (yes, I'm still on twitter).
I thought to myself, well that's odd, bc I'm anon on twitter. Well, not anon to you lot, but anon to my normie friends and family.
Additionally, I didn't know she was on twitter. Shes always been active with her IG community, but never knew her to be on twitter. And she has a baby now too, how does she have time for tweets.
So, I asked her to prove it. And she sends me a screenshot of my profile and she's right, it was me.
I immediately went into a panic. Hopped on twitter and began scrolling through my entire timeline (over 10 years of stuff) to see if I've ever posted anything she might process as hurtful. I don't find anything.
But to all you anon nostr nyms, be mindful that this could happen to you too.
You can't really delete nostr notes and that's both a big and a feature.

Missed Opportunity: A Lunch Date in Florida
As I sit down to write this #Nostr note, I can't help but think about the missed opportunity that was my lunch date just a few hours ago. Florida the Sunshine State has its charms, but for someone like me who lives in Pennsylvania, it's not an ideal place to call home - at least, not permanently.
My mom moved to Florida from New York some 30 years ago and due to recent decline in her health, I've been staying with her to help manage her care. It's a taxing situation, but one that requires my presence. Amidst the chaos of caregiving, I had the opportunity to go on a lunch date with a woman I met through our shared love for Cane Corsos.
Our initial interactions were centered around our dogs and their playdates, which was all about the canines' wellbeing. It wasn't until this particular lunch date that we finally got a chance to focus solely on each other. No mom, no dog and no cell phones.
The conversation flowed easily, the venue was delightful, and the weather was perfect for a post-lunch walk on the beach, which we did. Oh and found a cool beach spot that I can bring the dogstr to in Deerfield Beach. 👍🏽
I digress....
So why did I feel like I had missed an opportunity? As I reflected on our conversation during my drive home, it dawned on me that I might have unintentionally given off the wrong impression. Here's how my thoughts went:
"I'm over 50 years old and live with my mom."
"I don't have a 'real' job - at least, not in the traditional sense."
"I can't wait to get back home (to Pennsylvania) and leave this place."
It's not that I'm ashamed of these facts; they simply aren't the most appealing aspects of myself. And while our conversation was engaging and enjoyable, I couldn't shake the feeling that my circumstances may have overshadowed any other potential connections.
As someone who values authenticity, I know that honesty is crucial in relationships - be it romantic or platonic. But sometimes, there's a fine line between being honest and oversharing. In this instance, I wonder if I inadvertently steered the conversation towards my caregiving role and life circumstances, thus creating an impression that wasn't entirely accurate.
In retrospect, I realize that I should have focused more on our shared interests, like our love for Cane Corsos and Florida's beautiful beaches. Instead, I allowed my current reality to take center stage, potentially scaring off any romantic prospects before they even had a chance to develop.
So, what can we learn from this missed opportunity? For one, it's essential to strike a balance between being open and honest with others while still presenting the best version of ourselves. A thing I know, but hadn't really thought of our lunch as a date, until was basically on my way home after our date.
And for those of us that find ourselves in unconventional or challenging circumstances, like caregiving, it's crucial to remember that our lives are multifaceted - and so are our interests.
In the end, I hope this experience serves as a reminder to be more mindful of how we present ourselves to others and to seek out meaningful connections that bring joy to both parties involved. After all, life is too short for missed opportunities - especially in a state like Florida where the sun always shines.
This may all be a manifestation on my mind. My brain does these mental gymnastics sometimes and it's usually unwarranted. So maybe my post mortem assessment is entirely off. We'll see where it goes from here.

I had dinner with a family elder last week.
He reminded me that my daughter will not carry our family name, nor will my grandson.
It was a subtle comment, but speaks volumes about some conversations/thoughts that may be going on.
My immediate thought was that he was so far wrong on both assertions bc my daughter is not yet married (and she's got no pressure from me or her partner to get married). But I didn't tell him that.
I responded, maybe you're correct, but does it matter these days?!
Their are many males in our family to carry on the name if that is his concern.
They sell gene kits at the pharmacy to tests for these sorts of things now?!
We now have protocols like #Nostr that can be used to track family trees (unalterably) if and when internal family documents artifacts were ever lost.
And if we wanted to rely on government records, don't we all have government ID's now?! Thinking SSN. Why is the name important to him?!
Some additional context;
My niece started her first week at a university this week. She doesn't have to find a job her first year. As a side project and source of income, she's been commissioned by members of the family to combine the broader family documents, family tree artifacts and other projects into one larger, organized and catalogued repository.
Great project for a teenager, driving some lower time preference type questions. Both good and bad.
All that to ask myself "do I care?!"
None of his responses to that question compelled me either way on the matter.

My thoughts this morning as I sip a delicious cup of coffee while nostr'ing, is that I really APPRECIATE YOU ALL.
This is an amazing community.
In some ways I want it to stay this way forever and not become like the old places we have all opted of. While simultaneously hoping the world had more #Nostr in there lives.

You are both correct, and there are ways for my mom and I to maintain our dietary perculiarires/sovereignty when with the broader family without influencing or drawing needless attention to how much rice or plantains we put on our plates vs how much meat and legumes are on the plate.

It would be nice if someone (hint hint 👀) wrote a book describing how that looks in a modern family from day to day. I think there are many that would benefit from these types of experiences.
It's on the list of topics I'd like to write a book about some day when I get bored.

🙏🏽 I've bookmarked this note so that I can list the meds tomorrow, time permitting.
As for Mom's diet, it's this;
Breakfast = 1.5 hard boiled eggs. A sprinkle of black pepper, tumeric, a pinch of kimchi, no salt. A half of a banana and a decaf coffee small, black, no sugar, no cream.
Lunch = fruit smoothie. I rotate different colored fruits every 2-3 days.
Dinner =
A crock pot.
bone broth.
fresh vegetables. different veggies seasonally, locally sourced, and a can of different types of fiat beans.
Seasoning (no salt).
Protein changes every 3rd day which is how long my crockpot lasts. I rotate between, white meat, read meat, bone meat, muscle meat, organ meat (usually beef liver), or fish every 3 days when the pot empties. Protein is always grass fed, free range or wild fish.
So every week the two of us go through 3 pots of (I call it fuel) food.
The only difference between Mom's diet and mine is that I eat more, I add salt to my servings, my coffee is not decaf and I eat all of my food for the day between 2-6pm depending on my schedule for that day.
Exceptions are when my family comes over and cook. Which is usually a Saturday or Sunday type of event.

I don't know how I would measure the impact sunlight has on her health. I for the most part (probably selfishly) encourage it bc I (moi) feel better when I'm getting sunlight. So hoping it has the same effect on her. Possibly me projecting 👀🤣😂😅.
I'm glad you found this note encouraging and I wish a better health for you and the Mrs.
I have solid reasons for being of the opinion that obesity and diet is the root cause of a large majority of our health problems.
It can take months and years to repair the damage our diet inflicts upon us, but of I am of mind that a lot of the damage can be repaired over time. The younger we are the easier it is for our bodies to repair the damage.

Five months ago my mom suffered a series of strokes that resulted in paralysis on her right side, wheelchair bound and non-verbal.
This is in addition to being previously diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression and she was also about 60lbs overweight.
To address all these pre-existing conditions she was actively prescribed 23 prescriptions.
Today, my mom is:
She is still non-verbal, but I can understand exactly what she wants to communicate to me when she has something to say.
She is still weak on her right side, but she can walk around the house without aid. Dress herself in the mornings...mostly. She does need some help putting on her shoes, panties and bra. But if hell broke loose and we had to boogie in a hurry, she'd be able to make it to the car by herself while I packed up for a mad max like departure/adventure. :-) Albeit without a bra, panties and barefoot. But that's OK.
She is now only 15lbs overweight and still dropping.
Her cholesterol levels continue to improve.
Her BP is within normal levels.
Her A1C (diabetes measurement) has improved BIGLY and continues to do so every month.
She is now on only 3 prescriptions. My sisters and I might be adding one more to this in September so possibly 4 prescriptions starting next month, down from 23.
How did we do it?
Diet: My mom now only eats what I eat (and I don't eat fiat food).
I stopped administering all the prescriptions they (her doctors) had her taking prior to the stroke except for the ones they were administering to her in the hospital for the 2 weeks that she was in ER and ICU for the strokes.
For physical therapy she: opens the mail in the mornings, not using her mouth (yes, disgusting) but using both right and left hands. She has to walk when in the house..I used to carry her from room to room bc it was faster, but she is retired and I don't have a boss, so what's the rush?! Even if it takes 10 minutes to get from bedroom to the living room. We also slow dance for 5 minutes every evening after dinner. Last night we danced to some ray charles. And lastly but MOST important, my sister(s) call her every night before bed and asks her about her day.
For her depression, we give her "stuff" that needs to get done throughout the day that she can do while seated at the couch. I.e. fold and sort laundry, open and sort the mail, I take her (and the dogstr) with me everywhere I go. Make sure she goes outside and gets some sun every day (not hard to get where we are presently).
All that to say, considering we were making final arrangements back in March and now we are where we are with her progress, I'm a pretty grateful dude.
Fix the food and you fix two things:
1-America's obesity epidemic
2-America's out of control rising health care cost problem?

I sense you're coming at this note from a very specific point of view. You mention movies, neighborhoods, race, glorification, warriors, etc. All words from your replies.
I still posit that most if not all families have a gangster in their midst.
I'd be so bold as to say it's possible there is a drug dealer in most American families too.
I'm not suggesting you know who the drug dealer in your family is. And it's a good thing that you don't know who it is. Like gangsters, drugs can be bad for your neighborhood too. And bad for a race.

I just sent a screen shot of this thread to my neighbor and asked him what he thought.
He says when you get old enough your parents will let you know who the gangster in your family is. But that it's good you haven't needed them up to now. He was joking. I think.

I read that as; White and East Asian families are particularly adept at keeping their gang-related family members under wraps.

Just had a client ask if I ever take personal time off. Realized that about 70% of my clients think I'm a one-man show.
