It seems the builder of the Amazon abomination on Leikin in Barrhaven will disassemble the steel erected last summer and re-do it. The site was undergoing furious construction activity from last Jan to about Oct, activity dropped to almost nothing. Many millions worth of heavy equipment and materials slowly buried in the snow, with the west exit entirely unused all winter.
A bit of activity this week, a crane is visible.

Straight up lies in the CBC article about Canada's finances.
Canada does not "borrow cash" - it creates cash. There is no fundamental debt limit. No "debt wall" exists, and the "credit rating" for Canada in Canadian-dollar debt is meaningless. These are all weasel words to advocate for austerity, to put more wealth in the hands of the wealthy.
Canada's "debt" is all in Canadian dollars and the bondholders could be paid in full tomorrow.
So why do these bonds exist?

In the 1980 constitutional negotiations lead by Trudeau Sr. There was bargaining about trading the federal disallowance for the notwithstanding clause. It failed, NWC and disallowance went ahead.
Disallowance is not some ancient loophole that should never be used, it was retained exactly for this possibility, where provinces abuse the NWC to attack minority rights.
This is a petition calling for disallowance to be used to counter the NWC abuse that provs are using to attack trans people.

don't agree with this assumption that AI-generated music isn't copying/stealing from artists. It's just doing it at a scale and with a technique that makes it untraceable. The program is trained on a vast library of unlicensed, copyrighted music, arrangements, lyrics, voice characteristics.
Of course, human artists have been doing the same forever, which puts it in a strange place.

hard to manage without WAN, and I don't want cloud management anyway... that's asking for trouble. I'm not sure it could be setup without WiFi, they don't make the default IP obvious. And the default IP conflicts with the existing gateway, which is necessary to use WiFi.
Eventually I managed to change the IP and get into the local webui to manage it.
Not loving it so far.

After fiddling with a Mikrotik HexS for a while, I decided to get a Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Fiber, which actually has the processing guts to effectively route my 1.5Gbps service.
I wasn't successful getting the HexS to run the SFP ONT in 2.5G mode, but I think I would be eventually.
I expected the CGF would be easier, but I was wrong. It did manage to connect once to my ISP, but quickly dropped it. Generally no light on the SFP+ slot. The management approach is a mess.

There is already a pipeline from Edmonton to southern BC. What's the point of a northern route where nobody wants it?
If more capacity is needed, find a way expand the existing route. It's not like there are any customers further north.

So the cold call to my cell from the CRA about a week ago turned out to be legit.
Some days after I refused to conduct any tax business over the phone, a letter appeared in my account, with name and direct contact info of the agent.
Of course, I couldn't actually reply to it in the messaging portal. Nor could I file the necessary amendment, due to the in-progress status of the return.
My options were to phone and leave a weekend voicemail, or to send a fax.
Ugh!
