noticing high engagement posts tend to be the most bombastic. bombastic in terms of reactionary. anger and fear, they sell.
i know it's my own feed. who i follow. good people. but seeing the 2nd and 3rd strings of individuals... not really vibing.
nostr is so much more.

Finished writing my first sci-fi novella. I'm use to writing scripts. Never manuscripts. Working on this story idea for some time. Came up with it in 2019 as a short film. Never got passed the storyboard phase. Ran out of money. Didn't want the story to fade. Took this year to rethink and work the concept. Started writing aggressively couple months ago.
Now it's finished.
Shared it with beta readers for feedback.
This is my "second" book.
My first book "Get on Bitcoin" is done. On the last edit.
Two books this year.
Looking at gathering all my short stories from @npub1un9…6nvl and compiling them into an anthology.
That'd be three books.
It's been a creative year.

"Low Tide"
The coffee tastes burnt. Dad stirs his black coffee with a plastic spoon. His hands shake a little. Seventy years of working hands.
"How are the girls?"

A seagull lands on the window ledge. Fat from tourist scraps.

"She gets that honest."
We watch people walk the beach. Families. Couples. Kids building sandcastles that won't last the tide.
"How's retirement treating you?"
"Can't complain. Get to spend time with the kids. Help with homework."
"Lucky man. Forty-three and done."
His coffee sits untouched now. Getting cold.
"Market's been crazy lately."
"Yeah?"
"Down thirty percent this year. Everything I put away for forty years. Just... gone."
The seagull flies away. Smarter than us.
"Your mother keeps watching the news. Every day it's worse. Says maybe we should sell. Cut our losses."
"Timing the market's tough."

An old couple walks past. Moving slow but still moving.
"Your uncle says it'll come back. Says to buy more while it's cheap. Easy for him to say."
"He's got different circumstances."

Dad finally drinks his coffee. Makes a face. Cold and bitter.
"Your sister called yesterday."
"Yeah?"
"Needs money for the lawyer. Divorce is getting messy."
"Sorry to hear that."
"Can't say no to my kids. Even when they're forty-two."
His shoulders sag. Seventy years of carrying weight.
"How's the night shift?"
"Long. Double shifts most weeks."
"That's rough."
"Back's killing me. Feet hurt. Everything hurts."
The tide is going out. Leaving shells and debris on the sand.
"Mom's job situation?"
His face goes dark.
"They're shipping it overseas. AI's taking the rest. Forty years of experience. Means nothing now."
We sit in the quiet. Two men running out of safe ground.
"Dad?"
"Yeah?"
He looks at his hands. Working hands. Tired hands.
"Son, we can't retire."
The words hang between us like smoke. Everything we've been dancing around. Everything he's been trying not to say.
The market. The job. The sister. The uncle's bad advice. All of it leading here.
To this moment. This truth.
I want to fix it. Want to offer solutions. Want to give him some Bitcoin or a check.
But I don't.
The waitress brings the check. I reach for my wallet.
"I got it."
"Dad, let me—"
"I got it."
He counts out bills slowly. Leaves a decent tip.
Sometimes the best thing you can give someone is silence. Let them keep their dignity intact.

Talked to an old colleague today. We both been in "the industry" since 1999.
Said he tried reaching me through Facebook. I deleted my account in 2014. Said he tried to reach me via LinkedIn. I deleted that account in 2021.
We chatted for a bit. Catching up. Felt disconnected.
Reminded me of that one quote from The Sovereign Individual:
"The vag sits on the edge of the highway, broken, hungry. Overhead, flies a transcontinental plane filled with highly paid executives. The upper class has taken to the air, the lower class to the road, there is no longer any bond between them; they are two nations."
Not that I live an extravagant life... but the bonds that held us together are gone.
Conversation ended.
Nothing bad.
Just died.
I have nothing in common with my old friends anymore.

False.
The history of money, from seashells to silver, is to be a medium of exchange first. After a period of time, trust is built in the medium and is then stored because of the reputation built. That's the concept as promoted by Mises, Menger, Hayeck, and Rothbard. The reason its promoted this way is based off human action, psychology and individual preferences aligning over time.
But for some reason, Bitcoiners promote this idea entirely backwards. As if the concept is to never use the money, just to hoard it, thereby neutralizing its ability to be useful in trade. Why this is, I have no idea, but this SoV before MoE flies in the face of human nature and defies logic.
Maybe, its entirely possible, that its usefulness as a currency from 2009-2015 showed its desirability and trust that peopledecidesd it was better to store it for later. If that's the logic, I can subscribe to it and would agree. But with an adoption rate of 0.2% of the globe, and the only use for it is an asset backing the dollar as a means of inflating debt, with regression in adoption, I don't think so.
Should bitcoin be used as a currency in trade, as it was from 2009-2015, its value would be much high in USD, but also, there would be prices set in bitcoin, giving it legitimacy in exchange and then being a very strong store of value. What's currently promoted is a Speculation of Value.
I'm sorry the influencers have lied and promoted this false narrative.

When you, a person living on bitcoin for years say "medium of exchange" to be a store of value, everyone calls you a doomer/shitcoinet/fiat maxi with high time preference.
