Adding a rule is changing the rule set, by most people's meaning of the words. But there is a slight difference. I shall endeavor to be clearer in the future.
But my point stands, one side is trying to rush through a change in the consensus rule set by adding new rules.
My main problem is the rush. That reeks of scammers trying to make people make mistakes by acting emotionally. Also the "temporary" part is just not sound money.

I was under the impression that that is what Luke has said he wants to do? That they only need a few percent of miners to get this going. I will be honest here, I probably do not pay enough attention to all the details here.
Some of my objections to BIP110 is the "rush", and the proponents trying to incite panic and fear. And it also being "temporary", which to me sounds like the opposite of sound money.

No, that is not what will happen. All mined blocks become invalid. So all transactions in them become unmined. Unless they happen to be mined in the other chain too.
Perfect time for a a large double spend...

Spam controls through filtering efforts rely on the filtering rules to be updated regularly, as new circumventions are invented. Controlling the filters mean controlling the system.
Also Luke has a history of wanting to ban various things that he does not like, like gambling. He tried to sneak that in to the Gentoo Linux distro... He will go down that road again soon enough.

I am all for not trusting core devs automatically. Verify what they do!
But you certainly should not trust the Knots people either. They are being very underhanded about this situation.
Just the "this is super important and needs to be done now or it is the end of bitcoin" narrative they are running is so scammy. That is what phone scammers do to old people too, trying to stress them in to not paying actual attention to the issues.
Take a step back, look at the actual facts, and look at the track record of the people on either side. IMO some bad decisions were made by Core, but Tooooonnnnsss of red flags on the Knots side. But those are my opinions. Form your own!

I would love if there was an anti-spam measure that does not take away from decentralization and censorship-resistance. But I have yet to see one, apart from the fee-system that we already have in bitcoin. I have very low hopes of something better being invented. But I will keep my eyes peeled.

I don't really see a that solution is possible without sacrificing decentralization and/or uncensorablity. And that I am not willing to do. I am quite certain that fees are going up at some stage, and that will solve the problem. Bip110 is throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

But if Knots does not get more developers and a more structured development process then it most certainly signals a lack of seriousness!

But it is also super energy efficient. Features that do not contribute to survival are dropped pretty quickly. And since this is an almost universa humanl feature it must have contributed to our survival at some point.
