TIL different CR settings can co-exist. The others, obviously not.
The one thing I really think is foolish is everyone choosing their own radio settings. QLD has one setting, NSW has another and VIC another (actually most NSW nodes seem to be using VIC settings now). Using different radio settings is incredibly short-sighted because it GUARANTEES your mesh stops at the border.
It’s like we need to learn about railway gauges all over again.
Waiting for my gear to arrive, I’m on top of a ridge so I’ve opted for an 8dBi antenna on the repeater. With 21dBm TX that should get me right up near the 1W EIRP legal limit.

R5.0 Terra Lana is 190mm thick and thermal conductivity of 0.038W/m/K compared to Rockwool 5.0 at 210mm and 0.042W/m/K. TL is about 20% better efficiency for a given amount of material.
Definite marketing fluff to talk about wool being hypoallergenic if you’re gonna spray it with boric acid to stop moths though. Not that there’s anything wrong with boric acid (very very low toxicity) but it’s not hypoallergenic any more 😁

even when specifically searching for it I can only find websites talking about it, not selling it. I would have thought Oz would be an obvious place to sell it. Maybe it was NZ. Some sites say it’s better than rockwool others say lower performing and vulnerable to moths. I’m guessing rockwool is just superior overall, or maybe an availability thing (good wool would be made into clothing, and nobody’s trying to grow rougher cheaper grades for the insulation market).

pine trees are also an invasive species, their seeds propagate some distance away from the plantations (birds pooping and whatever) so rogue trees have to be felled more enthusiastically than they currently are. I’m certainly open to the idea of us growing pine for domestic use as long as it’s appropriately sited and well managed.
