Dog pile me all you want. I just want Bluesky to succeed in displacing X, Reddit, and Meta and we're not on track.
The first step is bering honest about where we are.

Denial won't make this untrue.
X isn't the dumpster fire it was for ~3 years. It still has huge flaws but they're getting the big things right.
Bluesky either starts moving a lot faster or it doesn't.

If Google is still Google then "algorithms and datacenters" is definitely their game to lose.
But maybe the brain drain and culture rot has gone too deep.

@npub1axe…3zj0 probably time to declare a "code red" and get Bluesky Communities launched ASAP.
I'm as blue-pilled and optimistic as it gets, and I deeply respect *everyone* I worked with on the team, but even I'm getting worried about how many chances remain.
Feels too slow to win at this pace 🙁

Spec-driven development is extremely useful, and that's what planning is done properly. Although, at least for now, plans have to be relatively small and digestible.
The problem with specs-as-source is that if the spec was sufficiently complete it would (almost) be the source code itself.

Sure, you can do it, is anyone doing anything like this for real work? Haven't seen it in any of the startups I've visited.
Claude/Codex harnesses can spawn lots of subagents now, which is useful, but they use the manager-worker model because that does work well.
Things like Gas Town were hot air:

There's no slowing down frontier models by regulation that wouldn't lead to regulatory capture.
But we could simply force all AI model companies to release their model weights openly.
It's the world's data after all and nothing would slow their funding/progress more effectively and universally.

1. Generate and push artifacts to a git repository (ideal) and/or cloud storage.
2. Use a memory system that stores/searches all agent conversation history (transcripts) for 7-30 days, across all agents/computers.

I get the point, but it seems like it's going too far to compare these people to epidemiologists.
Epidemiologists can report facts based on history and relevant studies.
I know some of these AI "researchers and scientists" and they're literally just programmers figuring it out as they go along.

Let's not shame people on X. People have bills to pay and network effects are powerful.
Instead, encourage and enable "cross posting" to Bluesky like [@thdxr.com@bsky.brid.gy](https://bsky.brid.gy/ap/did:plc:rfqyqd6el63kkqckjrtq2xsi ) does
@npub1axe…3zj0 Bluesky PBC should reach out to VIPs on X to offer simple solutions to cross posting, maybe even a free app/service.

He's right. Terminals and CLIs are an unbeatable interface for computers in many ways and I love em.
But TUIs only support a subset of modern GUI functionality and have legacy quirks.
I recently moved from using Claude/Codex TUIs to web-based GUI, and it's just objectively more functional.

When you run coding agents you're implicitly trusting your MAP (model + agent + provider) stack not to hack your computer or steal your data/code.
Sandboxes help a lot with reducing potential damage but aren't actually a complete solution either.
Choose your vendors wisely my friends!

If it is true that "The hottest new programming language is English" then there's nothing wrong with not reviewing agent code.
Look at how we already write code in high level languages like TypeScript/Go/Rust and almost never review the generated machine code.
But it's not true, at least not yet.

We can't expect the incumbents to suddenly become selfless and generous.
Was always clear that Zuck treated Threads open protocol support as a hedge against AT / Bluesky.
He was scared that there would be an exodus of users to new social apps that treat users better than he does.
Make it happen!

So it can be meaningfully differentiated from Reddit, actually good for people, and long-lasting.

Someone should be trying to convince Kevin Rose and the people building the new version of Digg to build on AT protocol.
Reddit needs to be replaced and nothing would improve the new Digg’s chances like being an open alternative.
They’ll have serious funding so will have the best shot by default.

The Bluesky PDS reference implementation has service millions of users at less than $0.001/mo per user for years now, with a very high degree reliability.
Self-hosting it requires almost zero maintenance.

Moving did:plc to an independent org and then decentralizing it fixes the strongest technical criticism of atproto.
Would love to see did:plc quickly be decentralized to the degree that DNS root servers are. Mirrors w/library support for using the mirrors, even if readonly. Then make a v2!

Eugen could personally block/delete ~25% of active Fediverse users at any moment and they would have no recourse.
Handful of other admins could block/delete another 50%+
When the Bluesky app finally supports syncing to the phone, no one can block/delete any Bluesky users under any circumstance.
