Finished Resident Evil Requiem. Not skeptical anymore they can pull off a RE1 Remake, Grace sections have all the signs and easily the strong point in the game, really well crafted. First 2/3 of the game for both characters and the switching is strong but goes "more RE" later. One of the best games.

l’m not sure this is very well known fact but early Playstation 1 console models had more issues with color banding that later ones, they HW patched in the later PS1 revisions so some games would look different depending on where you played it.

TIL that SSDs can lose data if left unplugged for long periods of time (only required to hold data up to 1 year), unlike HDDs which as long as the material holds it can take years.

A lot are asking "ok which alternatives?". Indeed there's nothing quite exactly like Discord and that's the scary part of them going public, they convinced tons of companies to ditch blogs/forums in favor of them. But because there's no exact replacement doesn't mean we should wait and see. Investigate! (some are in comments suggesting stuff) Remember Twitter and others stuff we had to leave when it was too late to slowly build momentum elsewhere. That's what I'm getting at.

I never played any Dragon Quest until now, but grabbed DQ1 remake and it’s genuinely fun to play. I guess it would be considered a simpler RPG by today’s standards of features, but surprisingly it’s what’s making it so captivating to me, easy to pick and play for a bit of time.

if you feel windows 11 is getting slower with each update, it might just be more and more native code getting replaced by Javascript in React (made by facebook). Sadly I think this might happen more often now. A lot of past kickstarter games had miscalculations or only asked a portion/final stretch and had to eventually get extra funding elsewhere/publishers. In current state of industry it’s very hard to get funding so if a KS goal isn’t enough that’s it.

I agree, the problem is that now there’s so many layers on top of layers that just optimizing one you have control makes the whole task almost impossible. And a lot of times the wrong tools are used for the project in hands, there’s rarely a one solution fits all.

Considering a big variable for the price of devices/gadgets, smartphones, smartwatches etc is the storage you pick, it should be mandatory to say how much the pre-installed OS consumes of that storage in the box. For example a 32GB device with an OS using 8GB means 25% is gone.

Captain Toad running on 3DS is impressive, and it plays really well too. Especially considering it’s rendering the game on both screens constantly. Nintendo was pulling magic tricks in this hardware

not as well know as Moore's Law, but Wirth's law states software is getting slower more rapidly than hardware is becoming faster. We might get new devices millions time faster than a decade ago but things are just as fast but using more resources and power. browsers always end up using all RAM.

Soul Reaver is 25 years old, such a good blend of just enough detail and polygons to have our brains fill the gaps, also that PS1 art-style, I think it aged really well; especially considering the limited hardware capabilities. Right is the new Remastered version.

Switch is great but I still think the 3DS is a cozier console to play, wish we’d get another dual screen handheld down the road.

Half-Life 2 is free to get until 18 November, was updated to fix a variety of things & plays on Steam Deck too. If you never played now’s the chance to see one of the best FPS ever made. I recommend starting by HL1 if you haven’t though for story, it’s current on sale < $1

if you're migrating from SDL2 to 3, notice that SDL_Init() now returns a bool, before == 0 would be success and now it's a failure. Didn't caught this right away because obviously David hasn't fully read the documentation xD https://wiki.libsdl.org/SDL3/SDL_Init
