1. I agree with having to show up to get changes made. I brought it up because I'm not saying that we shouldn't vote for Democrats because they suck, a lot of non-voters (or third-party voters) think that way.
2. I mean, for a start, by not calling them left wing. You can't vote people out, you can only vote people in, and the people running as Democrats are usually centrists. I literally can't tell them through voting because the people who represent my ideals aren't in the race.

It's a bit like that, sure, but it would take a long time of everyone showing up to vote to actually make a difference. I can't imagine the DNC as it exists now, allowing candidates more left wing than AOC or Omar. There's only so much voters can do with the system that exists, and that turns people off voting. Personally, I'm a strong proponent of compulsory voting. Don't just make it easier to vote, make it harder not to.

The Democrats are an organisation with a small (9 members) committee that determines the policies and direction of the party and a second, slightly larger (65 members) committee that runs things day-to-day. When was the last time you voted in a Democratic National Committee election? Or an Executive Committee one? They set the rules for how primaries and caucuses are run, they run the fundraisers. Average, everyday Americans get effectively zero say in the makeup of those committees.

Oh, absolutely, I'm definitely not suggesting voting for third party candidates, at least not at a federal level. There is *some* benefit, sometimes, to voting for a third party at a state level, and there's usually benefit to third party votes at a county and city level. As long as the system is plurality, Democrats will continue to get my endorsement, but I'll be damned if I let them off the hook for being centrists.

It makes it seem like someone having an opinion between the Democrats and Republicans is a reasonable position when, really, that just makes them a less extreme extremist. Democrats should be seen as the compromise, the centric position (even though they're more like slightly right-wing).

I mostly disagree. By any definition, the Democrats are conservative, they maintain the status quo, only doing the minimum to show that they're better than Republicans, and they *definitely* are, don't get me wrong. Now, it's entirely reasonable to argue that conservative and right-wing don't mean the same thing, but they usually do. The closest the US has to a left wing, the Green party, is a joke, something to make the Democrats' centric stance more reasonable.

I'm pretty sure the definition of "Class M" would necessitate it being almost the same as Earth, if it's too different then it'd be a different class. Maybe N or L. Or maybe there are subclasses, like M₂ or Mₕ₄ or something. I know they've made mention of planets that "barely qualify as Class M" and even a few that were definitely other classes but were still marginally habitable for humans. Wouldn't the shell theorem come into effect here? The further down it goes, the more mass will be exerting gravity upward as well as perpendicular to the direction of travel. The acceleration curve wouldn't be parabolic, and would have a much flatter profile near the center. Then again, I suppose the same is true for the horizontal and vertical acceleration of the orbiting object.

That's really cool, and I've been looking for something like that, but the cost is pretty rough. I think it's around 4-5 times what I paid for my hand grinder and I don't think it would provide 4-5 times the convenience. Perhaps 2½-3 times, at most. The real-world equivalent of this is a false vacuum and the slightly terrifying false vacuum decay. It's an important distinction as the only argument I've ever heard against compulsory voting is that it somehow impedes on an individual's rights. Even if they could somehow compel you not to invalidate your ballot, I don't see how it impedes anyone's rights. It's certainly less intrusive than jury duty (which people grumble about, but never actually suggest is a violation of rights), and *way* less than the US Selective Service System.

The mistake is considering the US to be akin to developed nations. It isn't. At one point it was developed, but over the last half-century or so, there's been a campaign to undevelop the country. Not just to hold back it's development, but to actively turn it back. The US is still more developed than undeveloped nations, but still doesn't really fit in with developing nations either because it's going backwards, it's in its own category, an undeveloping nation.

In all honesty, I don't think there really is a "bad" pentagram, it's just that, at some point, some Christians decided that the symbol was evil because it predated Christianity or something similar. Calling it bad is basically just bigotry wrapped in religious excuses.

That doesn't even work for Democrats, almost none of whom are actually progressive but are pretty definitively conservative. If that worked, we'd have had president Ocasio-Cortez long ago, instead she's labelled as "far left" rather than her actual political position as barely being moderately left. Bernie Sanders, another moderate leftist is likewise considered extreme.
