I'm pretty sure the definition of "Class M" would necessitate it being almost the same as Earth, if it's too different then it'd be a different class. Maybe N or L. Or maybe there are subclasses, like M₂ or Mₕ₄ or something. I know they've made mention of planets that "barely qualify as Class M" and even a few that were definitely other classes but were still marginally habitable for humans. Ok, just looked it up, the planet in Voyager's Muse (the Greek Thespian planet) is Class L.
