The thing about getting a haircut that I didn’t appreciate (since it’d been so long since I had short hair) is bedhead.
You don’t have to deal with bedhead when you have a ponytail, you just pull everything back and it just looks good.
Anyway I took some selfies the other day.

incidentally, the way you can tell new from old specs is whether their revision goes up by one, and the copyright date gets updated

I know someone who works for #GitLab and yesterday was the last day for anyone to be voluntarily dismissed.
They said (anecdotally) every person they know who took the offer is being asked to reconsider.
Sure sign of a well-executed strategy. 🥴

Oh no, you just summoned the timezone gods. Like Cthulhu, your best hope is to be eaten first.
(FYI if it's Americas-only I *think* you'll be OK? But `BST` and `CST` and such are not guaranteed-unique, there's overlap, which is why everything uses explicit UTC offsets or the long region names nowadays.)

Also only one of the conferences you pinged (pung?) provides streaming as an option; if you don’t have a way to view it online, you are missing out on a lot of immunocompromised folks, much less people that can’t physically make it for other reasons.
Hard to claim to be human-centric and also automatically exclude an entire class of humans from participating…

This is a fantastic read about distributed systems: https://hazelweakly.me/blog/pick-your-distributed-poison/
…but what's smacking me in the face right now is this bit:
"Reproducible and bootstrappable systems get a lot of love among neurodivergent people. For good reason: they’re very friendly to those with little working memory but vast amounts of working context”
I’m very bad at keeping things in my head but I'm very good at knowing where the thing I'm missing needs to be swapped in from.

The thing that makes it extra frustrating is watching everyone shit on Olympic Breaking and treat it like it was all a joke, even though they didn’t actually watch any of the actual competition. Every other athlete there did an *amazing* job and it was a delight.
We watched all the qualifiers and the finals, it was 99% riveting, with her performances being the only thing that didn’t fit in. (To be fair, hers was riveting in that “watching a car crash in realtime” kind of way.)
