@nprofile…7w5t @nprofile…al6u if you can get propane mixed in such a way it burns dirty, certain configurations of that will create mushroom clouds of arbitrary size. Also whatever footage exists from when there was ostensibly testing, those "clouds" were light in color.
I'd speculate that if you have enough force via fuel or pressure upward with this dirty of whatever is on fire; when the fire is choked off by smoke an area of low pressure occurs. need a camera fixed, stablized; not shitting

on the one hand, it's pretty easy to form a lobby. If you have lawyer and writer friends, they can help draft legislation that your new political action committee then lobbies for.

I had a boss when i was contract that set up my excel spreadsheet for timekeeping/invoicing and he put 1.5x overtime pay - contractors don't get OT that way... so the company eventually noticed and asked me about it and i said "i'm using manager's spreadsheet" and that was the end of it.

@nprofile…futk there's some good books because transformers are varied and interesting. Like, instead of paying >$50 for a balun for a vertical antenna (or a crappy offset dipole) you can just wind 10 meters of spare coax around a soda or bleach bottle (you know the size) and zip tie it in that form. it's a transformer, a balance to unbalanced transformer.
i have a PSU with the toroid in it like you have there. It is 5V DC at 10 amps or something stupid like that, and it's VPP ripple is like 2microvolts

starlink sats are ~525km up. There are ~9400 currently in orbit. they want ~4.5 times that many "eventually"
I always forget they're that far up, because of how far up HughesNet sats are (like 36000km up) - I also think that starlinks are only like 50 miles up, all the time >.<
anyhow, the awful fuels aren't used much. I wish we didn't need rockets, too.
I had a plan to get a balloon or drone and tether it above my house as a ptmp antenna platform. $!

and the pollution is on re-entry, apparently, and no one figured that out until recently. stuff like hydrogen peroxide should just have water vapor as exhaust. if they use h2o2 as oxidizer for something like kerosene (literal jet fuel), you do have CO2 as well as water vapor.
and i don't want to belabor this too much: they did a single day/night run. maybe they've gone longer now, whatever.
i've had starlink for nearly 3 years.

@nprofile…k3ke what happens if they collide? you'd need ~1400 drones for guaranteed full coverage (the way starlink is trying to build out). You need 1400 drones that require maintenance when they land (refuel, recharge, check props and joints, etc).
it's a cute idea but just put the stuff in space. it's real big out there.

@nprofile…z9f3 if you read the handbill/booklet that is at every place that provides licenses in exchange for cash, you should be ok. Some states have great laws, like in mine, if you're hunting, law enforcement is not allowed to harass or interfere. This is also true of fishing, so you can carry an AR and a fishing pole anywhere.
so just be cool and you'll never have a problem, most likely.

I have heard our dept of wildlife and fisheries ("game wardens") are real assholes. i do know where one lives, though.

@nprofile…kgrj i did test 6 cookwares and all six did not heat, but 3 in different ways. the aluminum or steel pans with magnetic bottoms would "click. click. click-click" in a spooky cycle. cast iron no noise no heat.
all six worked immediately after (boil 1 cup of water ~45 seconds,) on a 120VAC induction cooktop.

@nprofile…p0tr and as far as LLMs go, i've never had luck using one for doing an entire project from start to finish, *except* the 80B qwen, which took something like 4 hours to make a single-file 2048 clone that ran in any browser with js support.
I thought about going in to debt to get a blackwell or a threadripper/epyc with enough ram to load the 650B qwen model, but as i was hemming and hawing ram prices quintupled. lol.

@nprofile…p0tr isn't very big. Hilarious that images, video, and audio are relatively small models. I'm sure there's some massive merges now; however, most of the models i have are 4-8GB.
LLM models? 1TB and up (qwen is considered small at something like 800GB)
If a picture is worth a thousand words then the LLMs should be 4-8x larger, right?

there's some *thing* that will allow people with consumer cards (16-24GB VRAM) run much larger models than the RAM would suggest, like 120B parameter models. i think.
but i can't remember what it was because i haven't been taking ginkgo consistently.

@nprofile…5ne8 how fast? there's some wall thickness *or* cooling issues on the top layer on the small features, and i don't remember the texture on top being stripes, but it's been a real long time and i always used either white or black PLA/PETG so maybe it's just a weird shadow from the lines?

I worked on a server that was $35,000 in 2011(or thereabouts) that had 512GB of memory. I assume the CPUs, chassis, mainboard, backplane, yadda yadda were about $20,000 of that, leaving about $15,000 for 512GB in 2011.
it's $8,000 for 512GB of ram that's like 20x faster?
what's the issue?
