they're both gone, it's 2026 and they're both gone. i was never much connected to any of the people who raised me when i was little. dad most of them all, but there were holes even there. and then later. guess i just thought they'd live longer. surrounded by people whose parents were surviving into their seventies and eighties. thinking, oh, they're both tough, it'll be a while. but dad died at 54 and she might have made it to her late fifties, don't remember her exact age.

if you've gotten to the point where you don't know if you are awake or not or what's even happening check the time. that's the good thing about clocks, they should always work a certain way and break certain ways. check the time a couple times to make sure it is happening (or the clock is breaking) consistently. if it's not, brainfuckery is afoot. which could just be you're dreaming but still.

Yeah we're hoping they get cleared this weekend...the jet truck is broken and apparently around here it's The Jet Truck, so hopefully they can fix it fast lol. it's a problem because of the temps, but at least it's not everyone's interconnected sewer at once. That's where we (usually) start encountering the sorts of backup situations I'm already super frightened by, (our line is frozen thankfully it's not full) but for reasons that pretty much make sense to everyone at least.

back home on our own keyboard where random key combinations of keys that work don't work together for some reason. it's not like that's so horrible, it just messes with my workflow, a lot of which has to be automatic, or i lose too much time remembering what i'm doing.
it doesn't smell much worse here than it did when we left, but that water really is starting to get stagnant and it smells like things are rising into it through the pipes. is it technically safe to be here, breathing that or am i overreacting
(either way, there's way scarier than this to breathe, and some of you are you poor thers, we wish we could just come get you and put you up somewhere safe until you can go back, or, kick asses of everyone trying to kick yours)

did not sleep for more than 45 minutes last night. tried to go back to sleep. ended up choking on sinus drainage every time because life sucks. finally almost get to sleep. phone rings fifty million times whenever we try to fuck with it goes silent. only just now got it figured out. it's been six hours all this was going on...which implies that at least a little bit of sleep happened but doesn't feel like itmeow!

tbh the reason i don't have a job is partly the shittiness of the job market and the weirdness of a lot of the programs that are supposed to help disabled people get into the workforce. but the other part is who would keep everything from exploding if we weren't there all day ffs. in our case, we had several opportunities we turned down or failed to meet, because we were too busy trying to keep one world or another from melting, and that was our priority.

mother was going you gotta take three ibuprofen, you gotta get an icepack on that, we went we didn't think it was that serious? won't it puff up like a spider bite and fade in a few days? then us in the office, her: did you take your ibuprofen and get an icepack, let's go right now. us, bemused: huh yeah we forget most people tend to minor things like this if they can. that...probably says something about what we're used to.

so now neither of us can catch it, because we can't see it and she can't get stung by it and she can't find it anyway. we wanted to let it out, but we think we fucked it up when we swiped it because it is not flying anymore and we feel bad. it could take days to die in there, and that just seems like a sucky way to go, we have no clue what to do.

discovered there was a hornet in the house when it wandered across our foot and i swiped at it, thinking there was a hair drifting down our leg or something, and not expecting something alive. it stung us, of course. but we didn't even realize that happened until mom saw it and verified it's a hornet. before that, when we were looking, she tought it was a horsefly. we said, surprised that didn't hurt more than it did. i'd have never guessed that was a sting. mom however is deathly allergic, and we can't find it. so either the cat will find it and there will be battle, or it will leave, or some accident will happen because we're blind. so now we are in the office with her in case it gets her, because she has no epi pens, of course. the amusing part of all this was us tiptoeing back into our room for our phone, vape, keyboard and coffee, talking about it's not my territory now, it just got taken over.

old nexuses wonder how the fuck they even got old. like what do i do. we didn't expect to survive whatever bullshit, we were born into or we landed in or sometimes that we started. we age early, and then realize we're still facing an indeterminate number of years but now we're run down. when i was in my early twenties a friend of ours then going through her late thirties and early forties started talking to us about regret and we didn't understand, and thought it might just be something we'd understand in time, an age thing, it kind of was, we can see how we might be that kind of sad in a few years. but she didn't expect to get that old either. it's not like we lived extraordinary lives. we just didn't care what happened to them. lands you in some interesting situations that's for sure. someone said, about a very different situation, it made great stories but chaotic living. think that applies there too.

it's our cousin's wedding today, so of course our period started last night
ffs. being a nexus with any kind of reproduction focus when you have zero intention of reproducing yourself is so annoying sometimes lol.
our body will menstruate at the drop of a hat. sometimes when we want babies to happen somewhere--such as the highly embarrassing time when we were listening for the ostriches and did it three times in one month because the only noise they make you can hear from a distance is their mating call, so our body was just like, you suppose if we menstruate it will encourage the other creatures around to reproduce, and we were going omg no no that's not how this works and we are so tired of being biological and leaky help.
other times when babies might happen, regardless of whether we have a particular interest in it happening. like, if she gets pregnant we will adore her baby, but we haven't been excitedly anticipating her getting pregnant, it's just a thing that might happen and we know she wants a family in that way.

Monk and robot. Becky Chambers. It's two books. It healed parts of my soul. It's kind of sci fi? Alternate world, futuristic to this one, they've already had their industrial phase, and they had robots, and then a bunch of stuff went down and the humans and the robots live separately and no contact is allowed between them. Until the day that changes. This book is about that day, or more like, that year. But saying that is like sayign the world is a ball of rock.
