#HolosSocial 1.8.1 is available. It is a quick update that fixes accounts that were stuck on the key transfer screen after logging out. This should also fix the issue when uploading your custom emojis. You can now set your default visibility for messages in settings.

#HolosSocial 1.7.0 is available.
This version adds multi-device support. You can connect a phone, tablet and desktop to the same account. To add a new device, you scan a QR code from one you already use. This transfers your key and all your account data, encrypted end to end, so the relay never sees it in clear.
It also adds bio translation on profiles, actor lists for boost and like notifications, DM filtering, and several fixes.

Multi-device support is progressing well for #HolosSocial. The tricky part: each device runs its own #ActivityPub server, with its own local data, signing its own activities. Keeping several servers in sync both ways, without duplicating everything, without losing actions on the way, and without two of them handling the same activity at the same time, was the main problem to solve. It also had to stay reliable when a device goes offline for hours or days.

To clarify: the real shift Holos explores is identity portability. With your own domain, your account is no longer tied to a single instance or platform. You can move, switch, evolve, the identity stays yours.
Switching with one tap between video, photo or blogging is just cosmetic. But the fediverse allows it natively. That's what's missing today. You don't need a lookalike platform to tell you what kind of content you're allowed to see or share.

#HolosSocial isn't bringing something new to the #Fediverse, especially not to #ActivityPub. It builds on what exists, without mimicking any platform.
Every social network has been given its fediverse clone. Asking people to hold a separate account on each is taking the problem backwards.
If the fediverse keeps mirroring the GAFAM, it loses. The point was never to rebuild their world, but to offer something else: one identity across every content.
HolosSocial is simply a try. But we can do it.

#Holos 1.6.0 is available!
This release introduces desktop support with Electron on macOS and Linux. Syncs now use a sequenced bloom filter with WebSocket filtering that will avoid timeouts when starting the app.
The media viewer should be smoother, with instant thumbnails and a transition from the thumbnail position.

#Holos 1.5.6 is available.
This release focuses on UI polish. On #iOS, the pull to refresh spinner is now visible in timelines, and compose menus no longer render behind the modal. On #Android, the emoji picker stays above the keyboard.
It also fixes posts not showing up on the web while online.

A new version of #Holos has been released (1.5.5).
It introduces support for "web+ap://" links (fedilinks), so profiles and posts can now be opened directly in Holos. The sync experience is also smoother with less UI freezing, and post deletion is more reliable: posts are kept locally until all remote instances confirm removal, with automatic retry on failure.

When trying to follow a #Holos account from another account (Mastodon, Pleroma, etc.), seeing a pending request is normal even if the account is not locked. The server runs on the device and the relay cannot sign activities on its behalf, so the "Accept" is automatically sent once the app is back online.

#Holos 1.1.1 has been published. You can now use your root domain as your identity with a simple TXT DNS record. If you have only one user, a static JSON file is enough.

#Holos 1.1.0 has been released.
Account recovery is now available: optionally back up your account data with a passphrase and restore it after a reinstall (strongly recommended if you have no cloud backup configured).
The relay stores your backup but cannot read it, it is encrypted on your device before upload (zero-knowledge).

#Holos 1.0.0 is available! With this release, Holos moves from release candidate to production. This version adds a reverse timeline option to display posts oldest-first.
A lot of improvements have also been made to the relay, especially around Bloom filter performance, that are not always reflected in app changelogs.

Next #Holos release will use Bloom filters (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom_filter) for sync. The relay filters activities, only sending those from accounts you follow and from the local timeline.
The filter is sent each sync and never stored. The relay still has no knowledge of your followings.
Test: 26 followings, 32k pending activities filtered down to a hundred (99.7% reduction).
The public timeline goes away as a result. #HolosDiscover will replace it with content tailored to your interests.

The reply isn't deleted, just unlinked from the original thread. It still exists on the author's instance. Nothing prevents them from writing their own post with a link to the original message. This is just about keeping a respectful conversation space under the author's post.

Totally agree! This is exactly what #GoToSocial's interaction policies already handle with Accept/Reject for replies. The missing piece is retroactive rejection. When a reply was auto-accepted by the policy and you later block the author, the server should send a Reject on the original Create activity to unlink it. Extending their framework would be the cleanest path.

User feedback shows database management shouldn't rely on manual intervention. The app must proactively monitor thresholds before they become critical and crash the server. Our recovery system works, followers, following, own posts, and DMs are preserved. Next priority: implement fully automated, transparent database management with smart cleanup policies to prevent issues before they occur and maintain optimal performance.

We fixed the crash in notifications that occurred with messages from GoToSocial. We also added a crash report system (opt-in, disabled by default). Nothing is sent automatically, but you can share the crash code by copy/pasting it. Search results are also fixed, the cache was overwriting webfinger responses for accounts. We're currently working on automatic DB restoration if it gets corrupted. Thanks for your feedback! #Holos

We are processing a refactoring to increase independence: removing the internal API used for interactions between users on the same relay. We initially built this for faster communication between users on the same relay, but it creates dependency. We chose to prioritize portability over optimization. All interactions will now go through standard ActivityPub. Switching relays becomes seamless and #Holos stays true to its data sovereignty principles.

#Holos currently limits posts to 4 media attachments, 4 poll options, and disallows polls with media to match Mastodon's UI. However, these restrictions don't exist in ActivityPub itself. We'll be removing these artificial limits soon. Other servers (Pleroma, Akkoma, Misskey) already support more media, more poll options, and polls with attachments. There's no technical reason to restrict what the protocol explicitly allows.

The source code will be published on #Codeberg under AGPL-3.0 (previous choice was GPL) - both the relay server (network service) and the mobile apps (Android/iOS). Thanks for pushing us to get the licensing right from the start.
