Lastly, Europol waste NO OPPORTUNITY to advance and hammer its anti-encryption narrative home 🎴
:mycomputer: E2EE apps are pointed out as tools "for organising actions, promoting ideologies, and mobilising supporters".
The criminalisation of privacy-enhancing tools (in judicial cases like the French 8 December case or in the media) has been a very efficient tactic by law enforcement to demand encryption backdoors or what the ProtectEU strategy calls "lawful and effective access to data"...

Meanwhile the report pathologises and individualises fascism and far-right ideologies: "the profiles of the right-wing violent extremists identified in the online environment were of young males, often minors, frequently suffering from mental health problems (...) personal struggles such as familial dysfunction, problematic interactions, social exclusion & other socio-economic challenges".
Which is completely masking the reality of rising far-right policies & political forces today in Europe 😤

But they also describe "propaganda & recruitment" tactics such as "posters, stickers, books, & magazines" and "solidarity events such as concerts, cultural gatherings, dinners, & book fairs". 🤡 LOL
Eventually, Europol has to admit that the vast majority of left-wing 'terrorists' target "property, belonging primarily to the industrial sector and private businesses".

What is a bit (*euphemism*) scary for the left-wing and anarchist section:
The causes cited are anti-war, anti-fascism, anti-colonialism, anti-capitalism, resistance to state repression, criticism of the judiciary and prison system, support for the Palestinian cause, advocacy for environmental & animal rights – legitimate causes supported by a large number of civil society movements ✊ .
😵 Which is slightly stigmatising and puzzling in a “Terrorism” report

📆 And it's that time of the year again!
👮 Europol, the EU's police cooperation agency released its new "TESAT" report, summarising all the info received from national police about terrorist "trends" in Europe.
Every year, Europol pretends (with this report full of graphs and statistics) to objectively describe the characteristics and modus operandi of "right-wing" vs "left-wing and anarchist" terrorists.
But the difference in framing is striking :blobPikaFacepaw:
