Inkscape Bug
Hello #Inkscape fellas...
With version 1.4.4 I hit a very annoying bug now every time I try to undo Inkscape crashes. It seems a recurring issues, are you aware about any workaround? Like saving in a format and reopening in SVG, and so on... That could mitigate this issue? Thanks... 🙏

Good point, can't be exist this double-standard...
If you refuse AI you should move away from Linux as well, not just Debian...
I am pretty sure that NetBSD and OpenBSD have No-AI policy, so go ahead and be coherent with yourself!

And I do everything with AI tools including the design, but for me this is work not any artistic expression.

I have a small business and with Claude I can do alone what I used do to in previous jobs and marketing teams where I was only the senior designer.
What requires days and team effort I do now in a couple of hours.
Honestly AI won't fail at all, will fail who invested a lot of money expecting to receive a shitload of money back.

It looks like your making a lot of confusion...
You stated that using AI is equivalent to cheating (in art), and I simply replied that cheating in art exist way more before the introduction of AI/LLM generative models.
And here I think there is another misconception, if these models would use a neural architecture perhaps they would be really originals, but modern models are built on [em]transformers[/em] that is a different technology, and it is the true revolution behind their success.

I wasn't specifically talking about art...
And we have such shitty pieces of art even without AI.
I usually have a lot principles but here is the my stance about art and AI:
If you care about the art perhaps you want desire to improve your skills and learn more about it.
If care more about being an artist, you use all the means to get there, including AI. Even without AI, we had plenty of ghost-writers, ghost-compositors, ghost-artists, sculptures that paid 3D artist to develop their sketches and then used mechanical machine work marble or printing their model.

The reality is that at a certain point you need knobs and sliders, or numerical control, the prompt interface might be good to draft an idea, but it can't give you control. Eventually they will accept to make GenAI tools that produce parametric output, otherwise any professional will gradually stop to use them after the initial curiosity.

Theoretically with color profiles and rendering intent you should be able to convert colors from a space to another consistently.
Anyway the point is not looking for accurate colors but to approximate how the colors will be printed in CMYK.

I used all the time the AdobeRGB profile, but I imported the artwork in Scribus as SVG vector.
Maybe during this step the colors were disregarded...
The point is, unless you don't have a full-gamut monitor, and a colorimeter to calibrate it, you can't really rely on what you watch on screen.
That is why I check the CYMK separation, it doesn't matter if then is in RGB, but it does matter if with the same conditions when I move an artwork from a software to another, the colors, no matter what color space is used, produce always the same values.

@Martin Owens @Inkscape @GIMP
I like start drafting with Inkscape, I usually create the colors in CMYK, even though those will be converted in RGB.
Thus I had several problem to setting up properly the PDF crop box and bleed box with Inkscape, and this is a well known limitation, and I had to redesign it in Scribus.
The RGB colors imported from Inkscape were giving a different CMYK value, I set them with the initial CMYK value and the RGB changed, this not good.
Than even Scribus was giving me headaches, some color overlays even though visualized in PDF weren't printed on the big canon (I work for a midsize Printshop).
Then I colorized the pictures in Gimp and once again the RGB values were diffent, eventually I had to import the PDF and use the eyedropper to get the color tints I needed.
Finally, without fancy transparency the cover was printed and the colors came out pretty correct.
The whole time I used AdobeRGB and SwopCoated as destination, with colorimetric relative as rendering intent.
These variation of colors from a software to another were a big pain in the neck, hope in the future this can be improved.
🙏

@GIMP @Inkscape & #scribus
At a certain point you need to meet each all together and create a common ground regarding colors separation: even using the same color profile, same rendering intent, and same profiles destination I got different color separation across the three software.
I see at the colors value to guessing more or less how the color will be printed even though any RIP works differently.
Among the three I trust more Scribus, it is usually correct, actually I got a job and the cover was initially designed in Inkscape, I was watching at the separation and it wasn't right (even though I knew it would be exported in RGB); I can't tell you why it is just experience. Thus I redesigned it in Scribus and it was printed very well, and the colors came out as I expected.
For the future it is important that no matter what FLOSS design tool a person is using, the colors separation must be a constant, this is eventually the secret ingredient of Adobe suite...
Thanks... 🙏

This is my reccomendation, try to move your workflow to a floss equivalent that runs also on Windows, there are pretty good software out there like Darktable.
If you are able to achieve it you're good to go.
If you fail and you computer is powerful enough you may consider to virtualize window and keep your photos on the host (Linux).
You can run LR on the virtualmachine until you find a way to ditch LR definetely.
Also I recommend to use a conservative/stable distro.

The rise of Gimp 3
Big kudos to the #Gimp team!
I've just tested out the brand new version 3 and the most wanted feature, non-destructive-editig, just blew my mind!
I haven't realized that now, everything that is based on GEGL is editable, it is just amazing, this goes beyond what I expected as non-destructive-editing.
There are still plenty of room for improvements though , I hope in the future they will add a layer mask for each effect and the opacity channel to determine the amount of the intensity.
Nevertheless this result by itself it is just amazing and superior to other commercials solution even in its infantry!
This will boost my workflow cause now I can modify colors on my images without degrading the original ones and exporting the working file as jpeg-xl, this is already a pro level!
