3/5 I lay there for a moment, side-by-side with the trunk, bewildered about what had just happened and hoping that I wasn't hurt (and I wasn't). But, as I tried to get up-- I couldn't! The snow was so deep that my hands sank straight down into the snow without touching the ground. This reminded me of people who fall into "spruce traps", having a hard time getting out. Fortunately, I had the fallen tree next to me that extended back up to the trail. (CONT)
