Also I am actually guilty of using the bike lan when I am driving the cat van, one of our op-shops, in the middle of town, is usually parked out both sides (even though one side is a loading zone) so I have to put it in the narrow driveway, which basically means sitting in the bike lane to let traffic clear so I can swing out and get into it. Good news is, basically nobody uses that bike lane because the bigger road on the block over is like 3x better to ride on in every aspect despite not having a bike lane. Our councellors are fucking retarded.

This is the problem. I don't care if people occupy space they're not supposed to as long as whoever it's reserved for isn't there, and they can guarantee won't be there while they're not looking.
Also in Japan I run behind bikes because people will part to make room for them. Apparently I can run 24km/h so it's doable (though that was measured like 8 years ago or something, so no idea if I can still do it).
