Part of the issue is that consumerism makes passive, and is focused on 'wants'; which are never fulfilled.
Part of the issue is that simple and easy are convoluted in society. The former takes effort, education and talent. The latter often makes things more complex.
That in turn is driven by the fact that the goal has become more, instead of why, how, what are our needs?
