I have to agree here. You can add wind to the off-grid SHTF energy solution.
Anyone who has made moonshine will tell you that ethanol takes a long time to make- way too long to justify the small amount you get from it. Not worth the effort IMHO. Biodiesel can be made from waste grease but requires considerable effort by way of a chemical reaction called transesterification, which involves mixing the oil with methanol and a catalyst like sodium hydroxide. Doesn't take as much time as distilling ethanol, but takes time nonetheless.
Don't get me wrong- both should be done, but the quickest & easiest energy captures are done by way of solar (PV & heat), wind and hydro, the availability of which obviously depend on the terrain & prevailing weather at your location.
