It wasn’t “allowed” to happen, they wanted in. That was the whole point in the post WW2 order. The US protects the trade routes, and then everyone is able to trade without needing to defend their own supply chains.
They then use those Dollars obtained by sending stuff to the US, to buy other things they need.
You need to see the historical context. By the time they joined the world in economic trade, it was clear economic activity was the future for them.
Ironically, isolating yourself from the world was seen as a flaw, not a plus.
We have just witnessed the beginning of the end for that era, and that is a far bigger problem for the world.
