It's not bad to recontextualize a story in the process of adaptation. In fact, the process of adaptation *requires* some form of recontextualization, & this is where Nolan's film collapses under its own weight.

Its themes require a context in which to be explored which Nolan never provides. Odysseus should either be a man of his culture or a man in conflict with his culture, but somehow he straddles a line.
